I’ve also got the Bear Grylls Ultimate and Pro version, but as others have said and they're a great knife for the money. Never hit the knife with a hammer, use a small log.
You are the cat's meow! Just got a REI gift card from the kids for xmas. Thank you for sharing your review on this. Now I know what to get. Keep up the great work Earthdawg. You rock!
You will enjoy the knife. I’ve got the Bear Grylls Ultimate and Pro version of this knife. They work phenomenally. One piece of advice. Never use a hammer or any piece of metal to baton with. You will damage your knife quickly doing that. Always use another piece of wood (a small log) as your baton, and you will be able to baton all the wood you need for years to come.
Hi fish eye guy, that's great advice. What is the "Pro Version"?? Or , are you saying Bear Grylls IS the "Pro" version?? i'm just curious, have a great day, Cheers! 🙂✨
@@ji7iij the pro version is an upgraded version of the BG ultimate knife. Different steel, sheath, and handle design. It’s a beefed up version of the original.
BTW 4:22 fire starting, if you use the blade to scratch off some of the rods dust without sparking and Then use the backside of the blade to create the spark as you showed in vid it will start the fire quicker and especially if your starting material is damp. I like to find old birds nests to use..but dryer lint (if you brought some with you, or Char-cloth that you can make urself works best)
@@earthdawg i just got me one today at Dickson sporting goods. They had mark the wrong price on it to 17.97 and they had to sale it to me for 17.97. The regular price was 42.97 . My lucky day. It has a lot of hef to it.. I like the thick blade it has.
It's a decent knife for the price point. I bought one recently so I wouldn't have to use more expensive knives when I go camping. Everyone needs a beater knife. :)
I'm surprised that all gerber knives are coming out of China now. As well as they have downgraded the type of metal used my LMF is the same knife with better steal
🇺🇸🤠🇲🇽 Thank u for your video..i too found the knive at bi mart 40.00 bucks.. great deal then i seen made in china :-/ but after watching till the end of ur video w/U batoning with metal hammer i am thinging knife might be better quality then i thought ( actually ur video reassured me of the quality 🇲🇽🤠🇺🇸 waiting for follow up video... 👍
A small sledge hammer to baton with? Are you trying to fracture your new knife because that will do it! Use another piece of wood. You never wanna strike something against the knife that is equally hard or harder.
@@earthdawg It did, but it could have put micro fractures in your steel unseen to the eye. These fractures could be the catalyst for a break. 7cr is really soft steel which is why it's so tough. Long as you know how to sharpen a blade you will be fine though.
Please please work on how to use a knife before you make any serious decisions about intense survival trips. Watching you knock your moss pad around while trying to use a ferro rod made me worried for you. Smacking your knife with a hammer to baton is a terrible way to treat a tool you’re hoping will give you an edge in backcountry. I know it sounds like I’m shitting all over your video but I’m mostly just concerned you could get yourself stuck. Use that knife as a practice tool to really get your chops down, then get a better knife and expand your skill set. For about the same price you can get the gerber strong arm or the gerber principle, both are better knives made by the same company. When that knife first came out it was the bear grylls knife and although it’s not as bad as everyone says it’s still a gimmick knife and all they did was change the color and take his name off the knife. Be safe and have fun
It's all about seeing how much the knife will take honestly. If it stands up to a hammer the knife is tough. Thank you for your concern. Much appreciated.

What is the biggest difference on the pro?

I was testing durability...but yes I agree you can damage a knife that way. Thank you

This knife caught my eye while shopping at Target. After watching your review i purchased it and love it. Thanks for a great review💪🔪
Thanks, I think it is a decent knife for the price

Thanks. Helpful review!
Awesome hitting it with a small sledge. Now that is a knife test.
It held up to the test for sure!
Looks like a great knife

It's similar if not same as Bear Grylls 1st model revision 2. Only colors are different.
Hold the knife steady and pull back the farrow rod
Love mine!
Me too, pretty happy with it.

Yes, seeing how durable it is. I use wood for all my knives. This one held up great don't you think?

for the same price point wouldn't a cold steel srk be better?
Yes
got this one for my wife
Is it stainless or carbon?
Not Carbon for sure. Stainless
Also whole sheath has Velcro so it will fail in rain and snow.
I got mine for 25$ its worth it, trust me

Great Review!!! THX!! Do you have the "Pro" version??
Peace & Blessings 🙂
I don't have it. I will have to check it out! Thanks
Baton with another piece of wood not a hammer please ohhhh that made me cringe
You should never eveer do batoning with the Hammer
Agreed...It was meant to show the durability of the blade and I am happy to report task accomplished! Thank you
