All oil paints yellow within a year, water based is the way forward. And no Dulux crap lol so many great foreign paints available nowadays 👍🏻

I love this paint, easy to apply when thinned. I put 10 to 1 white spirit, but 10 to 2, seemed decent too..but maybe too thin ? Used a 3 inch Wooster brush.
Initally sanded down old gloss. Then rolled on 2 thin coats of primer zinser 123. Followed by 2 coats of this, looks great. I bought wilco water based satin....awful

Dulux solvents paints are great, the high gloss finish , for those clients that want it are well impressed with it. I prefer the satin finish myself. Few of my clients like the eggshell. Got to say the Dulux ones are all good to work with and leave a great finish. I do use diamond ( their WB product ) satinwood a lot. Also very good.

I used water based gloss in my property, still whiter than white 2 years on. I like Johnstone’s Aqua Satinwood. Lovely stuff. Check out my doors in this clip, tell me it’s not as high gloss as solvent….. ua-cam.com/video/Vq2Yo5id_wE/v-deo.html

@@MrSmid888 this is my point entirely, acrylic stays white for years, try valspar v 700 premium, fabulous finish, done correctly with premium brushes 90% of my customers prefer eggshell, correct preparation brush marks are none existent,

I'm painting new pre primed doors with Dulux diamond trade satin (water based). How many undercoats would you apply and also how many satinwoods? Thanks. Great videos.

Whack a bit of Owatrol in it Mark , flows on a treat , levels out lovely and doesn't affect coverage like easing with white spirit .

Yet another inspirational video, thank you. I’ve learned such a lot to help with my diy painting from you 😁. At the risk of showing my complete ignorance what are these “green doors” that you refer to? Are they doors previously painted green or is a pro’s term for something else? Thanks again, keep up with the videos 😁

Use your roller on door inner mouldings that way you only have to cut in the bottom and top frame corner.

Hello Candleman -greetings from Northern Ireland-I’ve been subscribed to your channel for quite a while, and picked up many good tips, as an amateur, (I’m a retired spark ⚡️) to make my home painting a whole lot easier..
Off topic, but have you any tips for re repainting, an open tread mahogany staircase, with a Matt finish.
    Best regards

Great video, as usual. If I’m re-painting a previously painted door (an old door that was previously painted 5-10 years ago), and I primed it three weeks ago but procrastinated about top-coating it, do I need to re-prime it before painting the top coat? In other words, how long can you we wait between undercoat and top coat? Thanks, Mate.

With a door that old you will want an undercoat and 2 top coats for best finish

    • @jaycee8689
      @jaycee8689 2 роки тому

Hopefully by now you've got it all figured out!
If not, try this extremely special combination:
      Undercoat followed by a topcoat?
Otherwise, just get a pro and stop pretending you have more money than you have.
      BOOM.

What do you think of the prices of Dulux trade these days? Ridiculous if you ask me, also Akzo Nobel own them now? Wasn't it ICI? Personally i'm a big fan of MacPherson paint but we all have our own preferences.

That saying makes me laugh. I was saying that out loud working on an old two story Victorian house a week ago. No maintenance done for over 60 years. 4 days prep rendering and plastering in one room and then saying if you can piss you can paint over and over.Yeah right.

Candyman you will very soon have to ditch oil based paint as it is slowly being fazed out, I've been using acrylic for about 5 years now, Dulux trade , I never thought I would stop using oil based, drying faster, no smell, you know it makes sense,
