Ryukin Goldfish Growth and Change

- This is my male ryukin goldfish, Clover. He was purchased in April 2011 from Dandy Orandas through the auctions on Goldfish Connection (goldfishconnection.com). He cost me about $20, and I mainly just added him to my order to make the shipping cost more worthwhile. Since then he has surprised me by going through a major growth spurt and becoming one of my favorite goldfish ever. Watch his transformation from a small fry to a big fish!
April 2011 he was 2.5" in total length and weighed 20 grams.
October 2012 he was 7" in total length and weighed 100 grams.

You should do more of these videos focusing on one fish growth. I think it's very interesting
He went through a time where he didn't grow much because I was underfeeding him and didn't realize it. So he looked kind of scrawny and wasn't developing to his full potential at that time.
What is the tank size you are keeping him in?
Who
I just bought a Ryukin and 2 Orandas.. can not wait to see how they turn out!!
HII! It’s been 7 years how did they go?
I love Ryukin Goldfish. Beautiful little chubs
this was cool, i dug a 800 gallon pond about a month ago, today i put a bunch of plants in it and i put a black moor, and 2 rukin (how ever its spelled) goldfish in there that were all three about 1 inch long ( they were hell of alot cheaper then the 30 dollar big boys.) i think i will take pictures of them and then at the end of the summer if they are all ok i will bring them inside and film them like you did! cheers
my fish from that year got eaten by predators :-( i dont even remember writing that^^ but I might as well update everyone who happens to give a shit, haha this past summer i made the pond over 1100 gallons. this year they are looking good! i just brought my fanncy goldfish in for the winter and they survived the summer so im really happy. i love goldfish just like this chick but they need ponds.. i hate bringing them in.. goldfish are so peaceful and deserve to be treated like any other pet.. cheers and good luck with your fish keeping!!
I'd recommend commons, comets, and shubunkins for outdoor ponds. They swim faster.
Beautiful Ryukin, I just started this hobby recently and got 5 Ryukin ... excited
I was thinking of getting one but they seem to grow to big, thank you for makeing it easyer to tell how big they get
That is cool that you can feed them from your hands. So big, hopefully my gold fishes grow to be that size. I got them 2-3 weeks ago.
clover has grown so much love the dorsal arch
I had a few angelfish and I had them for a little over a year. I fed them like I was supposed to and guess what happened.. They ate each other D:
I'm sorry but I have to say this. I laughed so hard when I read your last line. Lol sorry, but probably not comparable fish companions..
Angel305 I don't blame you XD
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa well thats angelfish do im so sorry that happind
I was told they are very docile or at least semi aggressive. I've had over 40 different species of fish (Oscar's being one of them) and I have never had a fish that was so aggressive. 4 of the 6 I had were killers and dogged anything in its path. Tank size and food was plentiful. Didnt over stock.
He’s so cute! I’ve recently ordered online 2 ryukin to live with my orandas. I hope they get big like yours!
what a fantastic video. Sick how much bigger he got. Can't wait to see my ryukin and black moor change size.
0.0 i have a ryukin and a black moor two,(the only two gold fish i have)
@@jaredwii123 I have a red comet goldfish and a yellow comet goldfish along with a shubunkin
He so cute. My Ryukin Prince is just starting to dull his colours but the change on him is looking good. I can't wait to see when his colours come back.
He still has continued to grow, just at a slower rate now. :)
Thank you for uploading ! Really cool to see the transition.
Just brought a teeny-tiny calico ryukin home. I hope I do as good a job as you. Your videos are well thought out and edited. Thanks!
Yes, it's very common for goldfish to change color! :) The yellow color he has gotten recently is from the food I'm feeding him (Repashy Soilent Green), which has a lot of algae in it.
I have a ryukin and he is so beautiful he is this beautiful orange color with big splotches of black on his body and his find and tail are even with color and size! He so beautiful he also had a cute little mustache on his lip it's so cute
He looks so happy :')
I have 2 ryukins, calico and a black and white, had almost a year now , but my orandas, ranchus, and black moors are my favorite..
In the first tank there are some anubias plants tied onto a rose quartz rock. In the second tank it's a plastic plant called Giant Bamboo. I think Petsmart carries them.
I have 3 huuuuge record breaking ryukin in my tank absolutly my favorite fish of the goldies
Hey! You have very beautiful goldfish. Where do you buy them? From my experience I know that it is not easy to find fancy goldfish in pet stores. They are usually sold on line but I don't know which on line store I should trust. Can you recommend something?
Thank you very much!
I think she gets hers from Dandy Orandas. It's crazy expensive, but they do have gorgeous goldfish.
That's a very healthy-looking fish. It's nice that he accepts food from your hand.
They should have those compare pictures in every petstore :P
It is amazing how goldies can grow and change you never know what you are going to get when you have one.
Only time will tell!
That's impressive how much 1 year can do.
I have four orange and white Ryukins. Yours are beautiful!
Time is change. I have 2 goldfish that were feeders 4 years ago. Today they are 10 inches long and continue to change.
Great video and website!
No, I still have him. You can see Clover in my most recent video.
Cute i have one his age is 1year and 2months i already did see much changes in him
I've just got a short tail ryukin. he is all white with a few red splotches on his fins and a red dot on the right side of his hump. he is looking healthy and i may enter him into a goldfish show when he gets bigger. i have called him Nugget
Try feeding Repashy Soilent Green and/or Super Green. That food really brings out the yellow. :)
Just awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
So cute and wow big fish
It's called a typo. Which is why I placed an annotation over it saying "October".
I've got a gorgeous calico ryukin that is mostly black and white along with an orange oranda and a black moor....I've had them in a 45 gal tank since last spring and they are also growing well. I feed them REAL food instead of pellets and try to keep the water as clean as I can.
sounds good to me :)
Any idea how to get one to come out of hiding in a pond to feed it? Mine hides in the cinderblock propping up the water lillies.

