As someone that learned to DJ using vinyl and the transitioned to CDs and now midi-controller I find that a lot of the fx and trick buttons are superfluous and unnecessary unless you are performing at a DJ competition. If you are playing out in a club in London or Ibiza, good track selection is what the crowd want/like/will remember most, especially if you playing (soulful/deep/afro/vocal/tribal) house music
All I want is something that can Scratch and do it WELL. I do not care about all that Techno / EDM crud. I just wanna scratch. And the best thing that helps scratching is Motorized Perpetual Momentum on the Platters. But most DJ Controller Manufacturers don't wanna put motors in their Jog Wheels.
Looks way better and more useful than the FLX6 with the pro gear CFX selector and channel assign. I also think Pioneer should have gone with those soft-magnets (like those for fridge) instead of a sticker for Serato layout.

The DDJ 1000 is probably still my GOAT, but the FLX10 does an amazing job going toe to toe with it. As for the outputs, these ones are way easier to work with than RCAs with the sound system guys haha
Will the DDJ-GRV6 be a good choice as home equipment, thanks to which I will feel comfortable playing in a club? HELLO DEAR DJ CARLO ❤❤❤, Q) NO. 1 IS GRV-6 COMES WITH REKORDBOX "SUBSCRIBTION PLAN" OR ITS INCLUDED PAID VERSION ??? Q) NO. 2 IS GRV-6 GOOD FOR WEDDING PARTY, CORPORATE EVENT AND SMALL CLUBS ??? IS IT SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ???
@djcarlo, I'm very disappointed, I would have preferred that alphateta comes out like on the DDJ-FLX10, stems technology isn't like the DDJ-FLX10, I'm just waiting for that to change my DDJ-FLX6 controller, I think I'll wait! I use rekordbox!
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.
SALUT.Wait for S4 mk4 or just buy mk3? I wonder if mk4 will come out soon. It would be terrible to get mk3 right before mk4 comes out. What would you do in my situation?
Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6
@djcarlo question... I'm contemplating on getting the Ddj-800. I know the unit has been out for a few years, if in my shoes would you Buy the 800 or wait till maybe of they change or update it thru AlphaTheta?
@djcarlo thanks, I was torn between that and GRV6, but honestly after just seeing the Grv6 in person at the guitar center here in town, I wasn't impressed at all... I'll go for the 800, thanks 😊
Great vid as always! Do you need to subscribe for the Groove Circuit feature? Or does this unit just unlock the feature? I noticed that Groove Circuit is an available feature for the their Core sub. Just wondering. Thanks.
@@djcarlo Yea one would think but I'm just being careful to not jump the gun. Afterall, after my purchase of the PLX-CRSS12's I found out I needed a DVS purchase through their core sub to use with RB. I already had one with Serato so I now just use Serato or it works fine with VDJ and DJPro also. Thanks.
Well at least it has balanced out puts. Although you could cop an ns4fx and serato pro for almost half the price and still have a reasonably familiar "layout"
A part of the multiple features, what about the sound quality. FLX 4 have a very low quality, is GRV 6 similar to the sound given by FLX 10? GRV 6 doesn’t have xlr but brings balanced jacks. On the technical specifications GRV 6 is 24 bits/48 KHz and FLX 10 are 24bits/44KHz, which one sounds better?
Im thinking to get this one as it will be my first gear, but I'm not sure if this'll be a wise choice or to get the flx10. What would you recommend? Also been told to get the xdj az as to go professional.
I'd actually recommend the FLX10 if you're looking for getting your first controller. The Groove Circuit feature may be too advanced, unless you're looking at utilizing that a lot in your sets 🥳
In some countries where the dollar is really strong against the local currency, controllers like FLX 4 even DDJ 400 are still at almost six figures in price. ATM I can't even imagine buying an Opus Quad, XDJ or GRV let alone CDJs. I'm missing out it seems.
Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…
I love my Rane Four - but would love something like the Groove Circuit for easier/lazier quick mixing - is there a peripheral piece of kit that I could put in the chain that would do something similar to the Groove Circuit?
@djcarlo Much love for replying brother maybe we can meet at namn show my daughter get invition from Dj Shortee Dj Rylie j Sweden.. blessings brother ❤️🤛💪🔥🔥🔥
Will the drum banks be available for download without this controller? I’m thinking of using the same function on the sampler on the flx 10 combined with stems.
Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups
Hey DJCarlo, Could you please share why someone might choose the FLX10 over the upcoming GRV6? I understand that the GRV6 is missing certain inputs, so the sound card is probably more basic, right? Is there anything else that differentiates the two that I should consider before making a decision?
