Remember Gametrailers? Oh yeah! I loved them before they closed in 2015. I wonder what those guys are up to... Looks like they're now into indie-western-musicals, a genre that has recently taken off. Good for them!
This is why I love Easy Allies. Not only do they put out great gaming content, but they also have time to (and are not afraid to) do passion projects that aren't related to games, which I just adore. Things like this and Kyle's Box Peek are what set Easy Allies apart from the rest. Great work guys! Keep up the fantastic work.
Ian doesn’t get enough credit for putting crazy things like this together every week. Don’t get me wrong, this is totally different than his usual stuff but still.
Outstanding work of the actors, the set, music and writing. Thanks for blessing us this Halloween. This is great fun. I know you're all proud. Ian, I bet you're satisfied getting this finished and out there. So good!!
This is rad. You should expand this into a feature length musical. It's really so good and I just want more of this world. When you do make it into a full length musical I hope Bosmans part gets a little bigger. I want more of the bank and his demon guard.
Beautiful songs, and Brandon makes the most perfect antagonist I've ever seen o.O Seriously, everyone did great, but - Jones as a bad guy was increadable, that honest and inocent smile and eyes. It was wierd. Fuck yeah, this was neat.
Honestly can’t think of another company that would allow their content creators the freedom to follow their crazy ideas as much as Easy Allies does. It’s such a beautiful philosophy for work. Always impressive, keep it up. Love and respect
What. The. Heck. I need to stop watching this and get comfortable and get some food and get ready to watch this for real. What the heck. How were you guys hiding this?
I never even saw this before until now. As somebody who absolutely hated and bashed the recent glitch eater video , I gotta say I thought this was really damn good, one of my favorite things Ian has done. I really have no idea what was going on in the story, ( I don't mean that as a knock against it, I just mean I have a tendency to space out in general when I watch a show )but I thought the music and atmosphere was awesome. The music was actually something I would listen to in my free time. Great job Ian. And Brandon was really good too
Ian, I knew you were creative and talented, but this is ingenious! I love it. To write, direct, and compose something of this caliber is impressive to say the least (it's also what impresses me about John Carpenter). And as a visual artist who is his own toughest critic, I'd like to offer you an artistic critique to encourage you to strive to be even better at doing work like this, because this is brilliant and I want to see more. I'll start with what I like best: the first song, The Tree of Eyes, is perfection! And your lyrics and music throughout the entire work do a terrific job at telling the story. But as you know, film is a visual medium (show, not tell, when you can), even in a musical-and body language can tell a story too. It doesn't always need to, but I feel like this musical could use just a little more physical expression, particularly in the scene with Living Our Old Lives. To think of ways you could do this, ask yourself this: what would you do with the body language if that were your only means of telling the story? In other words, if words and faces were not an option, and neither was sound effects or music, what would you have the characters do with their bodies to tell the story? You don't necessarily have to choose a pantomime style, because you also have lyrics, faces, and words-and film is also about subtlety (I think your work shows you already knows this). But if you take this principal of narrative physical expression and apply a little of it to some more of your shots (because you already do this well in the shots where you do implement it), I think it would be an improvement. You wouldn’t need to apply this to every character either. For example, your main character seems like the stolid type that would be less animated, and stillness relative to motion can convey a character who has command. And to take this one step further, there's also the placement of the actors and how that placement can be animated to further express the narrative and the personality of the characters. You might be able to get away with this by doing just a few pickups. Similar to body language, this could also allow your static characters to stand out more when you want them to, because relative to the characters that are moving more, the ones that are stationary will appear more still by contrast. In the scene with Living Our Old Lives, Subtlety seems like the more expressive character, so maybe she could do more of the moving, and have the more obvious body language. And in the scene before that with the Tree of Eyes, there's a moment when the "Man with No Name" just about decides to start his quest alone after hearing the first part of the prophecy. When this happens, he could actually walk away from the "oracle," or at least turn his back on it. Then when the oracle mentions Subtlety's name, he could whirl around in addition to drawing his gun, perhaps walking toward the oracle while aiming at it. I think there are also parts that could benefit from less over-the-shoulder shots. You have a lot of medium shots and a good amount of closeups, so maybe a few more wide shots-maybe even a smattering of extreme closeups. And I realize you're working with limitations, but more camera movements like pans would also liven up the variety if you can pull that off. Check out this scene featuring Everything's Alright from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar (1973). It illustrates a lot of what I'm talking about: www.dailymotion.com/video/x7i6z0 Notice how constantly the actors act out the story not just with their faces and voices, but also with their bodies (you don't necessarily have to do it in the same style or to the same extent, but think of this as inspiration). And notice in the final shot how still Jesus is by comparison and the effect this contrast has. Also note how many shots in this scene are not over-the-shoulder shots. These are just ideas for possibilities, but of course you have your own artistic taste and vision. And don't forget, I'm only trying to help because I really like this and want more!
Just had to sneak Wanderer in there, didn't ya?! ;) Fantastic work, that was a trip to watch. Loved the 'twist,' can't even imagine how long this took to conceive and write and produce. Try not to steal all the limelight with Box Peek coming out on Monday, Ian!
Wow. So stellar!! Every minute had me captivated, thank you for sharing.... The witches song reminded me of kulning... that gritty, soulful lament... "whaddaya want, boss man", fucking awesome, Ian & co.... just brilliant! Ah! Get outta here!
