- Here is my prototype 12v dredge. I will post a test video as soon as I can. The pump is a seaflo 3700gph 14amp bilge pump(55-65$ on eBay). 30$ of piping from the hardware store. It weighs about 5llbs, I will be backpacking 7 miles with this, an optima red top battery, solar charger and about 70lbs of gear/food(enough for 2ppl for 6 days). Any criticism would be appreciated

great. I got rid of the 90 degree elbow and went with flex hose right to a 1 1\2inch reducer, got a lot more flow that way. fills a 5gal bucket with material in about 30 seconds. plus I changed the jet a little. I will post a video as soon as I can

I am thinking of building something simular.
Its a combination dreadge tip like this one, with a bucket dreadge design.
2 pumps one highflow centrifugal pump in the bucket, and a diaphragm pump high pressure low flow on the tip.
I also am going to do a dual bucket set up. Heavies go in fist bucket (trap) light muddy water into second then out.
I think i can reinforce the buckets from any collapsing by taking 2nd bucket and cutting off the bottom and top, and using marine grade epoxy glue the sleeve into the buckets. To thicken the wall.
Option 2 will be a removable grate to keep the center of bucket from sucking in as much( a milk crate cut to fit in side half way down.maybe?)
The diaphragm pump will get its water from bucket 2, with a fine mesh screen, or may draw out if creek water flow. To be determined.
A diaphragm pump is not submersible, so i would mount it on top of bucket 2. With a feed hose to the tip.
May skip the hole bucket idea and use a 8 gallon rubbermade pack out tote bin. ( i need to look at one in person to decide how it will handle vacume.)( lid seal ,ease of lid and mud removal ect)
Was also thinking a round water cooler with the treaded on lid may work. Sports water jug.
On a bucket was thinking of the Gama seal twist on lids.
You will need pressure not volume when selecting your pump
Not true a suction dredge runs off a regular water pump not a high pressure pump. The jet is what creates the "pressure". Venturi effect
Hi, if you remove elbow and pipe and install the pump straight (19mm right?) the pump outlet could work as a reducer, no?
just to eliminate that bulky pipe in your front.

If you used four of these pumps simultaneously, could you go up to a 4" suction? Has anyone tried that?

i got mine built but my pump is only 750 gph im also doing up grades starting with my pump..
I couldn't get the 3700 gallon pump to work with a 2 1/2 inch dredge how did it work for you with the 2inch?
Why don't you have a longer hose where you suck the material, that way you don't have to hold the whole thing you can rest it in the water and hold a hose.
The longer the intake with a hose the more drag and less vacume suction.
If this works, how much would you charge to make one and send it to me, or even just send the parts? I live in Atlanta.
It definitely works. I have a finalized version that's a little more simple but you can just buy all the pieces from a hardware store or off line. The red funnel I have cut to make the jet is ½ inch at the tip and 2 inches at the opening. The jet ratio is 1 to 4 for the most part. One small plastic funnel, Seaflo 3600 bilge pump I believe and a 2 inch Y style ABS plastic pipe fitting. A 2 inch glue in style pipe adapter (2inch to 1½inch). Then 2 feet of spa hose and some 2 inch suction hose 10 feet max length for the discharge line. Yes it sounds like a lot but it isn't hard to assemble. E6000 is the glue I use. If you decide to build it I will send you pictures for guidance. The hardest part is getting the jet build as it needs to be straight and the surfaces need to be smooth and level. O and a good 12v source
