Loving these videos. Thank you so much. My Hong Kong born father in law passed away last year and my husband never really learned Cantonese. My kids and I are trying to learn it together so keep their heritage alive. Thank you so much from Sydney, Australia.
Hi, that is another expression of shopping, a formal term. Your Cantonese is awesome! Maai5 ye5 is a more relax way in conversation. Both of them will do👍🏻
I've been learning cantonese for a week and these videos are great. One question I have for this lesson. You translated 酒 as 'wine'. I speak mandarin and want to know if 酒 includes drinks like vodka, whiskey, etc. If so, 酒 should be translated as 'alcohol'. When I clarify this with my mandarin speaking students I explain that 葡萄酒 is wine - 红酒 is the short form of 红葡萄酒, therefore the translation for 'wine' is 葡萄酒。but, I noticed you said 白酒 is 'white wine' in cantonese. What do you usually call that strong Chinese spirit, which is mainland is 白酒? is there another name? In mainland china, in mandarin, white wine is often called 白葡萄酒 to clarify the difference.
Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I missed that. In cantonese, we call the strong Chinese spirit by their own names. Like 高梁, 茅台.... For the strong spirit in general, we say 烈酒.
