Same with me. What I appreciate the most with Sam is that every performance is treated with the utmost respect and focusing on positives where those can be found. If things didn't work out great we get an explanation why and whether it really mattered to the overall performance or not. This gives hope to everyone who wants to sing. A voice teacher is supposed to be able to analyze how to improve a singer and inspire them to believe they can actually improve. Sam is an expert in just that. I would surely have picked a person like him if I wanted to learn how to sing. :)
This overly sliced and diced analysis annoys me. I don't have the musical expertise that Sam has, but I have tremendous sensitivity for music. I am a great barometer for que quality of a performance. I measure a performance like a barometer measures temperature and humidity. It is the way it hits me, the "goosebump factor" and that is through the roof with this girl. The temperature is 100 degrees celsius and the himidity is 100%. I never get it wrong in these contests, when I get the goosebumps the contestant either wins the competition or goes really far. Angelina is amazing. I look at the performance in the round rather than dissecting, and that, to my mind, is how you should appreciate a performance rather than nitpicking it.

She had just turned eight when she won Norway Got Talent, and she performed on stage in front of thousands of people at that age. Her voice and technique has evolved tremendously since then. She has gone from singing primarily jazz to singing a lot of styles (though the jazz colours her other styles as well), and mastered everything so far. Her family has kept her career at a low burn so far to give her an almost normal childhood. I have no worries whatsoever about her adopting while her vocals mature, just looking forward to it. Her foundation is so solid and her singing so natural. There are songs on UA-cam where she is touching the edges of her current ability, like the deep tones in 'A million years ago' or the belting in 'I have nothing', but those are still good performances. Sam, thank you for your insightful reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are a true professional who understands the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. As a retired music educator and an old-school jazzer, I hold Ella Fitzgerald as the gold standard for embellishments, riffs, runs, whatever you want to call them. She would not only emulate the improvisation of the great instrumentalists of her day, she created her own style that set her apart from everyone else. She always stayed within the changes of the music and never did too much or too little, just the right amount. So many of today's singers do "vocal gymnastics" without really understanding the musicality that is required to be artistic. Through training and sheer innate ability, Angelina "gets it" and we, her audience, are immensely fortunate to listen to her artistry. I like to think of her as the Barbra Streisand of the 21st century. Not because their voices are alike, but because Angelina will be as much or more of a superstar as Barbra was in her prime.

Her own songs (and we have had but a tiny introduction, i.e. SHIELD - WHAT IS LIFE - OSLO, indicate clearly that as she matures Angelina will bring a whole new concept of singing to the world.
You have not seen enough of her yet to know this, but you are looking at the Tiger Woods of singing. She has been singing at pro level since she was 7 years old. She has covered over a hundred songs, from over 60 artists. Everything from old classic jazz to modern pop. She can adjust her voice and singing style to every song she sings. This is a girl that Quincy Jones referred to as the next "One" when he heard her sing. I really hope to see you do more analysis of some of her other work, because this is an artist that you just can't absorb with one sample.
@@RustyShacklefordChannel I'd like to ask, how can You organize her videos in chronological order? Because if I look at the list now, I see a completely different order. THX
You should listen to her at 7-9yo singing "Summertime" or "I Put a Spell on You" or from when she was older at 12 or 13yo "Born to Die" or "A Million Years Ago". She has such a unique voice and a natural talent.
I love the way you analyze every videos, it's really clear so I try to do it myself. I also love the humour you use through the editing! And bonjour from France!
When i discovered you i recommended Angelina to you. She has evolved and developed in the years she's been working. Thank you for your informative analysis. Please listen to any of Angelina's songs.
Most artists play on instruments, but some artists play on your body and soul. Angelina plays directly on your heart string and spine, such a rare talent and skill!
I also found myself returning to the word "unique" to describe Angelina. She doesn't sound overtly "like" another singer throughout her presentation. That said, some of her vibrato moments are stunningly reminiscent of Billie Holiday.
She really had a beautiful performance. It was such a haunting version of the song and I was captivated by it. I hope she has a career that flourishes. I’m not usually the biggest fan of these more breathy voices and tones, but it was incredible, and what a bold song choice too!