Yes on that front. Get the FLX10 if you want a more robust and long term controller, if you’ve a budget, if you don’t need these drum modes, if you want xlrs, if you want better build quality and if you want better quality everything (jogs, faders, etc.). If I had 2k to burn, I’m choosing the FLX 10. But if I’m on a tight budget and just want a solid controller, then I’ll get the grv6. Best long term decision is the flx10!
Only AlphaTheta has the answer to your first question, though I guess it might've been a space issue. As for the screens, that's just editing magic haha
At first I disliked the controller totally, not making sense of what the need for groove section but now, you've won me over... Unfortunately, I can't afford it for now. Back to my SB3 ways which was the first controller I ever bought because of you and your tutorials over 5 years ago.
This controller looks nice, but I don't know... I'm not going to upgrade as I'm really happy with my Denon SC Live 4. I'm just curious to see new product launches. I'm not convinced by the lack of XLR outputs, and not having in-jog displays. I think that I got much more buying a mid-range Denon controller. The Denon SC Live 4 costs around 400€ more, but it has many more professional outputs, two microphone inputs, booth outputs, RCA and XLR main outputs, etc. It's a standalone unit. I know that there's no Groove Circuit or Stems controls like in this new Alpha Zetha GRV-6 controller. If I had to choose, I would still prefer the FLX-10. Thanks for your great reviews Carlo ❤
@@djcarlo It just okay. I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it. However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!
@7:06 i really wish you reviewers would explain balanced signals better. If the end users understood why it’s so resilient to interference they would use it more often.
Quick rundown if you don’t know, there are three conductors; the first one carries the signal, the second one carries an inversion of the signal, and the third is the ground. Once the signal reaches the destination, the second signal is reinverted and summed to the first signal. This makes the signal twice as loud but also, any interference that occurs down the line is canceled out by its inversion. If you’ve ever attempted to make an a cappella before stems existed, there’s a technique called the knockout technique that you might be familiar with. This is the same process of equal and opposite waves destroying each other. Anyway, this technology has been used by the telephone industry which explains how they can carry signals for miles down thin wires with very little noise added to the line and this is also why you want to use a balance signal for cable runs above 20 feet.
Thanks for explaining the technical aspect of it! TBH, it all boils down to pacing, and many videos explain the differences between balanced and unbalanced signals already on UA-cam, so I don't feel like its necessary to include in every review. The concept itself deserves its own video
@@djcarlo actually I was watching a Mojax video on the same controller and he started explaining how balanced uses three conductors but that was it. It’s like dude you could have spent 5 seconds more on it and served a public good. Knowing this piece of information can be a game changer for most DJs and you have to agree that most DJs also don’t know it. You’ve got the platform to teach them because you have their attention. It’s not like they’re going out there in search of this information, because people don’t know what they don’t know, and what knowledge stays hidden from them to make them better craftsmen. Please consider educating DJs on this.
Depends what you're looking for! If you like playing with the drums and making live remixes, this one may be your key. The FLX10 would be your choice for more straightforward mixing
Fair point! Though the DDJ 800 is getting older now. I still hope they release an updated version of it! They haven't released anything in the 8 range yet
all these features are fun n all but whats the point? as at some point people move up and start to play on club standards and none of the weird fx and tricks are there anymore. really dont see the point of it anymore lol but hey guess they have to come out with new stuff to sell more units
Well, even so, all these controllers have a market, no matter how niche. And who knows! A future firmware upgrade might have these features integrated (which im really hoping for haha)
they do get feedback. I for one, disliked the FLX6 for some time. And they now implemented the effects change on this one. The reason some features like XLR outpputs are missing. is simply because they want the customer to get their higher tier stuff.
Why do they make a dj console thats not gonna work its main attraction in serato, if they wanna capture a good sales of their unit they should integrate it both in serato and rekordbox
@@djcarlo I wanna level up from my ddj-rb, because of the annoying small pitchdaders which makes it most of the time impossible to beatmatch without sync. Shall I get a flx4, this one or wait a little longer for new stuff from alpha T

IS GRV-6 GOOD FOR WEDDING PARTY, CORPORATE EVENT AND SMALL CLUBS ???
IS IT SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ???
1) I believe Rekordbox is unlocked with the GRV6
2) The sound is balanced, and pretty good!
@djcarlo, I'm very disappointed, I would have preferred that alphateta comes out like on the DDJ-FLX10, stems technology isn't like the DDJ-FLX10, I'm just waiting for that to change my DDJ-FLX6 controller, I think I'll wait! I use rekordbox!
yeah~! best to keep waiting then! but the FLX-10 is such a great controller! Stems will only get better as tech does!
Carlo bro ... DDJ 800 upgrade version can expect??? Waiting for a professional 2 channel controller.....🧐
I wouldn't know. Personally, I don't think they'll make one because it sits too close to the 1000/FLX10 line
@@djcarlo 🫶🏻🙏🏻
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.
