      I can 100% confirm this. I have a group of otters, about 5 or 6 of them. They live behind my house in the river, or somewhere nearby. They are only about 2-3 foot long. Ive just sat at the top of the river bank watching them play on the hillside and in the water by the hill. Then ive seen them run up along upstream of the river then theyll kinda lay on eachother as rafts and float down on their backs and then run back and do it again. It is very cute

      Reminds me of the story of old tom. A killer whale that got so familiar and friendly with a whaler captain that the two would actually work together to take down actual whales and they would literally split up the take. Old Tom would lead his pod out on the hunt to circle around the whale. And then the captain ship would come out and he would chuck harPoon, and if he missed old Tom would take it in his teeth. And Wrap around the whale with the rope. When old tom finally died, they were able to recover his skeleton and it showed years of ware on his teeth from where he Used to pull the rope. One of the only cases were man and killer whale worked together for equal benefit. Humans get the whale oil and If valuable ambergris used to make perfumes. The killer whales tom and his pod would get the tongue and the guts and all the inners and sweet meats. As his share for the work that he and his crew his pod did. It was a one In a million lifetime cooperative existence symbiotic between man and killer whale. Because we both had the same goal and we didn't want to get any other way. So we decided it would be best to work together. However it is believed it was tom who made the decision. Seeing the whalers and realizing that They are actively taking out the food that Killer whales go after, but don't actually remove them. They just take what they need for oil and leave the meat. It's assumed after it was able to make this connection that it Willingly took the rope without any hesitation and tied up the whale the First recorded Time. But the captain being a wise man understood why tom did what he did. Gave tom His proper reward for helping with the kill. And killer whales being social animals that communicate what they learn with the rest of their Pod Told the rest and they came with him the next He saw the whalers leaving port. Knowing if he helped them out they would give him Some of that sweet sweet meat. Starting the birth of the legend of old tom, the one killer whale who worked with whalers. They would run them down The whalers would come. Tom and his crew would take the ropes and tie them. The whalers would drag them back to the ship And Tom and his crew would circle around in the waters happily blowing up breezes of stream and moaning. And crying out for happy food. That would soon be dropped into the water as soon as the sailors were done, leaching out the precious Oils and ambergris. Once all that was leached out and packed away. They would heave the carcass over complete with all its inners chopped up to the nines. And tom and his family would feast feast for days on end. And they would rest. And when the sailors got back to town. They to would feast for days on end and rest. But after the party and the hangover both man and Orca would take to the sea again for the infinite hunt. Working together as brothers of the sea.

    • @joost1120
      @joost1120 Рік тому

      That's because crocodilians are seen as one of the ultimate predators, and showing footage of something else killing a crocodilian makes them seem like an even bigger predator. In reality, pretty much none of the big 4 Amazon predators want anything to do with the other adult predators. Whenever you see footage of giant river otters killing a caiman, it's almost always a spectacled caiman or a juvenile black caiman. Spectacled caiman are one of the smallest crocodilians, but black caiman are way bigger. Adult black caiman are about 3 to 4 meters long on average, with specimens reaching over 5 meters with unconfirmed reports of 6 meters. An adult black caiman would demolish a giant river otter any day of the week, but in reality they would just avoid each other. We see the same with jaguars. Adult jaguars sometimes hunt juvenile black caiman, while also avoiding bodies of water with adult black caiman. There have been reports of adult black caimans hunting and killing adult jaguars, but there hasn't been any conclusive evidence.
      So no, caimans don't get bodied by everyone. Crocodilians in general are just rather vulnerable as juveniles, while the adults tend to have very few predators. The same goes for caimans, and especially black caiman. It sits at the top of the food chain along with the green anaconda, jaguar and giant river otter, although arguably they'd likely be the closest to the top out of the 4.
