My biggest gripe with dance music is usually when the first drop ends the song will go into an ambient section with vibey chords and synths etc before building into the 2nd drop. It sounds cool when listening at home but it's a complete energy killer in the club and I always find myself trying to mix into the next song before the first drop ends so as to avoid that ambient section. Being able to easily lay some drums under that section alone opens up so many mixing possiblities. Incredibly useful and not tacky like some of the features on the previous model. Definitely think I'm the target audience for this kind of controller
the stems effects section is a real step forward. it would be nice if a stanalone unit were released that could add this function to any existing DJ setup
Thanks for the excellent review! The drum replacement in Groove Circuit is really cool. I've done this with stems filtering out the main track and playing another drum loop, so love this. Then you demo’ed the Serato stems roll and I want Stem FX too! I get why there aren't buttons or a knob for colour effect selection, but it seems a bit fiddly. I'd like longer faders too and I didn't see any jog feel adjustment. There is something reassuring about having a controller work as a stand-alone mixer with inputs, but truth is I've never needed it unplanned. Rekordbox is becoming a real challenger to Serato especially track selection helpers. C'mon Serato!
That Groove circuit is actually really convenient if you want a track with a grest melody but the drums are sort of weak or not driving enough to suit the rest of your set. It gives you the option to slot the same track into different types of sets at different points without having to wait for somebody to remix it.
The groove thingy seems like a direct answer to traktor's pattern player and I think techno and house dj's will love it. I'd map those functions to a tiny controller, plug my laptop into a pro system, and have lots of fun with it.
Looks like they taken from inspiration from the Roland 707m with the drum tracks and the Numark N4 in regards to the stickers as the N4 had a plastic layover for using it with Serato.
groove circuit is awesome. i love doing my own breakdowns and have been using the stems on flx-10 to do something similar. would have been a hit if they fixed the real issues with build such as the outputs. Oh well its a nice bedroom hobby piece

@MrJustjuiced I think traktor pro 4 stems sound much better than recordbox or serato's. The remix decks in traktor have been very powerful units for a long time, now combined with quality stem generation and the new pattern players in pro 4 and not forgetting abelton link, traktor is now a hybrid djs wet dream. I'm loving my traktor setup, an s3, f1, x1mk3 and akai lpd8. It can make use of all sorts of combos, like 2 stem decks and 2 remix decks with 2 pattern players, 3 single fx units and 1 multi fx unit plus the 4 fx and filter on the s3, all running through a solid 4 channel mixer and the option to also route abelton live through traktor too, it's insane what can be achieved at such a low price point with no compromise on recording quality.

@MrJustjuiced interesting I haven't tried stems with serato in a while they were very buggy but I've read they did a lot of work on stems for the latest version, I have to give serato another go and try to export them for traktor. For the most part traktor 4 vocal stems work fine with a little reverb, but some track are sub par, I've been using ultimate vocal remover and NI's stem creator for those, but it's a bit long.
No phone/line input? Pads lined up on the the top, together with several other buttons. And a useless drum emphasizer. Great product! Like Omnis Duo, which here is already sold at a discount because they don't know how to sell it. No limit to ridiculousness of Alphatheta.
@meganoid_9001 to be fair that's exactly how pioneer setup their cdj3000 so it makes sense from a muscle memory perspective to keep them the same. That being said I would prefer a proper performance pad section under the platter in at least two rows of 4, but it's no biggy we can work with whatever, it's just not my "perfect" setup.
No, it's not an upgrade on that. If you were to upgrade from any of these units, it would be to something far more expensive. You're fine with what you've got.
I really like this controller layout and the functions included, like the CFX stuff from the pro gear. It's only a shame they didn't increase the tempo fader size. Good to see it has balanced out for the price you pay for it. Somewhat a pity they didn't included the bluetooth capability with this unit tho. I do hope the knobs and faders on this unit are still compatible with the aftermarket replacement caps for Pioneer controllers. Only worrying part is that Pioneer decided not have top-row buttons for stems in RekordBox as well, only using them for Serato. It's almost like they don't have faith in their stems separation engine in RekordBox..
I have the Mixon 8 and do similar drum tricks with instant doubles/stems/pad fx, but that dedicated section is super cool. Would stop the need for a whole extra deck being used up

Short answer no. AT is not interested in making 2 channel controllers anymore outside of the Rev series. Phil has talked about it multiple times. The market wants 4 channels. I wanted a serato version of the 800 when I got into djing.
I wish this had been that: new features + Serato on a smaller higher quality unit. Unless RB can separate stems to channels 3 & 4, not sure why you need 4 ch at this level.