Don’t worry, she has no issues. She can belt with the best of them, that’s not what this was about. I love that she surprises everyone continually. She isn’t concerned about anything, never gets nervous. Listen to her other stuff you’ll see she has multiple styles, goes very low or very high, incredible range. She incredible. Some feel like they have to find something wrong, it’s enjoyable to hear her always, getting too technical on every individual piece eliminates the joy of her effortless performance. Just my opinion, been part of music all my life, and she is special!
Sam reacting to Angelina: "I just want to make sure....... It's stylized...... Larynx" Everyone else reacting Angelina: "Wow" Thank you for reacting to this Sam! I actually thought of you as I was watching this myself for the first time. I appreciate Her performance more knowing more about the work that had to go into it. 😀
Sam, it's evident you haven't seen much of this phenomenal girl. She can change her vocals to whatever she wants. She doesn't need a vocal teacher. LOL! Go listen to I Put A Spell On You. Then Born To Die and keep going. Then there's a country song, Welcome To My World. Love Me Tender. So many genres. You haven't even scratched the surface. There's no flaws in her voice. She controls.
@Sam Johnson I really needed to hear what you were talking about at the end. I grew up singing professionally and as I hit 40, I’ve been disappointed and struggling to “sound like myself” when I was 20. Knowing that I need to just relax and work with my current instrument is freeing. There’s still a little bit of grief associated with having to let go of how good I sounded back then, but I just want to move on and sound good with my current voice.
And the best part of Angelina......she probably thought nothing of what you said in her presentation to us, she sings from the heart not the cerebellum.
i don't know much about singing it might seem silly but they way she slightly cuts end of " never been born at all " to take a breath for the run up to the big note - 4:44 she does it so smoothly, one barely notices the breath she pulls in. she is so relaxed and comfortable. like a good magician the audience doesn't realize when a prep is being employed to help the performer get to the astonishing part.
Sam, the beginning is epic!! That legit made me LOL!! And OMG, the Illuminati!! Your technical problems make everything just that much more interesting! Your analysis is great as always! Keep them coming! ❤️
Yea, I'd say this girl knows more about vocals then this Sam guy. LOL! She's doing with her voice what she chooses to do. All her different song styles prove that. This guy needs schooled.
First video I've ever watched of Sam. This is by far the most educational analysis from a voice teacher. Thank you Sam, totally subbed and have notifications turned on!
Someone else mentioned that they would like to hear your thoughts on the black and white video of "I Put A Spell On You", when she was 9. I would find that interesting also. And... to her "I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston Tribute)" where she belts out some high notes.
I am amazed by how you can technically break down this performance, apply a lot of "what ifs" and ignore the emotions she creates in her audience. There are so many goosebump moments that pass by your analysis. BTW,this is her arrangement so I think she knows more about what she is doing than you give her credit for.
When you get so technical and miss the whole feeling of the song, you lose credibility. It’s the whole purpose for music....not the mechanical clanging you make music out to be...dumb head.
A small observation for those who want Sam to do another reaction video of Angelina. From checking into his channel you'll find he doesn't do a lot of repeat reactions to most artists. I only briefly when back to see, but I did find 2 artist where he did another reaction to Lizzo and Billie Eilish. Maybe his Patreon account will be the way. I don't expect another soon. But in saying that, I thought his reaction to Angelina was fantastic and is what you would expect from a true vocal teacher. Very detailed.
i really enjoyed your professional reaction and explanatory break down on a artist on their performance. this god's gifted child star sings so beautiful that just capture's your heart and soul. she is very unique. i think we're looking at the new and first QUEEN OF MUSIC. she is our ENTERTAINER of tomorrow.
It is so refreshing to listen to a reactor who knows perfectly whay he is talking about. The numbers of subscribers and of comments speak by themselves. I am at 4:21 now and i hope some viewers will not criticize him, like some did for D. Marc Reynolds, for talking too much. It is his video, not Angelina s. His purpose is to analyse the singer s overall performance, voice skills, presence on the stage, etc. There you go: her uniqueness, comes from the tone of her voice. That is exactly what we wanted to hear from Sam: what is the main reason that can explain her attractiveness. We get, here, one element of her immense success, even though she did not launch her career yet. She is authentic, super stylish, at 6:18. To conclude, mention of her vocal fry, onset, breathy sound and breath control. I never regretted to be one of his subscribers; Sam never disappoints. I describe him as a SUPER REACTOR and the BEST VOCAL COACH on the Tube!
