I am trying to understand this aspect. I am an EV driver and I have infinite variation of regen depending on how far I lift my right foot. Why would you need additional adjustments?
I have had two different LEAF model years,2017 and 2019 all with ePedal- one pedal driving and I get what you are saying. Not necessary for me with that feature. I know someone with a Kia Niro EV that found out on slicker streets they had to adjust the regen to a lighter setting to keep from sliding on slick pavement. Jack' in the video used only the regen adjustments to go down a steep mountain grade to slow him down as needed for the changing grades and curves in the mountain road. More of a challenge really.@@MrAdopado
I first played the "nerdy regen paddle game" a few years ago in the e-Niro when coming down from the Ardeche....about 30 minutes of descending, some very steep downhill and twisty bits but never needed to touch the brakes once. My 2019 e-Niro may look a bit 'old hat' now but with 92,000 km on the clock it been faultless so far.. setting up regen braking with paddles seems such a logical thing to do, not sure I could move now to an EV that didn't have it. This EV9 monster is way outside of what a retired couple like us need, not to mention way outside our budget but it looks to be a tour de force for Kia that will win a lot of new customers.

Its pretty amazing how Kia could go from a budget brand to the leading ev-producer so fast. Compare ev6 to any of the Teslas, ev6 is superior in almost every aspect. The just make terrific and gorgeous cars these days.
Is it me or did I hear bespoke architecture mentioned a couple of times there ? Maybe trying to flog this brick to the Chelsea tractor brigade a little over enthusiastically. I love the EV6 sticking a sofa inside a block of flats doesn't excite me at all.😳
@15 minutes, it looks like the back seat goes forward to give space to enter the back row but just as it reaches its front position, it backed up like 10cm making the entry hard. what was that?
15:24 Model X falcon wing doors solve this. So many people wrongly think they're just a "look at me" feature. But they're actually quit practical and improve so many things about a large SUV.
I'm not a fan of some of Kia's design choices, but I love the form factor. At the moment, my daily driver here in the U.S. is a Mustang Mach-E, but we've kept our Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (PHEV) minivan for those times we need to convey 5 large adults or a lot of cargo. My plan is that, when my Mach-E's lease ends in 2026, I'll probably return it, retire the minivan, and replace them both with a single, 7-seater EV like this (or more probably the coming Ford entry into the segment).
Yea. But you can easily find the WLTP range if you Google it I guess. And then the actual real word range just depends on your driving style and the conditions.. judging from the looks it does not look very aerodynamic though…
@alexandersaksvoll5373 you sure can but I'm not watching review of the car just to then have to go and look for such basic most important information that should be in the video.
And.. Only 1 point against ICE cars, which is temporary. Also not testing anything related to "go anywhere" bit. Stick to asphalt where this belongs, which is permanent.
I think it should be this way ideally. Maybe a footnote, but it’s not like ICE car reviews bang on about how many miles you get in a tank. EV range is a bit of a distraction, most of them are pretty similar so more interesting to focus on the rest of the car.
I sold my Gen 3 F-150 Raptor for this. Feels nice to be driving a compact run-about again 😅 I will say though, big EV's like this are what is needed to get silly people like me over to electric vehicles. I can tow with it (over shorter distances), I can use it for camping, me and the missus can easily sleep in the back of it, and I just love how it looks.
Would it be bad if the wheel just vibrates instead of beeping? I'm thinking how my PlayStation duel controller use to vibrate when something in the game needed to draw my intention about danger.
Good timing for the video, just got my first add for it yesterday here in Nova Scotia the two wheel drive starting ar $59,995 Canadian dollars eh! Nice bus.
Well done for not mentioning it being a tesla killer. Ironically, it probably is in the UK. We no longer have an RHD X, this is a lot cheaper, more spacious, has good charging, extra utility with V2L etc. I may well get one when it's been out a year or two.