Soo....id been looking to find a dj 808 for the drum machine and the deep serato integration, but this literally just changed my mind on that. This is an amazing controller i don't understand the hate. Yes it ain't got xlr or any external mixing capeabilites but what it dose it dose great. It mimics the club players amazingly and will defiently prepare you for the clubs. It might even be better than the flx 10 in that aspect. It aldo got great stem support in serato and in rekordbox it got that really cool drum sample. Been waiting for a while to buy a beginners dj board but always saw the flx 4 and 6 as cheap crap that i would feel very limited on. So for me im absoulutle thrilled about this board. Only thing that might potentialy stop me from buying is if NI was to realese a newer more refined controller line up.
Cool looking unit, very sleek. The groove feature reminds of those Roland units. Alpha Theta loves pushing out new hardware. How old is the FLX-6 that this is "replacing?" They figured out that people will buy the hardware even if they don't need it (or won't use all the new features) just because it's new. They really need to work on their software though. Rekordbox seems a bit behind the others. They claim the stems have been improved for this (they would have to be), I'm sure we will get some comparison videos to see. Software is the future, that's were the functionality is. The controller is just a piece of plastic that allows you to access the software's functions.
What i love most about this controller is that i no lobger have to worry about electrical outlet. Get me a power speaker that have usb, use a usb bank and give power to both my laptop and this. There you go. 8 hours stress free djijg at a park. Yes, ill take it
I actually like the look of this. The Serato implementation makes more sense to me as I'm more likely to want FX on any stem, than to replace the drums with a static loop. I'd rather have cue points at the bottom, a smaller jog and a bigger pitch slider, but I'm sure I'd get used to this. Glad to see a balanced output of some kind. RCA booth is lame though!
I wished they just took off the groove section and made the controller a bit cheaper. So glad I got a DDJ-1000 before all the gimmicks started setting in
Thank you for a detailed review. My questions are has Rekordbox solved their stems issues, and is this compatible with Virtual DJ? I'm not a fan of Rekordbox and never really got on board with Serato either, but I've been using Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta gear for decades, so this new controller does intrigue me a bit.
For the stems fx part, can you select any other fx than roll, echo out ,rollout, braker and delay? lets say i just wanna add some echo to the vocal, is that possible?
Well, I can do all that stem gimmicky (without sound banks) and more (vocals etc) with Mixtour Pro and Djay Pro, however only at one deck at the time (with controller,). Overall I like this Alfa whatever the name is, approach. It's something new. Now we just need 4x4 matrix of buttons per each deck. :D
A-T should have stickers of ALL SERATO FX. I am thinking of that controller, because I am for buying mid sized controller. I am following future of this.
If only you could assume you'd be playing on it when you played out. Your still required to run everything in recordbox if your doing any playing out. They just can't pull any real market away from AlphaTheta, even though their hardware is wonderful.
Cool functionality, Good look! and Nice price! Stickers could have been done with steel plate and magnets under plastic so more durable and removable in second.
How is the sound quality compared to a Rev 7 or Flx10? I'm currently using a Rev 7, but I would like to purchase a lighter controller to go out with on smaller gigs. I would consider this if there's not a drastic difference in sound card/sound quality. Thanks
@@digitaldjtipsGoodness. So the only way to use them is to load two more tracks in the software? Good thing the CPU and RAM can handle all the extra processing, right? And no chance the OS swaps it all out for the hell of it to scan for updates or viruses or whatever they call them these days ...
Stickers are a nice thought considering it's terrible to spend so much money on controllers only to find out that the mapping doesn't work the same way in your favorite software. I wish there was a more elegant solution though, like swappable thin plastic magnetic panels.
Hi everyone, I was excited about the new Groove Circuit feature when I installed the new Rekordbox 7.04 version. I even prepared a template for handling it in TouchOSC, happy that I could now mix and use my own loops. To my surprise, when I connected the FLX 10 to the computer, the application blocked the Groove Circuit option. There’s not even a way to connect another controller to control the MIDI functions. Do you think this is a deliberate move to make us buy a new controller? I recently bought the FLX 10, so switching again isn’t really an option for me right now. Does anyone have a solution for this, or do we just have to wait for the next update…?
Is the pioneer ddj grv-6 compatible with iDJay and Virtual DJ software as well? Also, because this is rekordbox controller does it also work with rekordbox mobile like the pioneer DDJ flx-4?
