- Recently, my brother informed me that the star fruit tree near our ancestral house is brimming with sweet star fruits (Kamaranka). Later that day, I ventured to pluck some of these fruits. To my amazement, the tree was adorned with a mesmerising array of ripe yellowish star fruits(Carambola), exuding a delightful fruity scent, even though there was an unpleasant odor of overripe ones scattered on the ground. I harvested both ripe and partially ripe star fruits, as the tree bore an abundance, sufficient even for the entire village.
Having made star fruit jam before, I decided to craft another batch given the plentiful yield. Care must be taken when making jam from these fruits due to their high moisture content. My brother also took a few star fruits to prepare a mocktail. After making the jam, I also went to that side to take a peep. Upon sampling his juice, a delightful blend of star fruit, ginger beet(natural carbonated bottled ginger drink) and pomelo pulp, I was treated to a delightful tingling sensation in my mouth when biting the pomelo segments.
Knowing the perishable nature of star fruits, I decided to bake a semolina cake the following day, infusing it with the fruit's essence. Opting for the kitchen stove instead of a traditional oven, I ensured even heat distribution by placing a metal roti pan beneath the baking pan. The resulting cake, mixed with star fruits and dried blueberries, emerged perfectly baked and risen after an hour. To enhance its flavour, I soaked the cake in star fruit juice, adding richness with, already infused orange zest and juice of 6 oranges. Each bite offered a unique blend of flavours, especially with the star fruit jam filling I added for more richness. Witnessing my brother and grandmother relish the cake filled me with immense joy, a happiness beyond words compared to any other joyful moments in life.

මහ ගෙදර වත්තේ කෙළවරේ බැද්දට වෙන්න හැදිලා තිබුණ මහා විශාල පැණි කාමරංකා ගහේ ගෙඩි පිරිලා තියෙනවා කියලා මල්ලි තමයි කිව්වේ. දවල් කෑමෙන් පස්සේ ටිකක් හවස් වෙලා මම ගියා කාමරංග කඩන්න. හොඳටම ඉදුණු කහ පාට කාමරංකා ගෙඩි පිරුණු ගහ යටට ගියාම අමුතුම ලස්සනම පුදුම හිතන ලෝකයක් දැක්කේ. හොඳටම ඉදිල වැඩිවෙලා පරවුණු කාමරංකා ගෙඩිවලින් අමුතු කුයිලයක් දැනුනත් ඉඳුණු කාමරංගා වලින් නම් අමුතුම නැවුම් සුවඳක් වහනය වුණා. ඉඳුණු කාමරංග ගෙඩියි බාගෙට ඉඳුනු ගෙඩියි දෙකම මම කඩා ගත්තා. තව ගම් හතකට වුනත් බෙදන්න කාමරංකා ගහේ ගෙඩි පිරිලා.
මම කාමරංකා වලින් මීට කලින් ජෑම් හදල තියෙනවා. ඉතින් කාමරංග ගොඩාක් තිබුන නිසා මම අදත් ජෑම් එකක් හදන්න හිතුවා. වතුර ගතිය වැඩි පලතුරක් නිසා ජෑම් හදද්දි ටිකක් පරිස්සම් වෙන්න ඕනේ. මල්ලිත් කාමරංකා ගෙඩි හතර පහක් ගෙනිහිල්ල මොනවදෝ බීම එකක් හදනවා කියලා කිව්ව නිසා ජෑම් එක හදලා ඉවර වෙලා මමත් ගියා ඒ පැත්තට. කාමරංගයි ඉඟුරු යුෂ රසයි එකට එකක් ගැලපෙන රසම රස බීම එකක් මල්ලි හදලා තිබුණා. බීම එක බොන අතරෙදි ඒකට දාලා තිබුණු ජම්බෝල රේණු හැපෙද්දි දිව කිති කැවිල යන අමුතුම රසක් මතුවෙන්නේ.
කාමරංකා වැඩි දවසක් තියාගන්න පුළුවන් පලතුරක් නෙමෙයි. ඉදිල වැඩිවුන ගමන් පර වෙනවා. වතුර ගතිය වැඩි නිසා ඉක්මනට නරක් වෙනවාත් එක්ක. ඒක නිසා මං ඊට පහුවෙනිදම කාමරංකා රසත් එකතු කරගත්ත රුලං කේක් එකක් හදන්න හිතුවා. මම රුලං කේක් එක බේක් කර ගත්තේ පෝරණුවේ නෙමෙයි, කුස්සියෙ ලිපේමයි. රුලං කේක් එක හදන භාජනයට උෂ්ණත්වය එක සමානව ලැබෙන්න ඕන නිසා ලිප උඩ තියාගත්ත තැටියක් උඩින් තමයි මම ඒ භාජනය තියාගත්තේ. ඉදුනු කාමරංකා වලිනුයි, වියලි බ්ලූ බෙරි ගෙඩි වලිනුයි හැඩ කරගත්ත කේක් එක පැයකට විතර පස්සේ ලස්සනම ලස්සනට උඩට පිම්බිලා ඇවිල්ල තිබුණා. අන්තිමට කාමරංකා යුෂ වලින් කේක් එක පොඟව ගත්තා. දොඩම් ගෙඩි පහ හයකම යුෂත් එක්ක ග්‍රේට් කර ගත්ත දොඩම් පොතුත් දාලා තිබුණ නිසා රුලං කේක් එකට වෙනම රසක් එකතු වුණා. කේක් එකේ මැද තැනින් තැනට දාපු කාමරංකා ජෑම් නිසා කේක් කද්දි හැපෙන එක එක කටවල්, එක එක රසට දැනුනේ. මල්ලි හරිම ආසාවෙන් කෑවේ. ඇත්තටම මම හදන හැම කෑමකටම වැඩිය අත්තම්මයි මල්ලි මම හදන කෑම රස කර කර කනව දැක්කම හිතට දැනෙන සතුට ඊට ගොඩක් වැඩියි. හැම රහකටම වැඩිය ඒ සතුට හරිම රහයි.
