+tjxpuck Especially when it comes to polonaise op 53, Cho really mastered it and he plays it the last; this stage and the last in gala. He knows that that is his finish blow.
+Mahtalliel Because Cho had by far the most demanding music in the 2nd round. And he rarely makes a mistake, playing with musicality and confidence. In the 3rd round, I think one of the requirements is to play Chopin's opus 35 or opus 58 sonatas. Since he's already done the opus 35, he probably won't do the opus 58. Or the option to play all 24 preludes? I heard he'll probably play the preludes to show his versatility. Although the opus 58 sonata would be an exclamation mark as a true virtuoso with everything.
+Mahtalliel I have enjoyed every Sonata op 35 so far. Though Cho's Sonata op 35 was the only one made me cry. I can feel the deep sorrow, looking back all the good days, and falling leaves and wind on the grave.... Such a soul touching play.

Ivett's wrist is fantastically relaxed, which gives her the possibility to form really subtle pianissimi. I wonder if the projection was enough for this huge hall, though. At the very beginning, some notes were quite thin... But what followed was pure MAGIC, and I couldn't care less for the mistakes. I'll definitely look for her upcoming concerts!
By the way, the first pianist is very very good, good enough to be a concert pianist. CHOPIN IS THE GREATEST COMPOSER. IF YOU LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC CAREFULLY, YOU WILL FIND MANY HIDDEN GEMS. THOUGH SAD, BUT LEARN TO ENJOY IT.
+Kim Banya LOL, is there a cold or flu going around? I noticed that some pianists had the keyboard wiped off before they played. Getting sick may diminish their chances significantly.
At age 2 he rwas a pianist, at age 3 she was a composer, at age 4 she was a professional composer and her compositions are distributed by Hal Leonad Music, At age 5 she made her debute as concert pianist, wrote already pieces for symphony and released her first album. At age 6 she won 3 Awards. Watch her when she is just age 8 at a concert where she play Chopin Waltz Op 64 Nr 2. - ( more of her on the playlist) - Chopin Waltz Op 64 No 2 by pianist & composer Emily Bear
I know Cho threw a challenging suggestion as to "how about this Chopin?" to us, who has been snuggling only within so called Chopinesque comfort zone with a typical curiosity for a typically Chopinesque new comer. I myself did not quite get when I heard him for the first time, playing Conterto no 1. I was a bit baffled. However when I heard his entire performances along with competitors', this 21 year older is a serious trouble maker who must be dealt with, to all Chopin lovers. So that much I can understand the criticism but it seems a bit too cheap shot manipulating phrases like "strong nationalistic performance", where I am lost figuring out the meaning. To the saddest disaster to all of us who loves Chopin, Chopin is dead. Therefore we must be sensitive a little when we try to agree via "Chopinesque". To me always the question is "Do I like this Chopin? And the answer should stay subjective. I learned hard way how tiring endeavor without a fruit to influence another soul by arguing subjective issue with objective tool; conversation. So I lowered the bar. If an artist makes mistakes, he/she is not there yet, period, no excuse. Then I have to answer "Yes, I like this Chopin as a Chopin and I hope He agrees too". So Cho, to me, becomes a rising trouble maker to watch from now and on and... Good Luck.
Why? Many contestants chose it time after time over Shigeru Kawai, Fazioli and Steinway. There must have been something about it that made them choose it. Anyway, the Yamaha, Steinway and Shigeru Kawai are all used on this video.
Yamaha makes some of the best pianos in the world. If you think you can hear a difference in quality, especially after recording compression playing it back on your computer speakers, then you are fooling yourself.
Entering a competition like this is like going to a casino. You may win, or you may loose. Everything depends on a particular judge and how he/she gets up that morning. Everyone in the competition is highly qualified. However, judges are humans, they can be extremely biased because the performer didn’t play his/her style. Personal emotions get into it; that is why any competition is never “FAIR”. Kate Liu is a prime example. Just that Martha didn’t like Kate, she put her under the rug. Meanwhile, Garrick Olsson praises Kate to be the best and Kate’s playing made him cry, him and so many others. You tell me.
@@lczq6737 The key beds tend to be quite deep, which allows you to play very lightly across the top and also create a very full and rich sound. It allows for a much broader contrast in timbre compared to most pianos. The pedals are also amazing, you can do 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full pedals with relative ease, which allows you to blend sound to various degrees.
I am referring to the performance of Caroccia. Had he been followed the Grand Waltz Op. 18 piece entirely when he did some additionals on it? Or does the piece have an edition that Carrocia had followed to make it so? I noticed it at 2:00:22 to 2:00:27.
+xiao1215 Because Cho wants to stand out because usually no one is playing it at this stage. Chopin's B flat minor sonata is very difficult. And Cho played it very well. The A flat polonaise was near impeccable. There are many of that polonaise and I find his the best so far. He did not rushed and the clarity of every note is impressive. Most of the A flat polonaise I've heard is a blurring of the notes, not Cho. He deserved that roar from the audience at the end.
+Vette gaddia - Yes, it was a strategic gamble on his part. He knew perfectly well that many people would compare his playing of the B flat minor sonata to Yulianna Avdeeva's unbelievable performance 2010.
xiao1215 I am a little bit confused by your question. I don't remember hearing Nowak's playing Chopin's B flat minor sonata opus 35. So I can't compare him with Cho. As for the complete repertoire he has played thus far, I don't think he is in the league of Cho. I think I also made it clear that I think Trifonov should have won over Avdeeva. That is my opinion. That does not make it any more valid than your valuable opinion.
+Vette gaddia - Sorry about the confusion. My second response was referring to Nowak's performance vs. Cho's and it had nothing to do with the B flat minor sonata comparison. Nowak's program was relatively simple compared to Cho's, however I thought Nowak really captured the essence of Chopin.
I know Seong-Jin Cho is a favorite but I don't really care for the way he plays very much. Just seems like the best of the play everything super fast modern way of playing. I much prefer Kate Liu of the 2nd rounders so far.
+Johnny P they seong and kate play it like a piano clinic. more like rubinstein in beauty may improve since they are machines who dont fault. the 2 of them just needs to improve on singing the piano. they have no problems with any of the written score. only a few others don't screw up the expected scary parts.
+Liu Cheang Well, Cho was one of the most singing player in this competition in my opinion. He played the music like an one phrase, like an wave....I also enjoyed Galina's and Ivett's playing in this video other than Cho. But I agreed your opinion about Liu.