Will the DDJ-GRV6 be a good choice as home equipment, thanks to which I will feel comfortable playing in a club? I mean a full-size jog, hot cue like in the CDJ 3000, an effector like in the DJM A9 and creating a playlist in rekordbox and putting it on a pendrive to connect in the club. Assuming that this is the maximum budget I have, will this be the best option? The only thing I am afraid of is the comfort of playing with such short pitch faders (I have been playing on turntables for 20 years). I am less interested in these groove gadgets. Is it worth paying extra and buying this equipment instead of the FLX6? Apparently the difference in quality is big. Can you survive playing with such short pitch faders? Best regards.
Dearest @NativeInstruments and @AlphaTheta. Please may we have a new controller for Traktor with CDJ size scratch jog dials? My personal preference would be 2 channel, pads for hot cues, toggles for Traktor's stems and balanced output. Thank you.
Today i tried this controller, but i really didnt like the very cheap plastic material, even felt this when i touched the jogwheel, additionally the small tempo fader and i dont know why they put the headphone knobs at the bottom..im a traktor user and recently started to think to switch to rekordbox but now i think its more better to buy an S4, way better built quality. Opinions?
Yes, you're right. As we mentioned, this is a consumer controller. It's no better built than the smaller controllers in this range that cost less. If you want professional quality from this brand, you need to go up to a four-figure sum.
@@Geo-Media that's a shame. I can sort of understand the mentality of not having it on the pro gear, but it's such a tiny, but useful button on consumer gear.
It's an interesting kit. I wonder if AT is shipping this out to use with Groove Circuit, if they've improved stems on rekordbox that this feature is usable. Im not the target demographic for this controller but it seems interesting. I'm still waiting on the XDJ-AZ so I could upgrade from my XZ.
no news on a new version of the xdj700 or xdj1000mk2 ? I want to get rid of my xz to move to individual players + mixer. I don't have the budget for cdj3000 but i feel like the 700 & 1000 are just getting too old. any advice you guys could give me ?
Only Denon has a meaningfull offering with their SC6000 / LC6000 if you cant afford the Pioneer CDJ3000. People that bought XDJ1000 in the past all moved to the RX3 or similar controller for a reason. You pay much less and you get much more.

We believe the stems are improved a lot we’re gonna be doing some testing and reporting back
For the stems fx part, can you select any other fx than roll, echo out ,rollout, braker and delay? lets say i just wanna add some echo to the vocal, is that possible?
Can you hook up an RMX 1000 to this unit?
Well, I can do all that stem gimmicky (without sound banks) and more (vocals etc) with Mixtour Pro and Djay Pro, however only at one deck at the time (with controller,). Overall I like this Alfa whatever the name is, approach. It's something new. Now we just need 4x4 matrix of buttons per each deck. :D
Is it even possible to hook the usb to a computer while using a wall charger simultaneously on that console? What are those 9v, 5v inputs/outputs?
Can it be used with Rekordbox 6? Or just 7?
I'd like to know this as well.
A-T should have stickers of ALL SERATO FX.
I am thinking of that controller, because I am for buying mid sized controller. I am following future of this.
Stickers giving me Vestax vci vibes with the add on VFX unit. Great review though. Wondering what else is dropping though for other manufacturers
Denon Dj rules🎉
If only you could assume you'd be playing on it when you played out. Your still required to run everything in recordbox if your doing any playing out. They just can't pull any real market away from AlphaTheta, even though their hardware is wonderful.
@aaronb9630 totally agree with you. Market dominated by pioneer, but I still can't believe how denon underrated with amazing devices
Can you connect 2 laptops to it?
Cool functionality, Good look! and Nice price! Stickers could have been done with steel plate and magnets under plastic so more durable and removable in second.
Cool idea, everyone’s saying that
How is the sound quality compared to a Rev 7 or Flx10? I'm currently using a Rev 7, but I would like to purchase a lighter controller to go out with on smaller gigs. I would consider this if there's not a drastic difference in sound card/sound quality. Thanks
Not drastic, but definitely lower
Do you not need a subscription to access the effects?
Don’t think so
4 channels but no inputs??? Did I hear that correctly?
You did
@@digitaldjtipsGoodness.
So the only way to use them is to load two more tracks in the software? Good thing the CPU and RAM can handle all the extra processing, right? And no chance the OS swaps it all out for the hell of it to scan for updates or viruses or whatever they call them these days ...
I see the Reloop Mixtour Pro behind your head 😅. Will there still be a full review some time soon?
Yes
Was the retail price mentioned?
Thank You for detail
My pleasure
This is amazing! Do you think it is possible to map the drum swap feature on a ddj-1000? Not keen to change my controller yet!
Good question. I’m not sure about that.
So, Phil should we expect to see a DDJ-GRV10 sometime soon 🤔
Good question, but I doubt it - FLX10 is a pretty good unit (whereas FLX6 wasn't, in our view).
