HemiStorm's Axial YETI XL Kit 4S Test run

  • I'm taking my Axial Yeti XL out for it's first run on 4S, and I'm taking it to the beautiful historic site of Fredriksten Festning in my hometown Halden. I'm pretty confident I will get some nice speed and good runtime from the Dinogy batteries combined with the Castle Mamba Monster 2. I am using two 7.4V 6500 mAh packs to get a good feel for the car and see how it behaves on the different surfaces,
    The electronics I'm running are a proven set up: the Castle Creations Mamba Monster 2 2200KV combo. Axial has put a similar setup, although rebranded, in the Yeti XL RTR, and after seeing several videos of it running I am thoroughly impressed. The Yeti is a large rig, with considerable weight, and a high torque system like this one will make it capable on a lot of different surfaces and in a variety of circumstances.
    www.castlecreat...
    After having bad luck with a few of my more recent LiPos by Venom, I'm switching to a rather new brand called Dinogy Batteries. Dinogy offers a ton of different packs, for all sorts of applications, and for every budget. The Yeti XL will be tested on 4S first, so I opted for two Dinogy 2S 6500 mAh 65C packs to get the job done. These specs are impressive if you consider the cost, and I'm pretty confident they'll be up to the task, as Dinogy has been building a reputation for themselves in demanding applications.

    The steering servo I selected is fairly middle-of-the-road, I installed a HiTec HS-7954SH. It delivers some decent torque, good speed and has good hold power, basically everything required to get those huge rims to point in the right direction.
    hitecrcd.com/pr...
    The final thing on my list was wiring and connecting the assembly. After years of Deans connectors and being a bit fed up with shrink tubing, I have gotten some Castle wiring, and more importantly some 6.5mm Castle Connectors for the Yeti XL. I believe Castle Creations has struck gold with these, as they are easy to solder up, don't require any shrink tubing and have huge bullet connectors to deal with massive current. After installing them on the Yeti XL, I think the Castle Connectors will find their way into all of my electric rides. Stack up on solder when you get them, as they require quite a bit to get fully secured.

    Hey man, I really love your vids! It helped me out a ton! I just finished my Yeti XL build. Decided to run Tekin RX8 and T8 2250kv. Dedicated 4s. It's a complete monster! Wish I could share pics here. Oh well. Thanks again for your informative videos.

    Great to see the running video! I came across your other videos on the XL kit and started feeling like a kid in a candy store. I went out and ordered an XL last week and it should be coming in a couple of days. I can't wait to start. It's like I'm 10 years old again. Thanks for all your vids. Ya might see mine on here in a few weeks, of course, using some tips from your painting vids also. ---> happy subscriber

    Hey Chris, I love the yeti xl but I think if I get one I would try to run the truck with a sensored 1/8 setup (Castle MMP esc with a sensored motor instead of the Castle MM2) it would help in the low speed crawling to not be so glitchie but you would still have the all out balls to the walls 6S ability..... (just a thought) because I have no plans to get one....the next rig I want it the Armma Kraton monster truggy. Great vid

    A really nice vehicle, however it does like to roll over a lot doesn't it. Maybe it should be called the Axial Rock 'N' Rolla ! Anyway, good job on the build, look forward to the 6S Test.

    Always enjoy your reviews so, I subbed. You recently reviewed the sensored Castle motor...looking for one of your builds using that. (Might have worked well with this one?) keep up the good work, your country is beautiful.

      I'll be switching everything to sensored. I am running them in both my SCX102's and also in my Axial Bomber, and I love the smooth start up of them.

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  9 років тому +2

      True, and more lock on the diffs. In this video I was really getting a feel for it to see what it does, and also what it doesn't. As a crawler, not the best choice. As a rock racer, perhaps. But as a basher, as I've found out by now, it is excellent!

    you have a very nervous nitro gas finger!
    Thanks i saw this video. It saves me 700€!
    This one sided wheel lift in the front is very useless in any bah or race condition.
    I took my erevo or savage for bashing, and my summit or any axial for semi crawling.

    hi chris
    I'm in 2 minds atm whether to get this kit or not, my main concern is the back looks very loose and seems to get very squirrelly when you put the power down. have you noticed this or have you found a way to tighten the back end up?
    cheers
    chris
    :)

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  9 років тому

      +Chris Rock Hi Chris, it's inherent to the design of a car with a solid rear axle, I find it very entertaining in terms of driving though. Compared to the stock RTR, the included sway bar and two stage shocks add a whole lot of rigidity.

    • @SWMDAjaxRacing
      @SWMDAjaxRacing 9 років тому

    Mmm....I have one, building it...looks like it's not a crawler, but I don't think that it was made to be one, but people think that it is because Axial is known for crawlers. But your making a mistake if you think the Yeti XL is a crawler, no it's a desert racer, like the Baja 5000....yes that's what it's looks like it does....now to finish my build...ahahah

      Maxim Mashkin I agree with you! Im building mine. It's not a crawler! But a Desert Racer! Like the Baja 5000 or something, Axial makes crawlers. But the XL is not one! Just because it was made by Axial. If you treat it as a Desert Racer....your going to have more fun with it! :)
