Strength build is one of the best against Malenia as she can be easily staggered and her poise can be easily broken
Uhh... her poise was broken after literally being one hit away from death. I wouldn't call that "easily broken".
@@SeraphimDragon stagger and poise are too different things, stagger is riposte-able and poise breaking is just flinching.

I'm straight int and had to keep fighting her until I could beat her without getting hit because getting hit was death.
But sure, the stat that gives passive physical defense and lots of options for staggering is the only way to play. 🙄

Ground slam, and malenia is flattened before she could do anything much. Bait her straight pierce attack, and use the slam right when she start it, you will crouch and she will completely miss you, and then you got a free headbutt on her that stagger her and you just have to keep using the slam until she enters her second phase. When she finish her flower attack, run to her and slam her face deep in her scarlet rot until she dies

I remember my first time beating her was so cheesy. Great Stars with wild strikes. I held L2 and won the battle of attrition😂
I beat her with Great stars too, I had barbaric roar instead of wild strikes. Didn't feel cheesy for me at all hahaha I think it took me like 40 tries to get her.

the point of any souls game is learning bosses. If you take time to learn how the boss works then you can theoretically take them down with any build

My first time without summons was a couple weeks ago and i beat her with a str/fth build using the Executioner's Greataxe with Flaming Strike, that thing fucks

My first run was a shitty strength faith build with golden halberd. Did like 500 damage per swing, but it was serviceable enough and the stagger was very useful. Took me a while but I was also incredibly impatient. First phase has so many exploitable moves like the jump attack into ground slam that takes her 5 years, the grab, the jump into lunge thrust. And when you circle around each other you can just approach her and whack her one or two times for free
I commend the bravery though. I would never challenge her with this little hp
ironically golden halberd does best on pure strength. Very few weapons scale with both strength and faith

A for certain incantation requirements and
B even though clawmark seal makes incants scale with strength, its innate incant modifier still has a str/faith scaling, meaning i get more with skilling some faith than skilling more strength after 60
sir this hair style this character design and azuor armor set made me feel like i’m watching myself playing,i was planning on doing a build of dragon slyer and lion claw shes too,you are a sweet person and i don’t need to know you to say that i love you ❤
Another thing that works great is Giant's Hunt, sending her flying is hilarious
I did something similar with the omen cleaver. Though I used crag blade with blood infusion so take that as you will.
That's almost like Cloud vs Sephiroth, it was incredible. Congratulations! After my first playthrough I was conviced only hardcore dex builds could beat Malenia alone, but on my recent playthrough I beat her as a pure mage. There are plenty of strategies that work. Learning how to dodge her strongest attacks is the most important thing.
I had no struggle against her at all but the 2 crucible Knights Tho... Those was my hardest fight

I defeated pre nerf malenia with the strength+faith build. The points in faith were mainly for applying buffs. Otherwise it was mostly strength build.
I did my first playthrough as a level , woden club wretch, until after Morgit. And then i switched to the "bubble build", and now it feels like i'm doing an "unethical" elden ring playthrough because the build is actually suprisingly strong, Bubble Shower is no joke.
Malenia was never nerfed though. There is no mention of it in the patch history at all, and the only change they made to her was patching the glitch where she heals even if a hit doesn't connect.

I'm currently rocking a Strength Star Fist build with heavy attribute and Bloodhound Step ash, havent gotten to Malenia as this is like my 6th run and its been getting dull so I decided to take a break. Do tell me if the build is viable though.
I also use bloodflame buff, repetetive attacks tear, enhanced charge attacks tear. Rotten winged insignia, Milicent's prosthesis, Lord of blood's exultation, dragoncrest greatshield(for some extra def but you can swap it for ritual sword or axe talisman or anything to max damage)
Definitely viable. Main downside would be your short reach, but everything else about this build should be fine if you're patient enough to learn her moves. That weapon does both Bleed and Stance Pressure very well, and Malenia is very weak to both.
@@sterlingmuse5808 Hi, I played this build and immediately stopped using it halfway through a run, not because of the short reach but because of how insanely overpowered it is. The stance breaks are insane, bleed damage, etc. Fromsoft is spoiling us too much with the many ways we can annihilate this game. The short reach didn't even matter. The problem was it was so op it made the game boring. I think this build would work better in later NG+.
@@apolloisnotashirt Ha, that's awesome. I mean, not that you weren't enjoying being that strong, but that that weapon was good. I've only done 1 playthrough with a fist weapon and I used the Spiked Cestus, and the short reach was my main issue with it; but I have no doubt that that weapon class would be really good, especially after they buffed Fist stance damage.
@@sterlingmuse5808 Indeed, if you wanna stance break a boss, a few charged heavy attacks should do the trick. If they havent been stance broken yet then the bleed damage will surely end the fight. Right now I'm doing a whip run, and my only complaints were why there arent as much AoWs for it, and why isnt there a riposte animation. This is probably because i recently neat Malenia at level 1 but she has tons of openings to punish

my first playthrough i did strength with a giants crusher and (only) took about 30 tries to beat her, no buffs or that great of talismans
I mean, I just spam either lion's claw or giant hunt a couple of few poise break and she's done, so I don't get it when some people complain about having a hard time beating Malenia on an STR build..

