Pardon my self promotion, but here: ua-cam.com/video/JM9JABXXLUE/v-deo.html I however use the stock clutch and a belt drive. (No slipping like a chain, and lasts longer) but it's slightly harder to build. It's a fair tradeoff.
Just wanted to say love your ideas, I am going to be building one for my UA-cam channel later on this year hopefully with a 6hp diesel and little suzuki samurai, or maybe a Old VW Bug Frame lol
That is kewl!!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing us the shaft and chain part. I been working on something close but was having trouble with the clutch. I was looking at using a flywheel with the clutch attached but I was afraid the little centrifugal clutch clutch on the engine wouldn't hold up. I'm more determined now then ever to drive a car powered with an air cooled harbor freight engine to the store down the street from my house! Lol. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Michael Madison just wondering, do you have a clutch pedal for the s-10 transmission? I noticed in another video you looked like you getting on down the road pretty dern good. I noticed also you shifted gears better then my old truck did with a factory set up. LoL Thanks for posting these videos I am looking an old compact car.. like an old Ford escort.. to build something like that. S-10 frames around here are grabbed up by folks building hot rods. Thanks
I have a S10 Blazer chassis all ready stripped down and rolling. And I have some standard transmissions. Looks like a good project to get around the farm on. I am going to use a 20 Hp engine on mine though.
John mike nah, the motor has a centrifugal clutch and depending on the gearing you’ll prob only have enough power to use 1st anyway. So basically you’ll only be shifting from neutral to first or reverse and the tranny will easily slip into gear as long as the motor’s idling and not engaging the centrifugal clutch
John mike you’re welcome, these vids have been showing up in a lot of my recommended vids and I just watched one where I think it was the same guy as this truck with him driving it down a dirt road and he shifted it as he was going down the road and used all 5 gears so it’s super low geared as it only tops out around 20-25
ever gotten the truck on the scales the way it sits now ? thinking about doing sumting like it to a smart fortwo (450) it currently weighs 730 kg (1,610 lb) its that should weigh about 600 kilo (1 323 pounds) without its engine gearbox and most of the watercooling stuff and without its old gastank , planning on driving the wheels directly from the motor using a solid go cart style axle , might use a torque converter but i heared about less then positive results from them in heavier vehicles
Use a Wisconsin engine if you can find one. I've built one of these specifically for the purpose of having a tractor 'cause I can't afford a real one. ua-cam.com/video/JM9JABXXLUE/v-deo.html
I want to build one out of an old CJ5 frame. Have you ever considered a brake on the shaft between the engine and the transmission? Seems like a simpler solution than 4 wheel brakes.
man i like it just wish people would leave the old trucks alone the s10s are hard to find as it is i would would go buy a junked s10 and put the cab front end and bed on that frame so then you would have a title and daily it
Have you thought of installing a CVT from ebay?? ( 2.5 to .9 ratio ) I have one on my predator mini bike. 53.99$ with shipping. I made spacers to properly align the pulleys, bought a 2.5in American fine thread bolt for the shaft and 4 more 2in for the mounting plate. Im still on the cheap chinese belt that came with the kit but I hear the Tractor Supply belts last 100x longer.
I wish you were my neighbor I love these trucks but I'm stuck here in Los Angeles I have nowhere to use it I should just build one and driving around on the street like it's legal
Get a small pickup and just swap the motor. I know Cali is a jerk about emissions nonsense so figure something out anyway. Just swap back the stock motor when inspection time comes around!
whats neat is big cams are cheap online fer them there thing a gy6 engine china atv like 125cc with big amazom cam.-- be cool also i like making jet in carb bigger heck i did that on my up geared mower because it would lean out n stall from low rpm but little bigger main jet fixed that fells like a different engine sort of like a car carb with out a traffic fuel squirt pump then installing a carb that has a working traffic pump as the fuel enrichment is there n engine has fuel it need from low to loading engine ...ramble but :]
@@Einstein910 Possibly. I'd say a good average for a mid size truck/suv is around 26-2,800 lbs. Subtract the weight of the body and engine, and there ya go. It's a ballpark figure. Mine weighs about that much.
I'm currently building one with an 18hp Wisconsin TJD engine. Working great so far and I'm only running a 1:1 ratio and belt driven. It has 28 ftlbs to the input shaft at 3600 RPM, while Michael's contraption shown here makes 38.7 ftlbs at 750 RPM due to his gear reduction. Now, normally the engine would make 8.1 ftlbs at 3600 rpm. This means I should be able to easily hit 40-45 mph on a flat road at least. A slightly larger engine makes a big difference. If he were to get the 13hp model, he would get loads of improvement while all the while maintaining the torque to the wheels and being able to go faster. Unfortunately, he would not be able to get 70 mpg with that model.
Fooled me into thinking you were taking about a 6.5 detroit. I love this project, it's amazing
You should make a build series on how to build it, that would be cool, and plus you will probably get more publicity on your channel if you did that