I think it's totally possible, and I feel like that's how AlphaTheta envisioned this being used haha
@@davefellows ddj xp2
@@Mdnesseptx yeah, saw that, looks pretty cool
SALUT.Wait for S4 mk4 or just buy mk3? I wonder if mk4 will come out soon. It would be terrible to get mk3 right before mk4 comes out. What would you do in my situation?
I honestly don't know because NI likes releasing new equipment like once a decade haha
Between the ddj 800 and the GRV6 what would you choose? I have the ddj 800 but if i buy the GRV6 will i miss something?
Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6
Get a Roland dj-505 instead Cheaper with XLR outputs and DVS function for turntables or Cdj's
Fair advice! Though I feel like Rekordbox users will need this one
@djcarlo question... I'm contemplating on getting the Ddj-800. I know the unit has been out for a few years, if in my shoes would you Buy the 800 or wait till maybe of they change or update it thru AlphaTheta?
I actually would recommend it! It's a great controller. Honestly, highly underrated
@djcarlo thanks, I was torn between that and GRV6, but honestly after just seeing the Grv6 in person at the guitar center here in town, I wasn't impressed at all... I'll go for the 800, thanks 😊
im using the flx-4 and was debating on the flx-10 would that be a better choice or this?
If you're going to be using the Groove Circuit feature, this is it!
i want to buy a controller, i doubt between the DDJ GRV6 and the FLX10.
What would you guys recomand? Since the FLX10 is almsot twice as expensive.
If you feel like you're going to make good use of Groove Circuit, then this is the one!
Great vid as always! Do you need to subscribe for the Groove Circuit feature? Or does this unit just unlock the feature? I noticed that Groove Circuit is an available feature for the their Core sub. Just wondering. Thanks.
I think it'll be unlocked by this unit. It wouldn't make sense for it not to be available haha
That’s true! But those are rare to find nowadays..
The price for this unit, a marked improvement over its predecessor, is optimistic when people’s budgets are already squeezed.
Well see how things go! There's always a market for these controllers
In case anyone is looking for the background track - I think it's WHEN A FIRE STARTS TO BURN (ManilaJunkie & Marco Pedro Remix)
Wow, you got it!
The sound is pretty great! The balanced outputs make a big difference
It's a gorgeous controller. I want it based on that alone.
It is! Some people say it looks ugly, but I disagree!
Hello. The fact you're a big dj and big UA-camr but still remain humble in your reviews is great.
Thanks Nevil! There's nothing wrong with being humble in life :)
this or ddj 800? what would yall recommend?
Probably this, as the technology is much newer
Can’t wait for your video of the dj-az ❤️🔥
Hold on to your hat for that one! Lots of buzz around the AZ
Chris I’ve been tempted by a deck upgrade now think I’ll have to 😂
Here's your answer to it! Haha
What would you suggest for Dj's that spin House, Tech House, and Trance? An all-in-one controller a bit higher end than the GRV6?
Actually, this *could* be up your alley, since it focuses on grooving and the beats. Otherwise, a strong standalone works wonders
@@djcarlo what would be the advantages or differences between flx 10 and grv6? Even though flx10 is older controller
In some countries where the dollar is really strong against the local currency, controllers like FLX 4 even DDJ 400 are still at almost six figures in price.
ATM I can't even imagine buying an Opus Quad, XDJ or GRV let alone CDJs. I'm missing out it seems.
Yowza, what country are you from? Inflation really hits hard unfortunately
If effects available is important to you, just go with traktor.
Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
Depends on what kind of DJ you want to become. If you want to be a club dj then only play on pioneer gear
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…
helloo, today i want to upgrade my dj controller from flx4 to:
ddj 800
or the grv6?
what do you think?
I'd opt for the GRV6 between those two. Keep yourself more future proof!
That was my question also ,,,, thank you so much ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I love my Rane Four - but would love something like the Groove Circuit for easier/lazier quick mixing - is there a peripheral piece of kit that I could put in the chain that would do something similar to the Groove Circuit?
Well, groove circuit appears to be a rekordbox thing, so that wont work with the Rane Four from the get go unfortunately
Hi carlo does it has scratch bank and sample? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm not sure about scratch bank, but sample yes, as it needs Rekordbox DJ to work.
@djcarlo Much love for replying brother maybe we can meet at namn show my daughter get invition from Dj Shortee Dj Rylie j Sweden.. blessings brother ❤️🤛💪🔥🔥🔥
Hey! Which one would you choose between the GRV6 and the DDJ800?
Probably the GRV6, as the DDJ 800 is getting a little older now
How about AlphaTheta improve their stem separation engine and then bring controller like GRV6? Their stems IMO are the worst on the market right now.
I'm waiting on this one too lol
Are the Jog wheels mechanical?