Just because the new update software with the groove circuit I was thinking about that unit being added to flex 10
Can you apply the Color FX and/or the effects strip on the stems like you can with the FLX10?
In a roundabout way - or by remapping
Does it work with algoriddim Djay Pro?
Not yet, but I’m sure it will in time. I would guess that VDJ will map it first.
@@leighinibizaDon't hold your breath on that one, Alpha Theta wants you to invest in the Rekordbox ecosystem, not someone else's.
I love the instrumental track used for the demo, I've seen the name but many seem to find it. Any suggestions on where to look.?
It’s from Mastermix. Look at the link in the description.
Stickers are a nice thought considering it's terrible to spend so much money on controllers only to find out that the mapping doesn't work the same way in your favorite software. I wish there was a more elegant solution though, like swappable thin plastic magnetic panels.
Everyone seems to have settled on metallic magnetic panels as an improvement over stickers
Is this the leak that people said it was replacing the XDJ-XD?
No, this is their usual Christmas release, replacing the FLX6.
@@hvxcolors396 ok thanks
It would be great if Alpha Theta would release an updated DDJ-XP2 with the "Drum Swap" features built in.
Yes, that would be cool
No XLR again, huh.
Consumer controller
@digitaldjtips Sir its price?? Still, numark ns4fx is better in mid range budget controllers, i suppose.
Hi everyone,
I was excited about the new Groove Circuit feature when I installed the new Rekordbox 7.04 version.
We have been playing with the possibility of doing this and are finding a similar thing
So my question is Ddj1000 or this ? and why?
You can’t get the DDJ 1000 any more so the comparison is between the flx10 and this, and I definitely go for the flx10
Is the pioneer ddj grv-6 compatible with iDJay and Virtual DJ software as well? Also, because this is rekordbox controller does it also work with rekordbox mobile like the pioneer DDJ flx-4?
Yes it works with Rekordbox mobile but you need to wire it - no Bluetooth
Yes, it will feel quite similar to playing on club gear
I was buying the REV 5 next week. Now there's this😂😢😮😅. Dont know what to go for btwn the two
REV5
What does the Crossfader feel like? Is that a Magvel crossfader?
No
Dearest @NativeInstruments and @AlphaTheta. Please may we have a new controller for Traktor with CDJ size scratch jog dials? My personal preference would be 2 channel, pads for hot cues, toggles for Traktor's stems and balanced output. Thank you.
This ain’t gonna happen
Today i tried this controller, but i really didnt like the very cheap plastic material, even felt this when i touched the jogwheel, additionally the small tempo fader and i dont know why they put the headphone knobs at the bottom..im a traktor user and recently started to think to switch to rekordbox but now i think its more better to buy an S4, way better built quality. Opinions?
Yes, you're right. As we mentioned, this is a consumer controller. It's no better built than the smaller controllers in this range that cost less. If you want professional quality from this brand, you need to go up to a four-figure sum.
Touch pads above the jogs isn't going to end well...
Seems to be working out OK in the pro DJ booth
does it have smart fade like the flx4 ?
Unfortunately no, that's only on the FLX4 at this time...
@@Geo-Media that's a shame. I can sort of understand the mentality of not having it on the pro gear, but it's such a tiny, but useful button on consumer gear.
@LuisMontes yea, I hear you. I think it would be cool on some other controllers, especially of your switching genres alot
I just bought a FLX10...Did I make a mistake? 🤔
Your controller is a far better unit than this one. It’s why it cost more.
I be nice if the artwork was displayed on the jog wheels . I hate that it’s not a feature.
Yeah you’re right, it’s not
Hi, does the GRV6 work with rekordbox 6 software or only with rekordbox 7?
Good question, we guess just 7 but not checked
It's an interesting kit. I wonder if AT is shipping this out to use with Groove Circuit, if they've improved stems on rekordbox that this feature is usable.
Im not the target demographic for this controller but it seems interesting. I'm still waiting on the XDJ-AZ so I could upgrade from my XZ.
It sounds ok in this use case
no news on a new version of the xdj700 or xdj1000mk2 ?
I want to get rid of my xz to move to individual players + mixer. I don't have the budget for cdj3000 but i feel like the 700 & 1000 are just getting too old.
any advice you guys could give me ?
Only Denon has a meaningfull offering with their SC6000 / LC6000 if you cant afford the Pioneer CDJ3000. People that bought XDJ1000 in the past all moved to the RX3 or similar controller for a reason. You pay much less and you get much more.
I’m playing in clubs/events who all have pioneer gear. Buying Denon gear would be a big mistake
