Truly an amazing plugin! loving it so far. The only ting that could make the plugin better is an update to the reverb and delay where you can change the speed of it like from 1/2 to 1/4 to 1/8 to 1/16 and even adding unique ones as well that would be amazing, and judging how fined tuned Xvox made this plugin I know they can easily pull this off! 🤘 UPDATE: they actually did! lol added that to the Delay
@nuroaudio I want to congratulate Dean Palya and the Nuro Audio team for the work behind what is THE definitive processor for vocals. I've gone back into some of my projects with very carefully put together, expansive vocal chains, just to set up an Xvox, A/B test everything, and Xvox out does it all in sound and efficiency. So well done, Nuro Audio, your intentions are being met and I can't wait to see more from you. A shout out to the man, Dean Payla, every bit of content I've seen from him, past & present has always been nothing but absolute gold. This dude is the embodiment of the joy of producing and making music. Can't wait for more from you guys, I believe in this team. 😊
I love how quickly you can change the compression flavor while maintaining the same level of compression. Reminds me of CLA vocals but you can see more of what's going on here while still not being technical
Great mixing tutorial. I’m happy to have this plugin for about 3 weeks or so and it’s become my favorite plugin concerning vocals. I love it. Super song and super vocals to demonstrate vocal mixing. Of course I‘m not the expert as you are (far away from being it as a hobby/amateur musician) and I couldn’t always hear those subtle differences between the before and after comparisons, but although I would never come to these great results I could learn a lot. Thanks a lot for this video! 👍🏻💪🏻👏🏻🙏🏻 (My UA-cam name has always been „GAD“, but I don‘t know why it‘s „vewilli“ now, although I didn’t change it. Don’t know what happened)
Very well done tutorial. Thank you. I greatly appreciated your professional ability and quality in this presentation. The "tone" mode of the Xvox is quite cool.
That's awesome. As future expansions/updates it would be cool to see effects tailored for different genres. I'm pretty sure you can achieve it by tweaking and understanding the genres but having starting points and easy effects helps with the workflow.
Great point! There are 100+ pro presets included in Xvox, categorized by genre which give great starting points as you mentioned, we'll cover it in the next tutorial!
It's such a secret weapon! Really speeds up the workflow. I would love for a future update if there was a 'group feature' to control multiple instances at once - instead of grouping doubles and harms etc, which can get a bit funky at times with heavy compression. It would also be cool if there was a ducking feature for the space fx :)
Honestly one of the best vocal and overall mixing videos i have ever watched. You have a great way of teaching. Telling us what you're listening for and then the a/b comparison and not talking over the listening portion of that comparison....Bravo sir and thank you! Learned a ton of what to listen for and how to achieve it. Buying the plug-in and Liked and subbed. Bangin lil track btw!
Great plugin and even better mixing session! I learned a lot, so thank you so much! I definitely have to grab this plugin! In the future, could you do one mixing a melodic rap vocal with heavy pitch correction on the vocals?
Thank you for this video! It has given me new inspiration knowing that I don't have to break my brain trying to decide what plugins to use. XVOX doesn't seem intimidating at all. I am definitely going to purchase it!
This is an amazing tool that gets you to a really good sound, really fast. Im looking forward to more advanced features being introduced. great Job Nuro Audio
Imagine if Nuro release the dynamic Opto, Fet, VCA and Tube as separate compressors with full control! Then a fully fledged independent Nuro eq!! Nuro, you know want to!!!
I agree. Just like the Autotune vocal compressor. Separate compressor options to controlled vocals. A horizontal switch in the EQ spectrum to find and take out other frequencies, and that's it for me.
I have the plugin, and I just have a bus with a separate instance of Xvox, with only the reverb soloed, so it just acts like a reverb plugin. Then add a compressor afterwards and sidechain it to the vocal like you would normally
İm testing & wow sounds amazing. İn the future update will the reverb get a sidechain ducking compressor like a one nob with attenuation metre please. 🙏
do you realize the fet and tube give instant warmth, the thing i love most about using the plugin is the ease of use i got great result on the fly no manual or anything its a nice plugin
I've been producing for a long time, but I've only been working with vocals for the past few years. To me, this plugin matches the industry standard at an alarming rate considering a lot of them are using analog compressors. I'll be using this from now on as it saves me from the headache of going through 20 compressors and deciding which ones are the best. Sorry Waves XD I wouldn't be surprised if some professionals start using this when they don't have access to the analog gear.
