- Zelda has its fair share of spooky character, but in Breath of the Wild, there's one that stands out among the rest... Kilton. There's no telling what this wannabe Twili might be HIDING. What do you think? What is Kilton's dark secret?

He is evil he link
Not sure if you noticed this, but you can also never see Kilton appear, he doesn't come and go like Beedle. I stared at his lurelin spot from day time into night time, he only pops in once you turn the camera away and then look back. You can write this off as a programming oversight, or explain it with him using magic to come and go. Perhaps he teleports, or perhaps he hangs out in a *dimmer* realm during the day, and then pops out, right into place, at night.
Why were the stats all blanked out during the cooking segment? Aside from the Hearty +3 surf and turf dish, I don't know what any of them do.
Maybe he is making his own monster the NEW enemy in botw 2, or other villan dark like or the wizard from link 2 the past
@@Divine_Moon I think so
I think Kilton doesn't even understand he's handling evil. He seems to be more Hagridlike than anything. I get the impression he thinks monsters aren't evil.
He's definitely the Hagrid of LoZ
rusted corvid.butterfly agree
Not quite. If you do his medallion quests, he seems to reluctantly admit that putting monsters down is necessary because of the threat they pose.
Medallion quest?
After beating Ganon talk to him and select the “about monsters..” text option. Figure it out from there.
His name says it all. He had to “kill” a “ton” of monsters to get where he is today.
I’ll see myself out...
Nahh your jokes are welcome 🤣 no matter how terrible they are xD You should hear the ones my ex writer came up with for our top 10 weapons lmao.
He was created and written. That's probably literally the inspiration for the name. Try it everywhere. Even our own names often do it but every written and produced show or publication had to be imagined so names more often than not are based on the traits of the character because they were never actually born or grew up.
So he’s helping Link... right?
He's not actually harming anyone though. The Hylians are just being rumour spreading biddies, really.
They don't like black people unless they are hidden under ground in boxes.... If one is selling the things those people fear... Clearly hes to be feared also.
@@thcrtn He doesn't look human. He looks like a monster. How did you get from that to "he's a black person"?
@@mischarowe I think that he meant by "Gray-skined people"
@@viniciusmonado8205 I'll wait for him to correct me.
@@adminbob_ "Black people" is pretty specific. Besides, Kilton's skin isn't black. It's a dark shade of grey.
Headcannon: Kilton is Tingles descendent and is just going through that 'phase'
That would be awesome if that were the case.
@@MSOGameShow could be possible, though. Both have balloons, exaggerated head features and an obsession with something magical as well as sounding somewhat similar. Genetics 😂
That's much more likely
That would mean Tingle found himself a lady and had kids. I don’t need that rule 34 in my head
And one is obsessed with fairies while the other is obsessed with monsters!
Kilton is still less creepy than Tingle
I agree with this 👀
Wait! Look at the shape of kiltons head. Now look at tingles hood. Both are slightly crazy men who fly with balloons and sell things. Think about it.
Tingle Tingle Kooloo-limpah!
Tingle is a nice guy
Nah Tingle is just sexy, not creepy.
I feel like Kilton represents both Tingle and the Happy Mask Salesman. He's like a creepy version of the two combined.
Middle aged man obsessed with creatures (Tingle) + Kooky character who sells masks (HMS) = Kilton
Exactly my thoughts! Him and his shop are also the almost the shape shape and size of the happy mask salesman and his bag.
So they had a child?

Overly happy to provide background vocals for your remix!
He's actually not truly human anymore and lived up to centuries thus why the recipe for the monster cake of 100 years ago includes the Monster Extracts he invented.
He might even be the Minister of 100 years ago that enjoyed the cake.
Nonoctoro ;) He’s listed in creating a champion as a Hylian. Good theory tho :) it was considered for this video too.
@@RMFHGaming I don't believe in the books, Nintendo Dream Magazine wrote this one, that's why there are developer boxes, the rest is made up by them.
