I got to be the Firewood Fairy back in February this year during Southeastern Kentucky's ice and snow storm. Electricity was out couple of days and neighbor with 5 kids was out of wood except for a stack of frozen oak slabs. I was blessed with plenty of wood myself last year so was able to give him some seasoned Black Locust rounds that only needed split then fired up the saw and cut frozen slabs. Got him through till he got a load delivered from a local seller. Felt good to help and give back. He'd recently given me a 15lb frozen turkey and a small box of frozen Salmon filets to make room in his freezer. I admire your "Be Kind" motto and hope more people take it to heart.

AMEN. When we go Home at The End what we see is what we did that was in some way about LOVE. And that's the Truth - with a capital "T". The one that the Carpenter talked about so much.

Buckin my friend you are so privileged to still have both your mother and grandmother. They are such awesome people and in my experience it's uncommon to have both at your age. I lost my grandmother when I was young and just lost my mother 9/15/2020 so please give both your mother and grandmother a hug for me every chance you get as they are very special people ❤. One thing that helped me swing an axe more accurately was putting my dominant hand on the bottom of axe handle (closest towards you). I see most right handed people do it with the left hand on the bottom, but for me it greatly improved my axe swinging to do the opposite (I notice bearclaw swings this way too)! Thanks buckin. This will be my 3rd season harvesting firewood and your videos on watching the crown, falling, sharpening chain were the only ones that made sense to me back then.

My mum was the daughter of a timber man. She was 5' 2" and 98 lbs. I watched her drop 6 gnarly Spruce in our yard full of flowers and overhead power lines with an axe and a Swede saw in under an hour, and each one with 3 inches to spare to each side! It took my brothers a week to buck those knot filled trees. She dropped em, when she found out the boys were sneaking out at night, by climbing down them. They were grounded till it was all bucked and stacked. Never get the Irish up in a tiny woman! Your Bobo reminds me of my mum, tough and rarin' to go!

Firewood season is accomplished each winter, I cut grass in the summer from March to October 😥. Everything has a season. Red Oak in South Alabama, yea, laugh at us, with our 1 month "winter", so funny we have mild winters and great firewood. Red Oak is the firewood which ALL others are compared against.

We want you to be around for a real long time brother. You are SO right about cutting trees down during the winter. I've been telling people this for years and nobody listens. Their loss. Oh, and get some nuts on the that cymbal stand. I've been playing pro since 1987. A nut and felts on your cymbals will give you more control of the cymbal. You really need a crash cymbal too! Get to maul started into a block then raise up to the apex of the swing and turn it around and come down on the block with the hammer end.
    Inertia helps split it apart..
Dad also would point out that in older “sotz monster maul” adds the guy had the “y” of the branch grain the wrong way.should have the “y” facing down for a easier split. Eh ?.

Where I am, I never cut down live trees. I know there value, and it's nothing to do with money. It's about oxygen and C02 sequestration. There are plenty of blown down trees, or dead standing that I can harvest. And they dry even faster. And yes, winter is best to collect next year's warmth. Wood splits easier to boot. Oak, maple, birch, ash, beech. I don't burn pine or fur. They burn hot, but don't last as long and carry through the night i find.

Time to get a shovel with a metal edge for a better and flatter cut. You wore that one out. Ya can see by the pattern of snow left under your shovel that the edge n blade are bowed. Your leaving slip hazards all over. Jus sayn' Buckin Billy

Cut trees in winter. Once your working, your warm and whene you drop the tree in the snow, you don’t hit any dirt.
