    Soooooo nice! I can almost smell the salt water. But where did you get that bacon?!?! I haven’t seen bacon like that since I was a kid!
    Lovely Coho and great to see you use the belly and heads for bait. Waiting for the next adventure!

      Mmm we like naturally smoked thick sliced bacon sooo good. And yes the heads of the fish gets us crab and the belly gets us halibuts! Hopefully we will get some halibut this winter. I always enjoy trying ⚓️⚓️

      They aren’t really lobsters They are small. We call them butt flappers. So tiny and kind of annoying lol. I did make a good broth with them for my seafood chowder I’m going to make!

    Great video you guys!👍 Ranger is such a good boat dog, no worries about pirates when he’s aboard. Great idea to use the electric knife. We had one on board that got used for rockfish because they dulled the knives so quick, but stayed old school for everything else. Looking forward to the next trip.

    Another great video, Thank You!
    I have never seen anyone filet a fish the way you did. It looked very quick and easy. How about doing a video on your method, including tips and tricks? Also, Is that a regular electric knife or is it one of the electric fileting knives? (I think I saw on in a sporting store once.)

    • @MVSKOOKUM1
      @MVSKOOKUM1  3 роки тому

      It’s just a regular knife used for carving a turkey lol. We could totally do a slow motion one explaining the method. Derek usually has so many fish to clean he just flies through them so fast haha

    As always, very interesting. It seems like one is on board with you. Well narrated. I think Ranger enjoys being in the spotlight and stealing the show. I just watch the latest adventure of the Mermaid Monster, and sadly they just recently lost one of their two boat dogs.

    Great video..electric knife for filleting..good idea. Ranger and Derek playing was pretty funny. Do you guys run the heating on these sept weekend runs? Is it a diesel furnace ?

    • @MVSKOOKUM1
      @MVSKOOKUM1  3 роки тому

      We do have a diesel furnace, and also when the boat is running we have diesel hydronic heating system which heats us up. Also if we run the generator, we can use our electric heaters too! I’m always cold so it’s me wanting the heat turned up lol. Jen

    Very nice episode guys. Just curious about your electric hot plate and why you use it over propane. With our recent purchase of a 1981 48’ Tollycraft we have an electric stove, We are thinking of pulling it out in favour of putting in a propane cooktop. While working while on shore power, the electric oven is a huge draw on our batteries/generator while on the hook. I look at the propane as a much more convenient option. What am I missing?

    • @MVSKOOKUM1
      @MVSKOOKUM1  3 роки тому

      Oh we use the propane a lot but when we do have the generator running to charge the batteries, do laundry, or make water we do take advantage and cook with electric. 👍. Propane would be the way to go to for a stove for sure

      Where do you keep your boat? 😀. Do you go on trips too?

    • @LetsGoOutdoors
      @LetsGoOutdoors 3 роки тому

      @@MVSKOOKUM1 currently we are keeping the boat in North Saanich. When we do get out to the boat we absolutely cruise. We have been boat owners for the past 10-years and have spent most of our time in the Gulf Islands. We have made only two trips into Desolation, so exploring further north is high on our list once we make the move to the boat full-time. One of the biggest issues we see right now is finding a marina that will allow live-a boards. We are on a number of wait lists, but only a hand full of marines will allow full-time live-a-boards. What is the situation up in your part of the world?

    • @MVSKOOKUM1
      @MVSKOOKUM1  3 роки тому

      @@LetsGoOutdoors wow I didn’t realize it was that much of a challenge to find a marina that allows live aboards down south. When Derek retires we are planning to head down South for a bit of a change. Leave the snow behind haha! We are hoping to maybe stay in Nanaimo or around Ladysmith. We still aren’t sure. I love Desolation Sound! It’s so nice and the water is warm too. Calvert Island is really nice too. Some of the nicest beaches I’ve ever seen