Interesting i love zelda people
@@RMFHGaming I added "anymore" because it was confusing.
I think that Kilton is the Minister of 100 years ago that got addicted to the Monster Extract he invented, consumming it everyday changed him.
Nonoctoro Ohhh 😲 now that’s something I didn’t even think about! Follow up? Maybe?
I'll be honest, I'm super protective of this dude. Yeah, he's messed around with some dark magic and it's probably what messed his body up, but also he has never given any indication of genuine malevolence. Kilton might have a personality disorder or two, and he absolutely has an off color hobby, but overall what he does benefits not only Link but the rest of the remnants of Hyrule as well. Where do monster parts come from? Dead monsters, buddy. Dude's going out there and being an absolute lad, cleaning up monsters so he can make cool shit and learn more about them. Can we really blame him? All the rumors that were spread about Kilton were "that he's creepy" and "he makes weird stuff". All of which is both pointlessly true and completely harmless. Heck, he's not even using dark magic for power or anything like the Twili did, or out of malice like Ganon does, he's just super into what makes monsters tick! What if he had an interest in what made Hylians or animals tick?? That would be /way/ worse! I legitimately see nothing wrong or too hair-raising with what he's doing, but maybe that's just me idk.
Anyway, great video! I love my boy Kilton getting attention. (I just defend him to the friggin grave because I love him and pretty much everyone in Akala craps on him for reasons I don't consider to be crap worthy)
kilton is king now
„Why does everyone hate him“
It’s actually just because he looks different that’s it stop bullying him furthermore by trying to validate Hylians claims
Yes! Thank you! Kilton isn't doing anything wrong. If you think about it, playing around with monster parts is exactly what anyone who has ever made an elixir does. If anything, he's helping the Hylians by getting rid of he monsters. I mean, he has to kill them to get monster parts.
Pearlstar CLKC true. He‘s the guy everyone hates just because he says flesh instead of meat and isn’t brainwashed
Charles Mahoney he isn’t looking creepy. That’s so rude. Maybe his face is disfigured. That’s so ableistic
And can we talk about the fact that he sells stuff to help you blend with monsters? A lot of these Hylians could just go around freely without danger but nooooooo they have to bully the little guy! WHAT DID HE EVER DO TO YOU?!?
@@liswatching3241 To be honest, he's more rational about it than most people. His passion for his research is just so strong. Reminds me of my fellow autistic people. Their passion for what they love to do. The logic behind their thinking, even if it seems weird. Most of them don't even like the thought of hurting someone for their own gain and are less judgemental than the average person. Might be blunt about the things you do, but are also easier to discuss certain topics with that "normal" people usually are too.... pussy to talk about.
We don't even have to fear that the person we mention certain weird stuff to will go in that direction, because we aren't that easy to sway away from our morals. You almost have to be god tier for someone like them to change their morals. Maybe not god tier, but someone special atleast.
Sorry, he is just one of many characters that reminds me a little of myself and fellow friends and old classmates. I'm glad to see some characters in the game who are really trying to find him to see what he is up to. Those people are among the people I respect the most, for being open-minded and not being deluded by assumptions. Only going by assumptions make you look stupid, right? ^_^
Kilton is helpful and people can't really deny that anymore
I'm surprised he didn't mention his blue arms and the claws he has on his hands
Ray Revolta Those are just a costume and I figured they stood out as it was.. Though, it’s possible he uses them to protect his hands from touching direct darkness. Good point!
@@RMFHGaming It would be awesome if it was skinned Lizalfos arms lol
Ray Revolta That would be awesome! Hope we see him in BOTW 2
He didn't mention any details at all, really
Billy Coda I mentioned plenty. I felt his look was self explanatory.
He's a zonai. He is nothing like any other race in hyrule. Also the ancient tapestry features figures that look strikingly like kilton. Master works refers to them as "astonished figures" as if it is not known what they were. Not to mention kilton uses dark magic, like the zonai.
