Look, Gareth Southgate isn't for everyone but the evidence that he has progressed the England national team massively in his 8 years in charge is irrefutable. More importantly, he has also made everybody interested again.
From 1966-2017 we reached 1 Semi-final and zero finals. Since 2017 we have reached two finals, a semi-final and a Quarter-Final.
In this Tournament alone...
95th minute overhead kick equalisers.

5 perfect penalty kicks in a shootout.
Winning three knockout matches in a row coming from behind.
England teams have never done these things before. They've found a new tenacity and grit to get over the line and find a way to get the job done without playing near our best. Harry is the one guy from England with the most goal contributions so far and is in with a shout of getting the golden boot. If we create a chance in the penalty box, only one guy in the whole squad you want on the end of it, and that is Kane. If we are losing or drawing around the 70 mins mark, i would then bring on Watkins.

We need this guy long term. He has more tournament experience at this level as a Manager than we have ever had. I have watched them for the last 58 years and he is genuinely the best we have ever had in that time. Lets not knock him down but build him up irrespective of the result today.

I can tell by your thumbnail why you rate southgate so highly! Anyone who knows football knows he's a dreadful manager! It's rare for club teams/national teams to win major competitions at the first attempt. Hopefully, the experience of 2020 will result in a victory on Sunday night. @@perspectiVe- huge test. I thought the Dutch would be a test but I was shocked at how poor they were, they offered absolutely nothing and yet it still took a penalty that wasn't a penalty for England to get through.
@adrodog I agree it wasn't a penalty but foden hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line, sakas offside goal was very tight and Ollie Watkins goal was sensational so on balance we deserved to win the game, Switzerland we rode our luck and finally managed to take 5 great penalties, Slovakia we were saved by a magical goal and probably deserved to go out, believe me I don't think we stand a chance against Spain but France won the 2018 world cup after playing bang average all tournament and Portugal won Euro 2016 after playing terrible the whole tournament so who knows we may grind it out, the only time in this tournament we have played well is the first half against the dutch. Normally when we are favourites we choke so being underdogs may help us, who knows!!

Southgate's luck will run out and England will lose to Spain on Sunday. Even if England loses 0-5 to Spain, performance and outcome won't matter to the media, pundits, ex-players and "experts", who will still glorify Southgate as the best manager ever, conveniently forgetting Sir Ramsey's 1966 actual trophy. Southgate's deity status among the media, the FA and his fan club will not diminish, because they are already ecstatic that the team made it to two Euro Finals, despite staying trophy-less.
