As someone who grew up loving not just the classic Spyro games, but this trilogy as well, I wanna say thank you for putting my feelings on these games into words. My username on pretty much every platform since I started playing games has always been VeganSpyro, and this series is a large part of why. I've had the absolute pleasure of getting to briefly meet Tom Kenny, and was really close to meeting Elijah Wood as well- I'll manage it someday! But regardless, thank you for talking about them in more than simply disparaging remarks. It means a lot to me, and I'm guessing due to the number of comments on this video and the previous ones, many more. Thank you again!
Before I became more restrictive on series getting more installments, The Legend of Spyro was one of the very few stories where I didn't want another after Dawn of the Dragon, and that was when I wanted a Matrix 4 and Halo 4, but DotD was so perfectly wrapped up with its beginning middle and end with the trilogy, that it's impossible to go past that.
Dawn of the Dragon is really loved by many fans of The Legend of Spyro and considered the best of the trilogy, and with good reason. Co-Op finally is a game mode, the astonishing scenarios the game has to offer, fly (this was something so cool and magical) and mostly, the culmination of a story that we experienced from the beginning. I don't lie when I say I was totally overjoyed the first time I played it. I felt like everything was coming to this moment where the fight betwene light and darkness would reach its epic finale. The theme about duality is something I figured out years later, as the whole story is about two souls, different in origin, but united by fate. It's quite poetic and I love it. But also it is reasonable to talk about its flaws like the bloom that sometimes is too bright, the camera in fly mode, or possibly the most recognizeable mistake of Cynder's VA sounding not so good most of the time, that including Malefor's overfiltered voice (which also brought us some good memes). But still, I feel that they did their best efford into making a wonderful game and a fitting ending. About the ending, while I also think that the post-ending scene kinda ruins the noble and ultimate sacrifice Spyro did, another part of me says that was a good choice they could have survived. Spyro and Cynder went through a lot during these times of war. Cynder was corrupted since she hatched and forced to obey and kill until she was saved but still feared about her past, and Spyro, while had a caring family, peace and a home, his desire to find his roots lead him to this war which also affected him. So, after everything they fought for, that they get the happy ending they deserve and together is recomforting. All in all, Dawn of The Dragon is an unique and wonderful experience, and a story about legacy, will and love. Wonderful video! So glad you covered the trilogy with great detail. And it won't stop bringing me joy that The Legend of Spyro has gotten the love, care and appreciation as time goes after it ended. True redemption at its finest.
Spyro and Cynder I understand from a narrative standpoint, but I honestly can't comprehend what Ignitus coming back from his own sacrifice does for anything.
@@Fungo4 I wouldn't really say he truly came back as he entire role and identity was changed. He was chosen to be the next Chronicler which seems to be a position between the living and the dead as they are stuck at the Celestial Temple. The Chronicler is also a supernatural being even among dragons with powers beyond normal dragon capabilities such as Telekinesis, Dream Manipulation, Dragon Time as well as being able to see glimpses of the future. And honestly I think the whole dawn of a new age of peace after Spyro saved the world is fitting would require a new Chroincler and there be no one better for that role than Ignitius
I’d say logically and arguably respectfully they WOULDN’T get their happy ending, the fail at the end of the catacombs is the more logical outcome IMO ( with evidence) regardless it’s a fun game 😁❤️👊🏻👍🏻
Yeah that was cool 😎 although the voice thing messed him up, and if I may say, even tho Spyro and Cynder arguably and respectfully even have logically escaped the catacombs and got to his lair to attempt to stop him, I think they did malefor ok character wise. But he was kinda well dumb XD
They wasted money on Mark Hamill just to make his voice sound unrecognizable and also almost impossible to actually understand after a voice modifier. There is some recording of him without the voice change and it sounds so much better 😭
The Eternal Night will always be my favourite, but I'm glad you enjoyed this one as well. I do agree, the post ending scene does ruin it slightly for me, undoing the sacrifices they made. I wish, even if they did wanna make it ambiguous as to whether or not they lived, they made it more so, because it's hard to argue that they die, which some people do for some reason. Apparently, they can't listen to dialogue from a minute ago. Regardless, thank you for doing reviews of the three games. Made me think of them in a different way, and I know I have to replay them now.
Personally I never thought the post credits scene ruined anything with the ending. After the Chronicler stated they were not found in the book of dead dragons I found myself being stupidly happy after seeing Spyro and Cynder flying off together and finally being able to enjoy peace in a world thats brought them both nothing but trouble. To each their own of course 😃