The Zonai use spirit energy, or just magic. It's more likely that Kilton got his unnatural look from all the malice he exposes himself to.
Nah he's a humpty dumpty
@@elitegamer9310 No, that is not true, just a theory proposed in this video, all anybody has is theories at the moment so I believe people should use correct language and not classify what they say as facts.
I feel like the Zonai are linked more to majoras mask as the tribe that made the mask was also war like, and did a lot of hexing which is a form of magic. There's also a place in the Faron (where the zonai were last said to be) region that has a lot of references to majoras mask like the weird heart shaped stone masks hanging from the ceiling.
"I'm Stallord!" Wow, Stallord, you look like you've lost lots of weight! ...as well as about ninety-five feet.
Birdie Senpai 🤣
MoRe CaLciUm
star lord chris pratt??
Naw not him. The boss from Twilight Princess.
This dude was probably the happy mask salesman that fell victim to one of those masks
this could be true. Ive also suspected a connection with the morbid poe salesman, but im not over confident to that theory. Seems like the horned statue has more to do with that Poe guy than kilton. ive also have a theory about him being a great fairy but that ones kinda touch and go. I see a resemblance between his balloon and the fairies bud. Also, the fairies refuse to be seen until they get their rupees. I wonder if theres something about the rupees that keeps them presentable. Like maybe they degrade into imps over time or something. Kilton is unique in that he doesnt want a rupee anywhere near him.
I think Kilton is gradually turning into a Demon because of all the Malice he surrounds himself with. Look at him, he probably can't come out during the day anymore, I wonder if he'll turn evil in the next game.
He’s just obsessed with monsters, plus... he also KILLS them to study their fangs, guts, horns, or other stuff
My personal theory is that Kilton is Breath of the Wild's equivalent of the Happy Mask Salesman from Majora's Mask. They are both creepy but inconsequential merchants in their first appearances, giving the player some extra content and side quests to dabble in (trading in monster parts and masks, respectively). However, the Happy Mask Salesman transpires to be less than happy and inconsequential in the direct sequel to his game. I believe Kilton could go the same route in Breath of the Wild 2, especially since we know for a fact that the sequel will be darker than its predecessor. Here's hoping...
This is a great thought! I would absolutely love to see Kilton play a bigger role in BOTW 2 with its darker theming, and if the parallels are as clear as they seem to be I'm /really/ gonna get excited.
Anoif Orceater that would be cool, hope botw 2 releases 2020
Omg I thought that too.
On behalf of literally everyone, thanks for saying the dialogue so that we can listen to this in the background and have it still make sense.
Using monster extract:
"I eat evil magic for breakfast!"
When I first saw him he legit scared me
But he’s nice
Monster Extract is made from monsters
Zelda monsters contain, or are birthed from, Malice.
Monster Extract is Malice.
You are literally ingesting a corruptive, semi-sentient substance.
I'm reminded of that one episode of The Pirates of Dark Water where that one witch/alchemist lady was all about drinking the Dark Water and all the main characters were understandably like "w-why tho"
BUT IT TASTES GOOD
@@germanyvalentine7598 imagine if you could just drink it by itself and you just said mmmmmmmmm delicious
Germany Valentine so does meth
Personally I think malice feels more like grape jam
I now it can sound strange, but the First time you go in the Hyrule castle in Wind Waker there's a painting of the king and near of him there's Kilton. Hope you're gonna read my comment and check It out
I’ll have to look into it! I believe I have a save file near the castle. Thanks for the heads up on this :)
@@RMFHGaming thank you for reading It! Hope you will tell me if you find it
Awesome!
@@RMFHGaming did you find It?
That’s Zuko, he becomes one of tetras pirates
Okay wait.
You mentioned how Kilton resembles the Twili.
The Twili are descendants of the Interlopers, right? The Interlopers are represented by Dark Link in Twilight Princess...
What if Kilton is an Interloper/Twili? It’d explain his appearance, how he can’t appear in light, and his use of magic.
Dang nice observation
Kilton, who is he?
