What Are Phased Arrays?
Вставка

- This video introduces the concept of phased arrays. An array refers to multiple sensors, arranged in some configuration, that act together to produce a desired sensor pattern. With a phased array, we can electronically steer that pattern without having to physically move the array simply by adjusting the phase of the signals to each individual element.
Commonly, an array is made up of antennas like for wireless communication and radar, but the general concept can be applied to different elements as long as they measure or emit waves. For example, a speaker and microphone array that is used for sonar and acoustic imaging is a type of phased array. In each of these applications, we have to form a beam and we have to be able to move that beam around. And we can do that with phased array systems.

This was an EXCELLENT video! I am an antenna engineer and I wish I had seen this video back in graduate school. I couldn't visualize all the math back then but this video shows so much of the complex math in about 17 minutes. Well done sir.
Hello can I contact you? Actually currently I'm also working on Phased Array Antenna for Beamforming Application.
Who is watching this for fun😂
This was excellent, I am an automotive technician that teaches ADAS operation, diagnostics and calibration. I appreciate this greatly.
Thank you for making such videos! It is very helpful to understand how phased array, or AESA works.
Love Brian's videos. inspired me to become a controls engineer
So far the best video about Phased Array Antenna. I wish I could have discovered it earlier. I always struggle to visualize antenna or radar related topics from theory. Thanks a lot for this series of video.
Thanks for the nice comment!
wow, what a great video and clear explanation ! Thank you !
Which software did you use to create the radiation pattern?
Brian video = watch irrespective of the topic/ subject. There will always be somthing to learn.
Brian! You are so loved by engineers everywhere. Thank you.
If you're ever in Boston we'd love to have you come give a talk at our lab!
Just seeing that! Thanks for the comment and the offer. MathWorks is in Boston so I come out there about twice a year.
very well explained sir. Complex maths explained through Visualization is what a student needs
Thank you
Great insights, thank you.
12:09 could someone please explain Sinc element pattern?
Cool video. Thanks!
What kind of amp or work station do i need?
Excellent video ☺️
It's simply excellent video, thank you so much for making this video!!!
🤗
nice explanation 😀
Brian, it would be really nice to move to your house for a few months and talk about control theory all day, every single day. But I have a family and I can't :(
It’s a deal as long as you help with chores!
@@BrianBDouglas We have a deal! Time to say goodbye to my wife and children. I just need to estimate their reactions and try to control its. I hope I can actuate my plan(t). See you soon Brian!
I am a boots on the ground telecom tech, only trained on install/maintenance of the equipment and safety. It sounds like isotropic antenna=omnidirectional antenna?
How can the context of forming a beam and moving the beam around be extended to microphones that are recording sound?
very cool
that is so awesome
What is the complexity of the Hadamard Product of two matrices? Is it O(1)? I NEED TO KNOW!!! IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE HADAMARD PRODUCT OF TWO MATRICES FASTER!!!
can you elaborate on the difference in an optical phased array?
does all of this still hold if i'm sampling each element one by one? fast, but never at the same time. i'm thinking it might shift the peak around, but what i'd really like to know is if it would work at all. assuming it would, does trying to compensate for the "missing" samples make it worse? on an 8 channel system, one of them is always 7 samples "behind".does sampling them in a random order help or hurt? large microphone arrays are terribly expensive, i've had "make a crap one and see how bad it is" in my todo list for years but i keep imagining things that would make it not work at the price i need the hack to be in. (the pio in the pico made using digital microphones on a large scale easy, i'd expect them to tap out at like 18 microphones per pico, but i'm just guessing)
Yep, that time delay would shift the peak around. Here's an audio example that uses time delay to shift the beam: www.mathworks.com/help/phased/ug/acoustic-beamforming-using-a-microphone-array.html#MicrophoneBeamformerExample-3
amazing
Well-Communicated & I ate it up with a spoon ;)
@ Brian Douglas,
কত দিন পরে এলে গো বন্ধু । 🥰🥰😍😍
Vivid explanation
The dark lines is where the signal has a high negative absolute value. The signal is low (near zero) between the white and dark strips.
Hello sir, how to provide unequal distance between antenna elements? Like, its not always 0.5 lambda between all the elements?
In the sensor array analyzer app? If so, then instead of choosing uniform linear array, choose the arbitrary array and set your elements with any spacing.
wonderful👍👍👍
Thanks!
PESA radar?
2:09 *steering of the beam is done digitally*
Let's say I had 5 to 40 thousand transducers in orbit. What's my capabilities?
😂

@bitluni ..dachte koennte fuer dich interessant sein ;)
Tnx . Now jina and the orks will steal our tec. Lol thats just what they do. Hahahahahahahah