What a great show. I really enjoyed that, thank you. Can’t believe (well I can actually) that in the Netherlands they are soon to ban diesel and petrol boats. Meanwhile in the UK……
I deff have to agree with you with the 3 level regen had a niro love it. also seeing your review vs other has made me feel the price of the vehical is actually worth it
~300km of range, perhaps less on pure highway driving and even less in colder temps. Not sure if you'd want to put up with the frequent charging on an extended road trip!
@@Boomflame82 my bladder needs to stop more frequently than once every 240 ish miles. Also, I just took an 1800 mile road trip in a Niro EV; this would be a straight upgrade. Edit: also it's 300 miles, not km.
Just found out this probably won’t make it to the US and I’m devastated. This thing would dominate the American EV market with its massive size and low price
It is so sad, for a Spanish, to see in the introduction , how some unpolite people have spoiled the traffic signal that shows the altitude road doing some vandalic graffitis on it, On the other hand, a great video of a big and great car , congratulations from Spain.
Can't wait to get mine in a couple of months. And I promise to you all, the first thing I'll do is to remove all the plastics around the frunk and see what's there. It's ridiculous my Tesla X frunk is 180 liters and KIA only managed to squeeze mere 52 (in AWD models) liters.
Soon after starting the video it was clear to me that the EV9 is not the kind of car I would ever buy. But I kept watching because this is probably the funniest and most entertaining car review I've seen on Fully Charged so far. Way to go!
I guess "basically no competition whatsoever" means don't worry about the Rivian R1S that will already have been out for months(?year) by the time this is actually available. Maybe you're referring to what's available in the EU/UK?
Rather than focusing on eye-sensors, there should be a law, mandating that all climate controls, and basic media controls, MUST be possible to operate, by hand, whilst wearing a blindfold. Any car that fails the blindfold-test, as I call it, shouldn't be allowed on public roads.
Surpasses. The X is useless for an active lifestyle because it won't take a roof rack, and you can't fold the second row seats flat. We bought a Model Y to replace our Santa Fe XL and it mostly works, but the kids will outgrow its third row pretty quickly and we've had to downsize our camping gear. This would have been perfect had it come out a year ago.
FYI: Car & Driver list EST ranges of AWD dual motor 304 miles with 99.8kwh battery and rear drive models with 76.1kwh battery at 230 miles. This is US market btw. Europe may get different battery setups, IDK 😮😊 I know we don't get the swivel seat option here, US regulations prevent it.
Giggle all you like about those flimsy cup holders, but I've had them in my almost 5-year old Niro EV and that is the most versatile cup holder design I've ever seen in a car. If Kia gets one thing right - it's that they understand the average consumer.
Adjustable regen?? Just like my VW e-Golf!! It's half the fun of driving around the outskirts of town. I think I missed it but was there any mention of how much one o these is gonna cost?? I can see this thing going over big here in North America.

TBH, I had a difficult time focusing on the review because I was distracted by that excellent coat Jack was wearing. I want that coat! :D
This thing looks like it’d be a smash hit with us, your friends across the pond. Ultimate soccer mom EV right here.
That’s a proper wow!
Its pretty amazing how Kia could go from a budget brand to the leading ev-producer so fast. Compare ev6 to any of the Teslas, ev6 is superior in almost every aspect. The just make terrific and gorgeous cars these days.
Thank you.
When going downhill like down a mountain, i use the ACC (cruise control) to adjust regen, a lot simpler
Minivans with sliding doors are better. Kia needs an EV Carnival.
I prefer the look of this over the explorer.
Hey Jack. Love your work 👍
THANKS FOR FINALLY EASING UP ON THE LOUD MUSIC.
Looks good and great production of the video.
What I think it's outrageous is that you can make entire video about electric car without mentioning what is the range even once.
Scared.
Nice bus.
For UK readers - that converts to just over £35500 (but I bet it is nearer £50k here)
What about the seating distribution? Was it 2-2-3 (w front-2 mid- 3 back)?