This is AGT Champions. Angelina is from Norway(: She won Norway’s Got Talent in 2014. Mostly she sings in a jazzy tone, would recommend other songs from her as well.
Sam, your "style" is apparent and hopefully helpful to people who want to understand all the intricacies involved in creating a technical and inviting singing voice. And, you brought up several negative possibilities during Angelina's rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody which I believe were badly placed because you were listening to a flawless performance, one that could be described as a Masterpiece! Sam, do you assume that most viewers have already seen this and have been moved by her performance before your analysis? And finally, Sam, tell me if you replayed this performance by Angelina privately to fully enjoy what she created (she arranged the song). Most of us have shed a tear listening to her and the only question for all of us is what part of the song did you start welling up. No offense, Sam, but I'm just one of many millions of Angelina fans from around the globe who have "already" discovered her and think the world of her and like two reactors have commented: "Wow! I just got goose bumps going up and down my arms and I can't explain it!" Or, "She made me cry, she made me smile and I don't know, eh - it's her voice! It reaches into you and touches your heart!"
Then listen to The Fairy Voice Mother react. She goes to technique, is moved to tears and then returns to analisis. Sam is always analitical no matter the emotion , its his dedication. No worries, switch it up. Everyone does their thing. Sam supports bad singers who are laughed at in talent shows saying they could be helped and showing compassion. That is the Sam I “ fell in love with” everyone has their gift.
This was Angelina's OWN arrangement of a song she knew Simon loved, with an acapella intro, which he also loves. Angelina's tone is from her jazz foundation, which won Norway's got Talent in 2014. She has signed with Republic, and has already sung for countless Children's Chariites, at Quincy Jones' 85th, The Nobel Prize concert, before 40,000 in Japan, invited by Alan Walker to his his two most popular songs at a concert in Norway.... Do some studying. You'll learn some things, I bet.
You need to listen to some of her other stuff, you would see that she can belt them out with the best of them. Actually, let me rephrase that, she can belt them out better than the best of them.
I love Angelina but I just do NOT see why people are so carzy about this performance of her, Put a spell on you. she has a lot better songs out there imo. but to each their own I guess. I know I am in the extreme minority here :P
Jimmyw I wasn’t very enthusiastic first time I heard it, even if I think I was the first suggesting that particular song to her. But after hearing it more, I started to love it more and more..
@@Jimmywinkel Angelina has surely done better songs than "I Put A Spell On You". However, this is the song that has attracted a lot of new fans for her. It's like a door opener to the world of Angelina. Quite a few reactors move on from "I Put A Spell On You" into other great songs from Angelina and become ever bigger fans then. I think the reason why many people recommend this song is because it's so unexpected a 9 year old girl could sound like Screamin' Jay Hawkins. You hear the very powerful "engine" she has even though it's still not completely trimmed for max performance. Having said that I agree with you that "I Put A Spell On You" might not be the best song to introduce new people to the world of Angelina. Either you love it or you don't. If you are in the latter group you might miss out of a lot of other great performances you would have loved. Personally I think "Feeling Good" should be the song reactors should first be introduced to. It truly shows what Angelina is capable of. I prefer the version she did for TV2 when she was 10 years old compared to the version she did when she was 9. This is the one I think is best: ua-cam.com/video/p8kAL-sGJx8/v-deo.html This is the other performance: ua-cam.com/video/7HaMvkflBAo/v-deo.html
I was in awe when I heard most of her cover since she was 7 years old. I think she is a re encarnation of young artist that passed at a young age and also Jazz musicians of the past. I am a fan and will continue to follow her. Watched her Born to Die and Mllion Years Ago. Amazing!
When hearing Angelina I think of ballet. Ballet is about making really difficult movement look easy. Angelina is making difficult singing look easy and relaxed. But I believe it is both because she is really technical and pitch perfect, but also because she is in the zone, she sees herself as a medium for the song, she IS the song. That makes her in the zone which has a relaxing and emotional effect on the audience.