Such an amazing Tutorial. Just a quick question: Did you have to first Pitch Correct all the Vocal tracks before this process with Pitch Flex? or not? just curious thanks
So glad you found it useful! Most tracks have at least a little tuning, this one included. The vocalist was very solid, we just did some slight Flex Pitch edits on a few spots, then used the DAWs automatic tuner to give it some overall tightening. We then printed the vocals with only this tuning effect added - this is a good habit as it makes things much smoother and more predictable down the line!
Phenomenal runthrough of the process. Out of curiosity, what did the input chain for these vocals look like? I am never happy with how my vocals show up in my DAW.
Just bus your trax into mix bus - and use like maybe 2 or 3 different Xvox's its a great plug-in though I have it and even use it for hardcore screamers
Really cool plug in. Has anyone used this live? My main audio applications are with live sound. Would this work with something like Live Professor for live vocals?
They should add a small artificial intelligence that first sees the voice that you are going to mix and from there there are some suggestions and that way it would be a little easier. For example, before analyzing, I ask you what I specifically generate, or what kind of effects you want.
United Plugins Voxessor has that feature for dynamics and tone but that vocal channel strip plugin is lacking any effects and EQ as it is geared for speech.
I notice you didn't EQ the 2 track to create space for the vocals in a similar way to the Trackspacer plugin (reduce some frequencies where the vocals come through the most), but the vocals still sit really nicely within the 2 track! I don't quite understand why most videos I've seen mixing vocals over 2 tracks do this but yours still sounds amazing. Is that just not necessary a lot of the time? Or had the 2 track already been mixed with these specific vocals in mind? (I'd love to purchase beats off people and mix in my own vocals even half as good as this video)
This plugin does sound very good, but I’m having some trouble getting the vocals to sit in the pocket without the help of some other plugins, mainly because of the limited control over EQ section. Could you add maybe an “advanced mode” switch to the EQ, with more control over the bands, or even a fully parametric mode with 5 bands?
Happy to help! If you’re having trouble getting vocals to sit in the pocket in a mix, more EQ on the vocal is usually not the best fix and can lead to further issues down the line. The best way to fix it is usually to make the pocket bigger by opening up some space in the rest of your mix for the vocals to sit in. 99.9% of the time, this will lead to much better results! Send us your mix if you’d like and we can take a listen and provide some more specific thoughts: support@nuroaudio.com
XVox is a very sounding good plugin and efficient in terms of workflow but please,in next versions, make more visible imput and output knob! It's to small to look at and take away from my inspiration!
Thanks for the feedback! You can make the GUI larger if you like by clicking on the Xvox logo in the top left of the plugin, then along the top of the screen you can choose a larger GUI size in case that helps!
Great vid. Would like to see a Dancehall mix with the xvox plug in. I use xvox as well. It cleans up the vocal very nice but sometimes I find that the vocal upfront sounding presence is reduced so I have to use other plugins ex JJP to tweak the sound a bit. There is also no gate built in so I add that to my aux channel as well
Great idea for a Dancehall mix video! One trick to try for controlling how much presence you want within Xvox is to adjust the Mid slider, especially on the Modern and Clear Tone Modes. The Modern Mid slider is a brighter presence, while the Clear Mid Slider is a bit rounder and more focused.
Question, is this the only plug-in that you’re using in your processing chain or have these mochas men process before using this plug-in and if I wanted to do some additional E queuing do I put the EQ in front of the plug-in or under the plug-in? I know auto tune will go before it, so I wanted to use the EQ to clean up the vocal. I will have to put it in front of the desk, plug it in correct
Great question! In this video, Xvox is the only plugin used on the vocal processing, but you can see that we are using some stock Logic plugins on the 2TRK Beat and the Mixbus. The only processing done to the vocal before the mix was some light tuning, otherwise it is completely raw and as it was recorded using a Shure SM7b. You are thinking along the right terms - if you have a specific problem area in your recording (for example, a lot of low frequency rumble, a harsh resonance in the singer's voice, etc.) - it's best to take care of that using an EQ before the rest of your chain. Sometimes this is referred to as "Corrective EQ". Be careful not to do too much EQ during the "Corrective EQ" stage, you only want to apply whatever is necessary to fix any issues from the recording process to bring it back to a balanced, natural sounding vocal.