*zooms deeply on face*
I think one of the biggest dangers of Kilton is that his interest in monsters gives him motivation to keep calamity Gannon around rather than destroy him.
Well even after Ganon dies, monsters will still exist. Ganon didn't CREATE monsters, he just has a lot of control over them.
So let me get this straight: Because he dabbles with a passionate hobby dealing with anything having to do with monsters, it’s considered not only not normal, but evil too?
Let’s just backtrack all the way back to the beginning of the game: Link wakes up from a mechanized bed chamber that has an unknown blue substance that has kept Link asleep and healing him for 100 years, made by a precursor tribe of Sheikah, who dabbled in a passionate hobby of crafting weapons and armor made from giant beasts and machines with the power to crush the entire land single-handily? Am I the only one who doesn’t see that as not normal? 🤔
The difference is that monsters actually ARE horribly evil, so messing with them is dangerous.
The Shiekah just built technology. Not normal, but not evil either.
@@hanasong8013 yiga are sheikah
@@leomiller4440
And what does that have to do with anything? Yiga aren't monsters, they're humans.
My theory is that kilton is the true form of the happy mask salesman without a hylian mask on
Brownie points!!! My comment goes a lil bit into similar things

HE IS SECRETLY RMFH IN DISGUISE
GameOver Jesse ;)
Strangely enough, that one Miiverse interview with the Happy Mask Salesman a few years back, he referenced himself appearing in a new game. This happened shortly before BOTW was announced, if I recall (or somewhere around that time). I wonder if he’s related to-or was intended to be-the Happy Mask Salesman in some capacity?
Whoa dude, wasn’t expecting you to see this a year later-let alone a measly 20 minutes after I posted it. That’s dedication right there.
Love the mermaid man and barnacle boy reference “ EVIIIILLLLL” 😂😂😂
Kilton is so sweet. He’s one of my favorite characters to talk to
This lines up pretty well with my personal theory on him. But more specifically in mine, his physical appearance and deranged personality can be blamed on poisoning from excessive consumption of monster extract. He's not simply interested in monsters as a cute hobby, but literally obsessed because he has been chemically driven insane by using monster extract in too many recipes and experiments.
Does no one think Kilton actually IS a monster?
Yes
No he is so cute ❤
I NEED a spinoff game that talks about Kilton, Beedle, and Tingle’s lives
What if he's secretly the dude that's mentioned in the castle? Y'know the monster cake guy
[Egg Squad: 'Leader'] Katsuk̶i̶ Bakug̶o̶u̶ It’s possible... Supposedly the royal families minister LOVED the cake. Maybe he’s one of the few survivors from the actual castle and that’s why he ended up the way he did. Follow up video?
I watched a video that explained the chancellors love for monster cake.
In one of the previous games the chancellor of the king was a corrupt man, also mentioned on the recipe which says it could cause malicious thoughts.
The cake also has two horns, which the chancellor also had.
This is not based on my own research and I believe was talked about by Zeltik.
_I feel like no one else notices his connections to Chancellor Cole._
I think the creepiest thing about Kilton is that he's a bioscientist of botw monsters and depending on the direction his research takes could land the fate of hyrule in a much worse state.
To be fair, Link also uses monster parts. You use them for elixirs.
Chabi can be found in other places in addition to Akkala. One such place is the Tabantha region.
Something else that is interesting is that Kilton, like the rest of the human NPCs, is afraid of monsters. One day I decided to bring him a Stalmoblin head as a present. He cowered in fear!
I like how his shop sign reads, "Savage Swaps."
for some reason, i concluded that he was just a friendly monster and not a hylian at all.
He might be
In Master Works, they specify that he is in fact a Hylian.
So... when does he hunts monsters? Not at night or daylight... does he cross to twilight?
Ana Luisa i think he just collects monster parts from people so he can experiment on them without being in daylight.
It’s a reference... I think?