Dawn of the dragon remains to this day my favorate game of all time. I've 100% it more times than there are save files on my PS3, ar least 8-10 times at this point, and yet I'm still discoverring new things. I played it in Co-op for the first time a couple of months ago and dicoverred that you can actually give health or mana to the other player, something that helps immensely when the two players have different skill levels. I also only just learned that Cynder's shadow can make enemies attack one-another. And I only on the last run started really playing with grab attacks, I've completed the game that many times and there's still things I haven't played with yet, I've pretty much only really used Fear, Ice and Shadow at this point and never got bored even then, and there's way more to see. And armour sets add their own level of depth, they're easily dismissed, but I think it's a great system, each individual piece provides quality of life bennefits, but full sets can grant game -changing buffs that are pretty hard to choose between, even though the black set is obviously the flashiest, it's a great way to encourage exploration. The game's story is also immaculate and the conftontation with Malefor remains my favorate scene in all of fiction, I can and have quoted the entire thing start to finish. Everything from Malefor's cordial greeting to the way he subtly twists the knife by calling Spyro "Young dragon" is a masterclass in manipulative villains and monologues with a purpose, he very nearly wins without having to lift a talon. As for the flight mechanics... not sure I agree with them being extremely broken, it's got a learning curve, but my ten year old brother made it through it with me mostly without incident, and I rarely get thrown off by it at this point. Though I do agree it could be more intuitive. These games completely deserve a remake, because they truly are diamonds that just need a little polishing. The first two have a lot more that needs to change about them, but DoTD really just needs a graphics update, Cynder's design being fixed, someone who can emote in her role (Christina Ricci is fine most of the time, but she failed at every intense moment.). Everything else would just be extra, hiding more secrets and more bosses and ways to use all the abilities you have would be nice too. Perhaps its wishful thinking given that Activision seems reluctant to give Spyro anything, let alone a remake of the less popular trilogy, but one can dream. Also Cynder is a brilliant character and does carry a lot of the story alongside Malefor, Spyro isn't all that interesting except for how he interracts with them. Oh, and the music across the trilogy is peak... I can't think of a single series with better music than TLoS.
This is my favourite entry in the franchise because it gave the most of what I love about the series in the first place. Though looking back, it still has a ton of untapped potential (especially for powerful draconic combat). The button-mapping leaves a ton of room for elemental sub-abilities by tapping or holding the face buttons while using an element, like breathing a flaming serpent to life, or have the earth flail as a sub-ability to rock missiles. I also wish the base elemental abilities were organized more cleanly, like if R1 was basic projectiles, and R2 continuous breaths, it would be easier to understand and remember. Traversal should go all out without the restrictions, and add a speed boost ability. Melee could snap right to the enemy, have quicker strikes, short and long dodges, dynamic for when rolling over an enemy. Parries with your wings to send projectiles back. Grabbing enemies by the weapons, disarming them, and using their weapons against them. Augmenting weapons with elemental affinity. Just so much that todays technology could give us. And skilled players could take all of these to the next level. Hopefully, if this series gets a revival or spiritual successor, it could be a dragon power trip for the ages.
I sometimes wonder how this game would have looked and played if Activision didn't take over Vivendi Games and Krome Studios was still the developer. I don't mind going in a more realistic art direction but the original stood out better in my opinion
@@AddyLovestar ah ok 👍🏻 XD also did me mentioning my and my friends arguments about Spyro wouldn’t have survived the last encounter with the golem in the catacombs, logically the fails the more logical outcome (due to all the evidence I can share) bug you? Yes we have valid arguments on why logically malefor would have won Spyro SHOULDNT or wouldn’t have survived that situation. Hope it didn’t upset you, have a GN and it is a fair logical view. GN 👊🏻
My only issue with this title was the art style change: I am probably in the minority here, but I loved the old cartoony style and I wasn't a big fan of the God of War look they went with.
I love this game especially when I was a kid, now as some friends of mine have argued respectfully that Spyro wouldn’t have survived the end of the catacombs, he physically wouldn’t have been able to pull Cynder free from the golems hand arguably and respectfully. ( there’s so much evidence for my and others positions throughout the trilogy) now regardless of writing issues like plot armor ect. It’s a fun game and the story was decent tbh. I do hope they fix these issues to make the game more logical and at least better. There’s glaring issues nkt too many talk about. Hopefully they can remake it and make it awesome 😎. The games got so many good things and negatives. Hopefully me sharing my and my friends views is ok. I made sure to make it decent and reasonable. I love this game despite its flaws 🐉❤😎

Have this game for the ps2. So glad that spyro can finally fly
Yeah that’s fun to fly around XD
yep same but man I kind of wish I got the PS3 version now since its freaking expensive due to how few copies that version sold.

ah I Too Love The Legend of Spyro Trilogy. Also I Really LOve Cynder's Look in Dawn of the Dragon. what you think?

I like her in Dawn of the Dragon even though I generally think the original art style and characters designs in the first 2 games were a bit better.