CHOPIN IS THE GREATEST COMPOSER. IF YOU LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC CAREFULLY, YOU WILL FIND MANY HIDDEN GEMS. THOUGH SAD, BUT LEARN TO ENJOY IT.
아 진짜 국뽕 차오른다!!!
Thank you for uploading this part!
귀한연주 감사합니다~
Excellent
Bravissima Ivett GYÖNGYÖSI! :) :)
3:04:20 Seong-Jin Cho!
+Kim Banya LOL, is there a cold or flu going around? I noticed that some pianists had the keyboard wiped off before they played. Getting sick may diminish their chances significantly.
Vette gaddia. Actually, he did have bad cold dyring the competition yet he won.
Galina is so outstanding and powerful. What she played was very colorful in tone and lyrical in musical lines.
Good Luck.
BRAVOOOOO.🌏.💙...ALL OF YOU!...💐

Really like this video but I don't think Yamaha is the best piano to interpret Chopin. Personal opinion only.
+Cen Peng
You are not the only one, many including myself agrees.
Yamaha is the loser in this event.
Well, it's better quality than the piano Chopin used to compose the pieces

Why did they change the piano ? The first three got the Yamaha, then one got Shigeru Kawai, and the last two got the Steinway ?
I believe the performers can select the piano of their choice.
@@davidcannon8941 that's cool.
How does Steinway feel like? I really want to try
@@davidcannon8941 wow. Thanks. I hope I save enough money to get one
That's because they're working on it. It takes time to prepare and post this.:-)

Who is the interprete of the Waltz Op. 69 No. 2 at 2:06:11 ? It was absolutly delightful.
Ewa Pobłocka (look here: 2:10:52).
Thank you, I did'nt pay attention.
Wow! Gyongyosi the best!
why isn't in hd??

I am referring to the performance of Caroccia. Had he been followed the Grand Waltz Op. 18 piece entirely when he did some additionals on it? Or does the piece have an edition that Carrocia had followed to make it so?
I noticed it at 2:00:22 to 2:00:27.
Why Seong-Jin Cho played the sonata in stage 2?
+xiao1215 - However, would you choose Cho's "flaunt" over Piotr Nowak's pure performance of yesterday?
xiao1215 I am a little bit confused by your question.
I don't know who's the best but I'd marry Ivett GYÖNGYÖSI TOMORROW!!!! So beautiful.
So do I.
I really like Birdy's performance.

3:03:38 i wonder why S-J Cho is cracking his Knuckles (you can hear it crack).. Doesn't he know this is not good for the joints..
Pat but he did well
He might know. but you know, it sometimes helps to flex fingers.
I prefer Mang Tomas as the best pianist in the universe
Agreed. He's way overrated.
