With the treated toe plate, do you have to use nails approved for treated lumber like you would a deck?

Yes, a galvanized (hot dipped nail) or other approved non corrosive nail is required. The code book can be vague on what an approved non corrosive nail is though. Sometimes its up to product specs.

I remember reading about when the single top plate was allowed and thinking "jeez, how much money are you possibly saving to do it that way?"

Great in depth video on wall framing! That basement wall framing issue I've run into it where they touch concrete. The felt would be acceptable but the proper way where I am is to wrap it in 6mil poly and it should wrap up approx 4" on each side so it gives you separation from the concrete and also incase there is any water issues on ground it will prevent the wood from rotting out. Our basement insulation requirements are either R20ci or a combination of R10ci + R12 which can be achieved by 2" styrofoam and 2x4 framing with the R12 in it. You always have great content. How are you able to film with the little box of you in the corner showing the photographs in real time with the highlights etc? It is a great presentation style!

Thanks for the comment! All I did was download a video software that had a feature where you could minimize yourself. I thought it would be way harder when I first jumped into it but the video part is actually the easy part. Its the editing that takes a while!!

HELP…Can I sandwich a double 2x4 top plate with a 3/4 inch plywood strip for my basement walls (not load bearing)? I want to do this for fire blocking. The plywood will extend from the front of the plate to the two inch foam board that was glued to the foundation. The plywood create the fire block at the top of each 16 inch wall cavity. Each cavity will then be filled tightly with rock wool. I love your videos and trust your advice. Thanks and happy holiday.

Heck ya! That's a great idea. Sounds like you are going above and beyond standard code requirements. Happy Holidays!