Do you have any videos where you do like a "fish haul" so to speak? I am really curious to see all of your tanks and fish talked about in one video.

Is it common for the whites to have some yellows? I noticed this since I started feeding NLS and Repashy. Saki hikari specifically mentions it won’t affect the whites.

A good caring owner :)

How much lighting did you provide for the Ryukin? I notice the white color seem to be dominant gradually as he age.

I like your video. Ryukin's are cool.
Clover is beautiful and looks a lot like the ryukin I recently purchased. I really want him to get that pretty yellow color that clover has developed. Any hints on feeding to get such gorgeous growth and color? You said he eats food with a lot of algae I guess I could start there : )

He's a Beautifully and pretty gold goldfish I to have a Gold fish he's also a Ryukin he's name is Sayor and he's also growing :)
i just got one so i am a big fan and she is just a baby but lives in a three gallon tank. her name is doe and can you tell me how big of a tank i would need for two full grown ryukins.
he really did turn out beautifully in your care :) but I'm not sure what you meant by "ugly stage" ;) lol
I figure you probably won't see this, but I was wondering why your orandas don't have. the wens? also why are they so small at the pet store. are they young? thanks
+BurningCold Animals (Dez) Her goldfish in this video are ryukins, not orandas, although they can be ver similar in body shape as the two types are both fancy goldfish, orandas, as you have said develop head growths called "wens" whereas ryukins dont, their heads are like regular goldfish and more straight and pointy, a major difference between the two is that ryukins have a hump between the head and the dorsal fin, i have never owned a ryukin myself but before buying my oranda and blackmoor i did some research on fancy goldfish breeds. And yeah alot of fancy breeds and regular goldfish are pretty small at the pet store mostly because their young, if they have different sizes the price usually goes up as the size increases, i saw an adult oranda, wen and all for sale and it was £50 at my local Pets at Home. Hope this was useful x
+Georgia Flowerhaven thanks!
hi there, i love your videos i just saw this one and i loved it, im just wondering what u mean when u say underfeeding!?? im feeding my goldies with hikari lionhead and i feed them just one time a day, do you think im underfeeding!? i should feed them twice at day?
thanks :)
Impressive fish, what do you mainly feed?
He's sooo cuteeee😍💝
😀 excellent video
he is SO darn cute!
: )
Sir what kind of food ? Why so highback after 1year. Please can i ask the secret
Do all fancy goldfish grow big or do some kinds stay small?
I just bought a big, bulky bubble eye that's 6-7". He's a lot bigger than I thought he would be and looks like he barley fits in my 30G 100% bare tank. I'm worried I'll need a bigger tank and he's the only fish in it!?
i just watched this and was thinking if its okay can you do a vid like this on oranda goldfish because i am thinking of purchasing one this weekend and i have a 20gallon all set up for one and just wanted to know what im really getting into before purchasing.
he is so cute
toooo cute