Well done for not mentioning it being a tesla killer. Ironically, it probably is in the UK. We no longer have an RHD X, this is a lot cheaper, more spacious, has good charging, extra utility with V2L etc. I may well get one when it's been out a year or two.
Who would ever want a Tesla when you could have this?
Would this be fine on UK roads, I get the impression the UK roads aren't that spacious either or am I mistaken?
Often times is one word too many.
Seems like a nice fella.
What a great show. I really enjoyed that, thank you. Can’t believe (well I can actually) that in the Netherlands they are soon to ban diesel and petrol boats. Meanwhile in the UK……
I drove the new Kona a few weeks ago. That also beeped at me whenever I ever so slightly got over the speed limit. It was infuriating.
Kia kills the belated Cybertruck. Prettier, better and is actually in production. 😂❤
The competitor to the EV9 would be the Tesla Model X, not a pickup!
Leave those funny edits in - love it
America likes this vehicle already.
I deff have to agree with you with the 3 level regen had a niro love it. also seeing your review vs other has made me feel the price of the vehical is actually worth it
lovely car, lovely editing and lovely channel! just subbed :)
I would love to rent one of these for a road trip. Definitely too big to be a daily driver for me.
@@andrewdyjach7305 I was going by the caption in the video of 3.3 km/kwh
I wouldn't need a car this size but I love the look of it
It’s amazing how fast you fill up a car when you have 2 kids, a dog and their stuff.
Just found out this probably won’t make it to the US and I’m devastated. This thing would dominate the American EV market with its massive size and low price
When is this coming out? I'm getting it if the power charging time and mileage consumption is reasonable.
It is so sad, for a Spanish, to see in the introduction , how some unpolite people have spoiled the traffic signal that shows the altitude road doing some vandalic graffitis on it,
On the other hand, a great video of a big and great car , congratulations from Spain.
Much better priced and look than the CyberJoke.
😀 Great review mate
Soon after starting the video it was clear to me that the EV9 is not the kind of car I would ever buy. But I kept watching because this is probably the funniest and most entertaining car review I've seen on Fully Charged so far. Way to go!
I guess "basically no competition whatsoever" means don't worry about the Rivian R1S that will already have been out for months(?year) by the time this is actually available. Maybe you're referring to what's available in the EU/UK?
Have one now for a month it is great goes over 330 miles on a 100% charge
Volvo EM90, Lucid Gravity, KIA EV9 everyone popping up with the 7 seater at once.
Rather than focusing on eye-sensors, there should be a law, mandating that all climate controls, and basic media controls, MUST be possible to operate, by hand, whilst wearing a blindfold. Any car that fails the blindfold-test, as I call it, shouldn't be allowed on public roads.
Ahoy Jack! Nice to see you again this soon! I bet this car rivals even the Model X!
@@KevinT3141Thanks for the insight, very valuable!
FYI:
Car & Driver list EST ranges of AWD dual motor 304 miles with 99.8kwh battery and rear drive models with 76.1kwh battery at 230 miles. This is US market btw. Europe may get different battery setups, IDK 😮😊
I know we don't get the swivel seat option here, US regulations prevent it.
Great video, did I miss price and range?
A bit of maths using the video figures says 270ish miles range, although the Kia site says up-to 349...
£64k - £78k apparently
Not told. The big battery (100 kWh) has EPA 304 miles; 489 km. Price ranges from 56k to 75k USD.
Giggle all you like about those flimsy cup holders, but I've had them in my almost 5-year old Niro EV and that is the most versatile cup holder design I've ever seen in a car. If Kia gets one thing right - it's that they understand the average consumer.
fair play!
Adjustable regen?? Just like my VW e-Golf!! It's half the fun of driving around the outskirts of town. I think I missed it but was there any mention of how much one o these is gonna cost??
I can see this thing going over big here in North America.