From what I can see about Kilton is that the Devs are setting him up to be a new villain because of how weird he is and for all the rejection he receives
Aww but he is just an odd fellow with odd interests. He shouldn't be shunned just for curiosity. I would argue he is doing good work, even necessary work.
The only thing Kilton is hiding is some dirty monster magazines under his cash register
Personally, I ADORE Kilton. I've even made it a point not to sell monster parts for rupees so I can get more cool monster stuff from him. And I think his eccentric nature reminds me of myself. I just love him. Great video dude👍
^^^ this this this
you honestly think that guy was a Hylian? he looks half Bokoblin to me, maybe that's why he's so spooky, his mom did the nasty with some freaky beasties and she popped out a grey baby.
It’s stated in creating a champion that he’s Hylian. Lol I like your theory tho xD seems legit
I didn't realized how complex he is until this video; I don't think he is truly evil not he has lost his essence as as a Hylian or Human due his tampering with dark magic.
I like the idea he could be a descendent of Tingle or perhaps he's the Happy Mask Salesman, cursed by a mask that turned him into a short, grey little man with unnaturally long life and obsessed with monsters.
He LOVES monsters, he has disguises than mean that he can get REAL close... well I don't think I need say any more.
Kilton is my favorite character in BoTW. I actually go to him just to hear him “talk.” I find him cute and hilarious.
That answered zero questions.
When kilton converts toenails into mops
🤣😂 dark magic
The happy mask salesman really went down the wrong path didnt he
This is weird when i sold things to kilton th bloodmoon would rise more
What a video dude! Just got round to properly watching it and gotta say you did a phenomenal job on this video! Very interesting and in depth into Kilton, a cool af character in Breath of The Wild!
imagine if Kilton is actually last member of the zonai tribe and he his getting rupees and collecting monster parts, researching them to find a way to use the blood moon to revive the zonai tribe
I always thought Kilton was kinda cute like weird for sure, but I liked him
So he is evil because he cooks monsters and is bald.
A hylian? i thought kilton was a weird looking goron that probably had much less resistence to heat.
I mean we(link) are out here straight up taking monster body parts and organs to make potions, upgrade our armor, or using them as weapons so I cant really judge kilton.
Also he's not the happy mask salesman in possession of a evil god in a mask so thats also in his favor
For me is Kilton the best side character in botw. he is making with so much love and detail.
That "I LOVE MONSTERS MORE THAN YOU... ... Uh, sorry, I did it again..." has some serious smegol/gollem energy
Kilton's killing monsters for souls to bargain with the horned statue to become a monster himself
I just assumed Kilton was a friendly monster who wants to open his own shop but can only come out at night, both things that unfortunately scare people. Then he made up rumors himself to lure in adventurers, aiming to make them potential customers but it half backfired on him.
I like mine more.
It's confirmed in the Master Works that he's a Hylian.
this was an excellently crafted video! i never thought kilton was all that creepy but you proved me wrong! there's all sorts of mysteries to this game we must still need to explore
My own theory is that Kilton is the product of an unfortunate union between a bokoblin and a Hylian.
Good theory, but gross mental image haha XD
The spookiest thing every was when a group of Stals appeared out of a gerudo sandstorm.
What if Kilton if working with ganon, hes buying monster parts to recreate the monsters?
Kilton is probably dampe's decendant, a seemingly scary guy that is misunderstood
Is this a good theory
Leave my boy Killton alone! He out here giving you quality product and store credit and you're gonna do him like this
I think you may have overlooked something, many people in Hylrue use monster parts as ingredients, such as the dye shop, and even most merchants buy monster parts, not to mention that the great fairies even use the parts to enchant your gear
I briefly touch on that in the video.
This is tingles and The Mask salesman’s lovechild.
When you trade the monster parts for mon.......
Where does the parts go?!?!??!
He wants monsters to by from him as you can see when he is turned around and you talk to him.
you know drag has truly hit the public consciousness when someone uses the phrase “spill the tea” in a Zelda theory video
I read Sayge in the comments and I have one theory: He's connected with twilight princess, because he got the dots under they eye like aigtha, thelma and fanadi.
