  • In this episode of Shed Sunday I show you how to make a leather tinder pouch to store dry tinder for your bushcraft kit. These traditional leather bags have a rustic feel to them and are very simple and easy to make with minimal tools.

Leather is durable and waterproof. Which is essential for a tinder bag as you need to keep you tinder material as dry as possible. Be it dried grass, tree bark, a fungus or any tinder material.
    HOW I MADE IT:
    - Using an off cut of leather, I cut it into a circular shape of around 12 to 15 inches in diameter.
    - I then used a leather punch to punch holes around the edge of the leather, roughly every 1 inch.
    - I then used some leather cord or string to feed through the holes, making sure that at the end, the leather cord comes out of individual holes.
    - I then fastened a red deer antler toggle which is used to keep the bag pinched down and to prevent your tinder fire lighting material from dropping out.

I've actually done a video on my channel before making one of these. This is a bit more of an updated version. I did however make a mistake and did not need to punch the extra hole (you will see what I mean when you watch it). Still, for those that were wondering how I make my tinder bag/pouch, this is how. Cheers!

First let me say I enjoy all your content. Since finding your channel I have been Binge watching back episodes. Although I love the bag, on a strictly survival sense a simple Tupperware type container would be water immersion proof. I'm still going to make some of the bags!

A great return to SHED SUNDAY! The tinder pouch appears to be the ideal starter project for working in leather. As you point out, the inside of your shed is jam-packed but neat; not cluttered. The lighting is good for the video.

One way to help the bag "to find its shape". Damp the leather with water first, then load it full with something soft (pieces of cloth, towel etc.) to the maximum load. Close the pouch, make sure that all the folds in the leather are folded the way you want, and the just let it dry. Once wet and then dried leather will keep the shape it dried into quite well.

there is a style that looks like a pear fruit used to be for money/coins
if I remember correctly it's made from many pieces of leather
it has a circle as a base then there are long flat pieces sewn together
I hope that I described it correctly but it is so beautiful looking pouch/bag
I don't know if you know how to make it
if you do would kindly make a post teaching viewers how to cut and make
