I run through a few of the issues i had and resolved, as i couldn't find much out on it, everyone seems to be using frsky equipment, not spektrum like me.
Nice test flight at the end. This thing rips on 4s.

to be honest, not impressed with the range of this orange rx, working on another video to show the bad range, and fitting of the lemon rx and some range tests.

With the orange rx did you have to change settings in the configurator...?
I have same orange rx and set it up exactly like you did , even 125 on throttle and rudder and I can't get thru the center all sticks screen... I have since ordered the cable needed for spektrum, hopefully it works

I'm am new to quad racing and now have a 285 with a DX9 black edition. i have not downloaded any programs for it yet, what is the best program to use? i had received it from someone else who wanted to sell it, it came already set up. it flies very nice minus the part of when at a hover and throttle is 50% it wants to rise and then drop and it drifts forward right. when i try to trim it out using the DX9 it doesn't change its manner. these buttons work with with other quads i have! what do you recommend, thanks?
im not sure what you're using pal. try using cleanflight and check the levels under controller configuration. trim it from there pal ? failing that, reset everything and start again

Why didn't you just buy a full range orangerx? I've got a full range r620x or something along those lines. Just slacking on pulling the trigger to make the purchase lol
noah sexton yeah lots of people say the lemon rx has better range, I'm compiling a video together showing me losing connection on this orange rx and fitting of the lemon rx. seems to be the carbon fibre causing me problems i think more than the range. keep getting glitches when the quad is facing towards me (receiver is on the back)
The orangerx I have as the 2 long antenna wires
is that shake the pid too high? what amount of tuning did you have to do on the quad for 4s? did it work better and smother on 3s? what profile where you using to fly?
+Elias Treger the shake can be lots of things, bad prop, motors not level, etc etc. but have been messing with p.i.d's this video is quite old. check out some of my newer videos to see the difference. i fly 4s, i use ummagawds profile but i fine tune it slightly to my setup. with about 30% expo
hey does the 4s not burn out the fpv transmitter? does it come with a voltage regulator for fpv equipment?
+TheDIYGuy yeah the vortex has voltage regulator built in. theres even a clean 5v output for the go pro aswell. so i dont have to have the battery in the go-pro. big weight saving

When you get your lemon rx can you make a video on setup with that? I have a DX8 and a lemonrx and I can't seem to get it to work for me. It just wont bind. I hope yours will work out, and maybe you can help me too. Cheers

Thanks for an excellent video tutorial. I am new to the quad and FPV scene so this was useful. I have the Vortex already but there is so much to learn to get this up in the air that I am a bit overwhelmed hehe... I use Spektrum radios (DX8 & DX9) and as I understand it I need something to transfer, or to get CPPM output signals into the Vortex if I am going to use the Spektrum receivers. Do you (Or any other reading this) by any chance know where I can get this purchased? I think they call it 'Optimal Spektrum CPPM cable' or something. Goggled it but can not find anything. And by the way, what Spektrum Receiver do recommend for this quad?
Any answer is very much appreciated, thanks.

May i ask why do you want to go with a spektrum receiver ? They are far more expensive and you need this special cable to make it work. Check out my video on fitting the lemon rx. +The Quadfather Thanks mate! UK web and posting is usually great and take just a couple of days more to Norway.
Reason is that I might have a Spektrum receiver that are suited, I am good at RC cars. Not so much at anything that flies over me. So I am not sure what Spektrum receiver that will work best etc. But I am learning though. To your question about the lemon RX, I have heard rumors about them being unstable or that they had short range. That is why I was going with original Spektrum.
What I will do, I will order the Lemon RX also, that way I can go both ways if need be.
Is there any good UK forums/ clubs I can use to ask questions? Beside big sites like FPVlab, helifreak etc?

EDIT: OK, I am convinced! I will for sure go for the Lemon RX now, is this the LM0007? (It should be I guess)
I am also going to purchase the 'Lemon DSMX compatible plastic casing', product code: LM0012, and see if that will fit. Hopefully a bit easier to secure it that way. If not, I am sure my dremel will convince it to fit ehhe... I can always go for the shrink tube fit if it all fail.

hi was seeing if you now how to get the mode to work on it with the spectrum set up I have the dx9 and have the cppm cord in it and cant get the modes to work....help thanks
Has anyone setup there Vortex with a Turnigy 9x? I'm having problems with the OSD not registering my sticks. If you have can you please make a video with a link in these comments so i can see how to set it up. Thanks
+John Wall sorry cant help you with that one pal. have you tried messing around with the end points ? i reccomend to adjust them a couple of values at a time untill the vortex arms/disarms and/or goes into the osd ?