The first time I beat her was with a strength/arc build
I just beat Malenia for my first time w Maliki the black blade. It’s completely possible and SO satisfying
My favorite build is a lvl 125 strength build dual wielding a rusted anchor and a pickaxe. Strength build is definitely viable against Malenia.
I beaten her with a strength greatsword build before her nerfs, took me 183 attempts, but during my second playthrough, same build, took me 3. The boss is a gimmick, the waterfowl is the gimmic, the rest are just skill. I pity those why say shes a bad boss

Waterfowl really is the only issue in this entire fight. Once you understand how it works and know how to avoid it, its considerably easier. If you dont respect it she is like "fuck around and find out"
Why do people love to spread misinformation? Malenia has never been nerfed, she's the same since released other than some bug fixes.
I beat her with power stanced great stars, took about 4 hours to beat her. Initially I was running one great star with radahn greatshield. Tried to outdamage her heals with guard counters. It was just taking too long like that, all it really takes is one fuckup dodging waterfowl, the battle of attrition wasnt worth it. You never can beat a good old fashioned clobberin

I know this is 3 months ago but for anyone else, don't go in with expectations of beating her. Just accept that you're gonne sit here a long LONG time and try to enjoy the learning curve.
I've killed Malenia probably 7 - 8 times. The easiest was a strength build with Great Stars + wild strikes. Wondrous physic stonebarb cracked tear for more poise breaks. 0:35 Anytime she does the blender move, I would chuck a frost pot at her. It'll knock her out of it. Hard to land though. 1:30 Right here. While your waiting for her to bloom, I would be chucking at least 1 or 2 frost pots at her.

Strength builds wotk ridiculously well against her as long as you stay aggressive you'll be breaking her stance every three hits then use a powerful aow for a wake up.
Chad Builds are the OG build, u can kill any boss with a Chad build
The only problem with malenia is dodging phantom spirits attack when she initiates it point blank and doodging waterfowl dance when she does it point blank cuz it is literally impossible to dodge waterfowl if you are to far to get in close and circle her but to close to run away before she fucks u
you can dodge waterfowl point blank the timing is just a little tricky, you can also block the first flurry with most heater shields.
For me it's easier to dodge waterfowl if ur far from her.. I still can't do the close and circle around..maybe cuz I'm using keyboard and mouse.
@@XTGAMEZ009 you don't need to circle around, just step back a little bit and light roll into it, being able to do this also allows you to be a lot more aggressive.

Strength builds are one of the most effective builds in pve and like top 10 for pvp.

Funny, this is exactly how I killed her when I played as strength build. And the amazing thing is that it took less than 10 tries
I did a pure strength giant crusher build and fought her with it and beat her first try, it was the easiest fight I’ve had against her to date. Big Hammer damage go brrrrrr.

Guts build works against everything.
People that say any build isn't viable are the ones who always spec into Int and Arc. They don't understand there's ways to play that don't involve a katana or SoNaF

Blood/ice builds are honestly the best to use against her. They work well for me at least, but I know everyone has their own way of beating her.

Well yes... i used this build too for defeath Malenia, more focused on faith (55 faith with fire zwei), same ash of war.
But man, you've got so many lucky hits with blind lion claw lol. Every time i try this not into an opening, she just dodge and respond, or start an unbrekable attack with input reading. Sigh.
Try managing some distance before doing lions.. I think she'll react and dodge if ur close enough.
@@XTGAMEZ009 yeah i think that so at this point, cause i've used a thrust ash of war and she never dodget it. But Lions get you closer, so she can dodge.

Malenia is a easy boss, I would say the hardest part about Malenia for me is to save up enough money to buy a new controller to replace the ones i just broke

Yeah fuck that I had double giant crusher and I killed her in 4-5 try ! It was my first time beating her up and said she was overrated people are just garbage ! Once you play through Ringed City you know what real pain is ! And no dragons in Elden Ring come even close to Darkeater Midir !

Killed her with moonveil. She was slightly more agressive first phase than in my first run with the golden halberd, but also not really
The weird thing that I still dont entirely believe is that she goes nuts once you have a rune arc on. Like im sure that has to be a twisted mind thing and that im imagining it, but on the other hand it really felt like it and its nagging on me
@@silvershine2261 I see, I have rarely used a rune arc against her so I don't remember. Moon veil im not sure but I was trying to do the fight with a uchikatana on my level 1 run and she just kept going. I didn't even have stamina a lot of the time. I just switched back to serpent huntet after a few attempts.
