Hi Tony. I’ve never worked with leather before but your video has inspired me to have a go. May I ask what thread you used for the hand stitched ones and what is the tool you use to punch the holes?
Hi Beverley, I'm glad to hear it! I usually use a 207 or a 346 as long as it's got some thickness to it. I go thinner when I use a sewing machine. For the holes I go with a 1/16" hole punch, or a stitching chisel.
I've got to ask, any chance you remember where you got that "faux crocodile" leatherette in the backgroud? I've been searching for something like that for months and haven't found anything anywhere near that quality.
Hi, this one isn't one of my free ones. I have some other free ones here. www.tonyallenbernier.com/free-leather-patterns And here's the listing for the pouch you referred to. www.etsy.com/tonyallenbernier/listing/722292754/medieval-renaissance-satchel-belt-pouch
I hand sew leather. One doesn't need to have nearly so many holes for the stitches. Holes so close together actually weakens the leather. Obenauf's LP leather preservative is what I have found to best for softening that leather string, or any other leather component. It is all natural, where as most other leather treatments despite their names as in mink oil contain petroleum, which is not good for leather. Saddle soap is for cleaning leather.
Scoured for weeks looking for a simple and relatively painless pouch, without sacrificing looks! Thank you, pattern purchased!
Thanks Ben!
Just what I have been looking forward to! Bought the pattern. Many thanks.
Awesome! Thanks.
Tysm for the tutorial, I was looking for a simple good pouch and this one is perfect for what I need, great video!
Awesome! Thanks!
Loved your video! Appreciate you sharing.
Thank you. Glad to hear it.
Great video, thanks :)
Thanks!
Is it possible to make this out of velvet? I have some green velvet fabric that matches my peasant outfit that I’d love to use!
Hi Laney, yah that should work as long as it has a bit of durability to it.
how big are the small holes and what do you use to punch them? what kind of thread do you use?
I usually use around a 1mm hole punch. I either use a synthetic machine thread, around a 207 or a bit less, Or thread from Main thread co.
Are you using a special sewing machine?
I'm using a Cobra 26. It's heavy duty for leather. But thinner stuff can be sewn on a standard machine.

Impressive channel💕💕
Thank you very much!
What weight of leather and what type of leather are you using for these? (Chrome, veg?)
Hi, I usually go with a 4 to 5oz chrome tan leather for the pouch, and the same thickness in veg tan for the belt loop.

Where did you get the leather to do those with?
I believe it was from S.R Harris fabric outlet near my house.
What machine are you using please
Hi Diana, It's a Cobra 26, from Leather Machine Company. I purchased mine from Makers Leather Supply.

Hi Callum, I got it at least a couple years ago, either from S.R Harris, a fabric outlet near me. Or I got it from Tandy Leather.

I’m so confused on the hand sewing 😅😅
Bummer! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.