Is kilton like The Happy Mask Salesman and we’re gonna see and know more about him in the sequel
All this time I thought Kilton was a actual monster but now i know
I think Kilton is Gannon's little brother from another mother. Never quite good at being evil, he now chops up his big brother's work and makes things to help those who oppose him.
So, according to this theory, the Hylian royal family has been using dark magic for generations to make cake...
Well I mean that’s a fact lol..... Notw the dark magic part but, they’ve at least been using monster parts to make extract and then used that to make cakes.
What if Kilton is just misunderstood?
The rumors are by people who would know even less about him than the player.
"He'll spill the tea" lmao! Good video, interesting points!
kilton stays underground during the day!
I wonder two things; first is he the possible culmination of Tingles family and the Happy Mask Salesmen’s family intermarrying over generations?
Second where does he live? There’s no indication of what he calls home and he covers a lot of ground over Hyrule. Is it possible he’s a poltergeist?
Your channel is awesome! You deserve way more suscribers
ur videos are SO helpful keep it up pls!!! new sub!
Thank you! Welcome to the team fellow Hoodlum :)
Dude, you're over thinking this. He's basically Hagrid.
Imagine going to college to learn culinary only to call your professor and chef “Starlord”
Guess before the video: In the official book of BotW art, it shows that wizzrobes have a humanoid figure underneath with grey skin. He knows so much about monsters because he used to be one.
If you think that Breath of the Wild has the creepy Zelda element, then just wait until the sequel comes out.
Nah you know whats scary. When a Lynel catches you creeping.
What if Kilton is a hylian and monster hybrid? Remember Maggie from Wind Waker? How she fell in love with a Bokoblin and they wrote to each other
I was half expecting you to use a clip of Mermaid Man screaming “EEEVIIIIIIIIIIIILLLL!!!” somewhere in this video.😆
I almost did 🤣
Great video, I’m never looking at Kilton the same way again, that is one haunting theory that is bound to give me nightmares at some point! Either way, Breath of the Wild is awesome and the best Zelda game ever, right up there with Ocarina of Time.
hes a great fairy. his flower bud has been repurposed into a balloon. Thats why the giant underwater fairy flowers grow at skull lake. The fairies dont want to be seen until they get enough rupees. It can be assumed that something about rupees that empowers fairies to help you and make them presentable. Hes the only the character thats 100 percent against using rupees even the slightest bit. If you think this is far fetched, do remember the horse fairy. Not all great faires are the same. and some can get quite scary. Kilton i believe has rejected the script and now follows his own passion. I believe hes degraded to be more troll like appearance as time went on. While great faires love rupees, jewelry and young men, he loves monsters, their stuff that drops, and how unconventional items that need no enhancements that are not very interesting. did i just blow your mind?
11:19 you did a very good Augustus St. Cloud "evil" right there
This also reminded me of the happy mask salesman in majora’s mask
Kilton is goofy & looks like he would be a BBQ dad if he wasn't obsessed with monsters.
That was a good video dude. I really found it entertaining! Surprised you don’t have way more subs.
Thank you! Seriously means a lot reading that. With hard work and determination they will come :) I have faith.
I feel like Kilton is actually Astor in disguise. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it, it would explain why Kilton is so fascinated with monsters and dark magic. Astor was known for using dark magic and summoning monsters. Also, Kilton is an enigma, and we know very little about Astor’s past. Since his business depends on monster parts, I’m pretty sure it would not be in his best interest for Calamity Ganon, the source of all monsters, to be vanquished. That’s bad for his business. Besides, we’ve never seen monsters or Yiga Clan members attack him. Also, since Astor is proficient in dark magic, it’s possible that he could’ve used it to prolong his lifespan and disguise himself so as to keep a low profile, and thus, in BOTW2, Kilton’s true identity will be revealed
What mod did you use for the beginning which made the castle so dark?
