Shed code plate 65A is for Glasgow Eastfield MPD, and the loco also carries the distinctive white “Eastfield Stripe” along its bodyside. The Class 29’s were allocated to the Scottish Region of BR from the start (with the Class 22’s allocated to the Western Region).
Great review of an excellent model . Already have two Dapol Class 22s in my collection and looking to get a Dapol Class 21 in green to add to my layout. The two Class 22 have proved to be of superb quality and running properties
I'm not normally a fan of diesels, just regard them as poor substitutes for my beloved steam, but this model is tempting me. Dapol must be purring at this review, and they deserve the verdict.
I would endorse all the positives that you pointed out about this model. Dapol have had a bit of kicking online in the past about some of their models, but this 29 and its 'companion' 21 are real winners for me and I am really happy with both of my two models, usual disclaimer!
That is a lovely model, and I had no idea of the nickname. I've seen a lot of reviews of Dapol models, but most have been somewhat negative. It's nice to see that Dapol can and do produce good quality models.
Great review and model,Dapol make good stuff,I’ve got a couple of Westerns and a Class 22 and they are my best runners,I’ve never had any problems at all 👍👍
Excellent and fair review as always and I must agree with you that for the price it is a very good model. I need a BR Green loco so ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, !! Cheers Kev
Lovely review, measured and a nice attention to detail. Interesting Dapol say on the box the locomotive was a diesel hydraulic (ala the class 22), but I thought the class 21 and 29s were diesel electrics!
nice loco. great review. The only downside i can see is the length of wires, it only takes someone who is a bit careless could pull the wires a bit too hard and possibly break them or pull them loose. But apart from that a good little engine.
The builder plates look very much to be 0.1mm etched nickel silver. I see a piece of the sprue on the builder plate (left bottom edge) and to show that they are separarate pieces, ther is some glue around it. But at this scale, you don't see these minor "mistakes" with the eye without magnification. It would practically be impossible to cut and fit these better. I'm impressed with the details of the model!
I really like the livery on this model and as my Layout is called "YorkDale LNER Preservation Railway" (FaceBook) and Is theme-based towards the end of Steam and the beginning of Diesel I should buy one but it is just the look of the front and rear that puts me off. Maybe it will grow on me later. A very nice and informative video Jenny. Thank you. Martin (Dhaka, Bangladesh.)
This could get costly i sold all my 70/80s stuff, Ive nothing now but having watched this well i think a depot layout might be in the offing thankyou, Ex secondman BR Tone.
WakefieldTrainLad thanks! One 22 was saved then accidentally scrapped by BR before it could be collected. A 21 survived at Barry until the early 1980s.
Looks like an awesome model. Very minor quibble, and who's going to look, that shed plate looks totally wrong - the A suffix should be totally below the number. From your excellent review it's all I could spot!
Nice review jen. I thought what a ugly spot of a loco when I first saw it but it certainly grows on you. Must admit, I prefer the all green look myself. DCC fitting looks a doddle.

The two-tone green is just beautiful
Love the level of detail on that - amazing! The NBL story is fascinating. Great review Jenny as usual!

Just bought one DCC Sound - it’s a great piece of kit .
A great review. As a yank I have fallen in love with BR locomotives. As a result of this review, I am going to purchase one. Thanks, Jenny
We had some real (unsuccessful) oddballs coming out in the late '50s, early 60's, these were certainly one of them!
Wow this is a lovely looking loco. It's definatly going on my shopping list ! Thank you very much for reviewing it Jenny 👍
Tim's Trains you’re welcome!

Hi Jenny great and very thorough review, I got my one today in the post and running it at the moment, and I agree it is a fabulous loco , chuffed 👍

Western 1000 my 22 has been a superb performer.
Very good Jenny . You’ve just convinced me , although you were pushing against an open door! Hoping to pick one up at Model Rail Scotland .
Brilliant review love it
Connor 1998 thanks!
Jennifer E. Kirk no problem
Awesome! It’s about time that someone made a new-build class 21/29!
Brilliant review! Tempted to get one now 😬😬
Wardle Road you know you want to.....!

Looks really awesome 👌😍 like the video and colors
Don Harsh thanks!
At last, a manufacturer who is thinking of the modeler. Easy to lub and fit a decoder to. The price is not bad.
Nigel Carter yes they are certainly making them so much easier.
just starting out, and this is on my hit list. great review.
Christmas 1965 - my first 16.5mm model was a class 29 - Playcraft, HO. By Jouef I think. This new one is probably better...
sleepyrider I suspect that the new one is very far ahead!

Railway_Music_Lover thanks! Yes those wires were verging on a little too short.

Amazing review of an amazing locomotive, Sad to hear that the real things never survived
WakefieldTrainLad thanks! One 22 was saved then accidentally scrapped by BR before it could be collected. A 21 survived at Barry until the early 1980s.
@@JenniferEKirk Oh? I must have been thinking of something else.
Tgey are all gone now. The 21 was scrapped having been heavily vandalised and used as a toilet by spotters roaming the scrap yard.
@@JenniferEKirk Ah right. Thanks for the info

Leslie Gilpin I wonder if the real 29s had odd shed plates and it might be an accurate copy.
I take it you like it then Jen' lol ,excellent no B/S review
daystatesniper01 certainly, yes. It really is a well designed and well made model. It deserves the credit!
Whats your view of the blue one - is the blue colour correct or is it that odd blue thats different to the Hornby/Bachmann stable of BR Blue?
Nice review jen. I thought what a ugly spot of a loco when I first saw it but it certainly grows on you. Must admit, I prefer the all green look myself. DCC fitting looks a doddle.
the class 21 or class 29 were not hydraulic, they were diesel electric.
I say Dap-pol not Day-pol!