Nope! Just standard ones
Will the drum banks be available for download without this controller? I’m thinking of using the same function on the sampler on the flx 10 combined with stems.
I think so, but I wouldn't know how you'd be able to trigger them. There's not enough buttons on other controllers
i wanna buy it but i also wanna do gigs with it is that posibal?
Of course! Having TRS outputs will be highly beneficial in that case
Hi I would like to know which controller you would recommend between DDJ-GRV6 or the DDJ-FLX10 and also why, Thank you.
Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups
@@djcarlothank you for responding I will think about that
It’s like having DDJ XP2 on the side.
Actually, that's quite true!
@@djcarlo Thanks
If you want to use it with XLR then a trs-to-xlr adapter could work, right? Would that affect the sound quality?
You could, but it might affect the sound as it's not a direct XLR connection. It's like running a 320kbps mp3 file through a program to make it WAV
I just bought an FLX10 should I cancel my order and get this? Thoughts?
Tbh, if you have the FLX10 on the way, keep that one first! That's already on a higher tier than the GRV6
@@djcarlo Great thank you!
bro what the best dj software of 2024 i saying virtualdj is the best love here your views on it
I don't really have an opinion on VDJ as I don't use them, but I heard they're great!
Why doesn't it have XLR outputs?? And what were those mine screens at 3:17????
Only AlphaTheta has the answer to your first question, though I guess it might've been a space issue. As for the screens, that's just editing magic haha
What about the crossfader? Is it good for scratching?
The crossfader is decent for scratching
@@djcarlo Thank you..
Does it have pad fx or stapler controls ?
Yes! It's one of the Pad Modes. What do you mean by "stapler controls" though?
Meanwhile all my hours spent re-drumming tracks quietly cries itself to sleep
Hahahahaha, well, at least this will help make it easier!
Here we go...
Can never go wrong with DJ Carlo's review 🎉❤🇳🇬
Hope the review was up to your liking! What are your thoughts on the GRV6?
@@djcarlo the best I've seen so far...
At first I disliked the controller totally, not making sense of what the need for groove section but now, you've won me over...
Unfortunately, I can't afford it for now. Back to my SB3 ways which was the first controller I ever bought because of you and your tutorials over 5 years ago.
I bought this controller but when I plug it in my laptop, the mixer lights blink red and that's it, any advice?
Hmmm, are you running the latest version of Rekordbox or Serato? You may need to update the drivers as well
does it come with amen break though 🤣
Haha, it could! I know there are still assets they'll be releasing that I don't have access to
Awesome review dj Carlo🙏 thank you for your time..
Thank you for your kind words. Making these things are tough!
FLX-10 is gonna be a classic for years to come. So many DJs still use the 1000s and I can tell the FLX-10 will outlast it!
Where do you place this in comparison to the DDJ 800? This or the 800?
Hmmm, I cant directly compare them. They're somewhat different overall
How is the mic input?
Same as the Master Outs! 1/4" TRS
Hey Dj Carlos, I just want to know if the GRV6 is compatible with rekordbox 6 or you will need to update to rekordbox 7?
Probably yes, but I don't think it'll have groove circuit on it if you run on RB 6
@@djcarlo thanks
Fantastic suite of amazing features, and fabulous functionality. (But The price bro.)
Yeah, for the price, I wish it felt more premium
Looking bettet than FLX 6 but a little dissaponted, i don't know why. I will figure it out.
Maybe it's just not what you're looking for in a controller
@@djcarlo It just okay.
I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it.
However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!
@@kimchi_b 💯 right.
Groove circuit looks pretty cool.
It does! Quite an interesting feature!
FLX10 or this?
Depends what you're looking for! If you like playing with the drums and making live remixes, this one may be your key. The FLX10 would be your choice for more straightforward mixing

all these features are fun n all but whats the point? as at some point people move up and start to play on club standards and none of the weird fx and tricks are there anymore. really dont see the point of it anymore lol but hey guess they have to come out with new stuff to sell more units
Well, even so, all these controllers have a market, no matter how niche. And who knows! A future firmware upgrade might have these features integrated (which im really hoping for haha)
Are these companies not getting feedback from DJ's before designing so they can stop coming up short on new equipment launches?
they do get feedback. I for one, disliked the FLX6 for some time. And they now implemented the effects change on this one. The reason some features like XLR outpputs are missing. is simply because they want the customer to get their higher tier stuff.
I've been using dj studio to do mashups but after the update its acting up. Have people been seeing this issue?
Oh yikes! What's happening?
Man I can’t even keep up with all the new Dj controller’s❤❤!! stop
SAME. HERE.
Why do they make a dj console thats not gonna work its main attraction in serato, if they wanna capture a good sales of their unit they should integrate it both in serato and rekordbox
I think it's more of Serato's move to integrate a Groove Circuit-like feature. So far, it doesn't have it yet
