American here. What is the British definition of far right? I’m confused, and I can’t find how it applies to this situation. We have rioters here who are clearly aligned with ideologies, unless they are looting. Looters obviously are just thieves and burglars.
I'd define far right in a British context as being based upon the supremacy of the rights of white people over those of colour. In the 19th century it was based upon the supremacy of British Protestantism over Irish catholic immigration, this is still prevalent in some parts of the UK. Later it morphed into anti west Indian and asian sentiment, demanding repatriation. Since 9/11 it has focused on Islam. The idiots rioting are basically racist thugs but the fascist manipulators behind the scenes want an authoritarian regime with minimal individual rights, strong policing, no tolerance of alternative lifestyles, state worship, low public spending, a skeletal health service and benefits system and minimal taxation for the rich. Similar to Russia. The irony is that the rioters are probably on benefits and will be far worse off under a far right government, but they're too dumb to realise that
In the UK there has been rapid massive immigration from Africa and South Asia.. Most of them are Muslims, there are ghettos in many large cities, of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis and Muslims from Africa and the Middle East. They don't speak English, mostly on benefits have no interest in integrating at all. They wear traditional clothing from their homelands and are inching towards having sharia law here. They get housing and other benefits due to the taxes from British people who have struggled financially. Preferential treatment at the expense of the existing population.
There has also been 1000s of young men coming across the English Channel who get to stay in high end hotels with every expense paid for by the taxpayers. While many communities from post industrial areas are struggling financially, but having to pay for them. Unfortunately the left wing regard these people as refugees fleeing from war torn France (joke). They all get preferential treatment above the existing population. Because people complain they are considered Far Right.
The policing is two tiered, violent tactics against the existing population, mainly white, while Muslim and Black get soft policing. Yet again preferential. The new Labour government is very pro migrant and ethnics. Anyone not is Far Right. Many more issues but those are the basics.
Traditionally _"far-right"_ has been synonymous with fascism and other forms of ethno-nationalism. I think there is an argument that extreme religious nationalism could also be considered _"far-right"._ But the definition seems to be getting diluted to describe any form of nationalism, making it rather meaningless.

I think he made quite a reasonable distinction between thuggish rioters, and people who are protesting with arguably legitimate concerns about two-tier policing and a lack of transparency from institutions.
Two tier policing is real and it appears inequitable. However there are justifiable historic and cultural reasons for this, which goes back decades. Granted it's not fair, but for the police to now start tackling armed Muslims would be folly and could leads to a civil war.

Hmm... I suspect the following is going to be unthinkingly pilloried as most people are incapable of rational thought, instead substituting imposed fashion.
Let's make something clear - violence is bad, intolerance is bad. Whatever is going on is to be roundly condemned, but let's consider the seeds of this unrest for the future:
-If you live in a society where the vast majority of people have (for want of a better phrase) 'traditional national values', but are continually threatened with 'you must accept', 'you must allow even in your own home and family', 'you must become', without any recognition that their (vast majority) lives are the 'norm' and so 'more valid', this is what inevitably happens.
-Societies are like a pendulum, where majority views and lifestyles are the default centre. Swing that pendulum too far in one direction and it will swing hard in the other and harm us all.
-I would suggest rather than the usual pseudo-intelligentsia 'fashionable forced acceptance' that only breeds anger and fear in the 'existing majority', then fear and loathing in 'minorities' such 'intellectuals' claim to support, because of 'unreasonable expectation'... It would be much better to promote 'Tolerance' in the majority and 'When in Rome...' for minorities who 'don't fit' or are 'new arrivals'.
Yes... a 'far right leader' could indeed rise in Brittan, to the downfall of us all. But not because people are 'bad' or 'becoming more right wing'. But because of the rise of unreasonably 'left wing' demands among our loudest and most bigoted voices, inevitably leading to unreasonable expectation and from there such compensatory reactions.
