Lyrics:
What's it all about, Austin?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Austin?
Are we meant to take more than we give?
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Austin
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel
And if life belongs only to the strong, Austin
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Austin
I know there's something much more
Something even non-believers can believe in
I believe in love, Austin
Without true love we just exist, Austin
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Austin
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Austin
Austin
OMG! I thought that Susanna's version of "The Look of Love" in the first Austin Powers movie was so beautiful that it rivaled Dusty Springfield's original version.
Now she just surpassed herself. "What's It All About, Alfie" or "Austin" as this is the case, is a song with a more complex melody to follow, and therefore more complex to interpret.
Susanna not only nailed it, she again in my opinion, surpassed Cilla Black's original. Even though Cilla's version has a powerful delivery (and rocks, by the way), Susanna adds a dosis of her signature sweetness and softness, thanks to her angelic voice, that just makes her version so relaxing to listen to.
I've always been an admirer of the Bangles and Susanna Hoffs in particular. But when someone discusses the great female singers that appeared in the 80s, mentioning Celine, Whitney, Madonna, and others, I have always mentioned Susanna. And to have an idea of her interpretative talent, don't just stay with "Manic Monday" or "Eternal Flame". If you want to talk about interpretative capability, listen to "The Look of Love", and now this version of "Alfie", or should I say "Austin".
Damn this song made me shed some tears, 😢 even though I've heard this song a few times before in the past
such powerful truth could only be part of a wacky comedy because if this was a drama this song would hit like a brick glove.
Beautiful Song. RIP Cilla Black.😢
R.I.P. Burt Bacharach & Cilla Black 🥺😢😭🩶
Nice comment
I get that this version of the song was written specifically for the "Austin Powers in Goldmember" movie which is obviously a comedy. But that doesn't take away or stop it being a beautiful/meaningful number.
In 2024 I think it's safe to say that Susanna Hoffs has had her moment in time but this record for me at least is a rare glimpse into her vocal ability. Her singing voice is buttery smooth and leaves you just wanting more and more.
Susanna Hoffs you are still my eternal crush I love you so much.💗❤️💖💞💘💝🌷🌷🌹
Hoffs is an underrated/under appreciated singer. She improves any project she’s attached to.
Very beautiful!
I love this song so much Susanna Hoffs. I didn't know who you were. I think I was 9 when I bought this album at Tower Records. I can sing along to every word thanks to you. Anyways was thinking about someone just now so thanks for reminding me of her. 😅🥲 Goodbye.

I don't know the origin of this song but it was kind of the perfect ending to the film especially with Michael Caine in the cast. But also because Austin, in all his silliness, is indeed lovable as evidenced by Foxxy Cleopatra's enthusiasm while being in cahoots with him. I noticed the rating presented before the film warns that it contains sexual innuendo and crude language and all you can think as the film unfolds is - DUH. I mean, that's the theme of the Austin Powers Series. Mike Myers is exploiting the "facts of life" to entertain the audience. And it works because it gives the adults a chance to take a load off everyday concerns and to giggle with their kids about how funny "reality" actually is? I praise Art for being the platform capable of releasing the shared anxiety we feel because of the heaviness of it all. Therefore, it is only appropriate that Austin should hire you, Susanna, to sing the truth that, no matter what an individual believes regarding the purpose of life, it's our love for one another that makes it all worthwhile. And because you sing so well you put three exclamation points on that Truth.
I loved all 3 Austin Powers sad that they didn’t make a fourth one because supposedly the third one didn’t do too well but I still think they should of made a fourth one
Well tbh,The 3rd movie did good. It's just that the voice actor of Mini-me is gone and wouldn't be the same without him. That's why the couldn't do a fourth Austin Powers movie. It's really sad that this is the last movie.
@@sonicthehedgehog702 this movie came out in 2002 and Verne Troyer passed away in 2018 so they could of made a fourth Austin Powers way before he passed away
What’s it all for?… I don’t have a personality anymore…
Hahahaha
Just kidding