Really cool build wish I had one when I was a kid
@Danny Hemphill same here im 40 and I would drive the wheels off that
could you do a video of you building one please
Cool build, thanks for sharing!
Mike, I just got myself a willys jeep chassis. (We gonna be friends now!!! lol.) thanks for posting your cool rides.
Really? I got one back in December of '19 but I had to sell it sadly. Too far gone. I kept the body and put it on top of another frame.

I really enjoy ur builds
Your my hero!
Looks like a good wood hauling vehicle.

I was thinking that, 4x4, light and cheap. Can put more weight on them then a utv as well. Trying to find a small truck to build one currently

That engine transmission setup is what im looking for for a homemade tractor. Ill need a real narrow rear end though.
A small 3 cylinder diesel engine would be great on your tractor

Can you shift gears or do you have to pick a gear a stick with it?
The 2.2 only made 120 horsepower anyway so you’re not really losing much 😂 and I own one.

How much did this cost you to build, i want to build a nice little truck like this
Have you had any issues with input shaft welds?? They hold up just fine?

Love that
I am looking at building something similar to your tow truck where do you get that big sprocket that goes to the transmission
grainger is one place, tractor supply is another.
You ought to build and sell the shaft setups..
Where you get the trans spraket
Will this work with an auto d21 Nissan trans?
I did this with a 5 speed dodge but the clutch just burned up right away. Got a link to a better clutch or can I use torque converter?
Carson Duba did you get it done? Im currently trying to build one off a 5 speed izuzu rodeo.
Alfredo Aldape I did and I did use a torque converter and it works pretty good. I’ll try to post a video on my channel soon
Would love to see it.
Carson Duba lower the gearing

I want one. Lmao . Idc. I want one.
Where are you getting the flywheel, part number by chance? Great job.
91Cruzin tractor supply for the to wheel drive,, the big sprocket on the 4x4 was bought at Grainger
Ok thanks, just seen the other video where you broke it all down. 👍
Wondering if there is a reason you have not used torque converters?
Carson Duba I have tried it , works ok, but trying to keep it simple
Do you need a clutch to run that transmission or do you just shift it into gear?
It uses the predators clutch
I have a 1998 Ford ranger single cab 2wd manual what size sprocket would I need
And I have a 11 hp motor
Will this work on an auto tran?
Can you make more videos of them doing work?
Nurburg Flip , yes
Is that just a go kart centrifugal clutch? How long do they last?
Rider Macleod yes, gocart clutch, about 2 years
If the gears are right you should be able to get about 2 years out of it, some of my builds the clutch got 3 years
It'S a standard gocart clutch # 40 chain
Rider Macleod go kart clutch, just float em like an 18 wheeler
Rider Macleod mine last two years or more
Q. Is it true that you walk barefoot to school?
A. Only when the 6.5 hp S10's broke!
Could you use a VW trans and do the same thing or is it different
I own a couple bugs and I don't know why it wouldn't work. Still thinking on it... may have to gear pretty low, (thinking)

it's a go-kart sprocket mounted on a 1" live axle hub, the shaft looks like a cut-down go-kart live axle. bearings are also go-kart parts.

you don't need a booster if you select the correct master cylinder and pedal arrangement.
Take booster off
Have you ever build one with a automatic transmission
No clutch?
On this Chevy S10 5speed, did you keep the clutch ? How do you shift?
He uses the centrifugal clutch, on the engine.