I love the Intro song Sam. Cute and Catchy. I saw this performance on AGT Pros, and was drawn in by her unique voice. I agree with you that her voice is warm and unique. She has talent beyond her years I think, great control. Ive looked into her other songs on UA-cam, and she definitely can have a big music career if she chooses to.
Angelina Jordan is also known for ruining common senses and logic. So when she's messing your "should be this" and "should be that" and still sounds great it's a normal thing to her.,😉
Thank you Sam for you insight and expertise...I do have a question for you...If Angelina, at her young age, continues to cover songs that requires a super loud belting, as she did in covering Whitney Houston's ' I have nothing '...will it hurt her vocal cords in the long run? ..And if doesn't, will it still alter her voice in some ways that will affect her singing negatively?..
Thank you for reacting to Angelina. She need and deserve more publicity. Her latest coversong came out 2 days ago, and it is BRILLIANT. Adele-All i ask. @

Awwww I loved the song! Saaam Jooohnson.
I’ve been waiting for this 👏🏻👏🏻
Sam: So I finally clean the laptop?
Sam's fans: yes
Sam: But at what cost?
*insert Sam fading in and out of reality for a solid minute or two
is this funny?or just trying to like-hunt?
You have not seen enough of her yet to know this, but you are looking at the Tiger Woods of singing. She has been singing at pro level since she was 7 years old. She has covered over a hundred songs, from over 60 artists. Everything from old classic jazz to modern pop. She can adjust her voice and singing style to every song she sings. This is a girl that Quincy Jones referred to as the next "One" when he heard her sing. I really hope to see you do more analysis of some of her other work, because this is an artist that you just can't absorb with one sample.
She sang way before she was 7... 😊
@@FrkHjelen yes, she actually did a recognizable whitney at 1.5 years... and I imagine there hasn't been a single day of not singing since ;)
@@FrkHjelen I think you're trying to convince the wrong person :D Just check Rusty's youtube chanel ;)
@@uncle_matula yes, I will in no way claim to be impartial here ;)
@@RustyShacklefordChannel I'd like to ask, how can You organize her videos in chronological order? Because if I look at the list now, I see a completely different order. THX
You should listen to her at 7-9yo singing "Summertime" or "I Put a Spell on You" or from when she was older at 12 or 13yo "Born to Die" or "A Million Years Ago". She has such a unique voice and a natural talent.
Her talent: she gives meanings to the words
Thank you for reacting to Angelina Jordan. She is just an amazing young singer.
“She sounds great.” - he says.
Understatement.
I believe that AJ with what she is able to do vocally is now the best singer currently she back catalogue for examples from different genre's
She really had a beautiful performance. It was such a haunting version of the song and I was captivated by it. I hope she has a career that flourishes. I’m not usually the biggest fan of these more breathy voices and tones, but it was incredible, and what a bold song choice too!
She’s the best vocalist I’ve ever heard!
Her voice is like Amy Winehouse meets Shakira meets Ariana Grande meets Duffy.
Meets Lana Del Rey meets Norah Jones meets Adele.
Their voices meet Angelinas...LOL...
Amy and Norah. (this thing with Ariana was just disrespectful)
She can belt but chooses not too for this one. I love it.
I get Norah Jones every time I hear this.
Agreed and i loooove norah jones!!
I agree 100%, I was thinking the same thing when I heard her!!
I was just thinking this when I came across your comment!!
Yes dont know why played in my head everytime she sang
Indeed. I also hear some Adele and Lana Del Rey. Very unique voice.
Larynx"
Everyone else reacting Angelina: "Wow"
Thank you for reacting to this Sam! I actually thought of you as I was watching this myself for the first time. I appreciate Her performance more knowing more about the work that had to go into it. 😀
lol.....yea....let her take you on the journey
That's b/c he's not done his research. He has no idea she's been singing this way since she was 3.
Sam I'm enjoying your humor filming. Angelina has a great unique voice.
Ten minutes in thinking 'Wow, she must be good! Sam hasn't mentioned her jaw once!.... Aaaaaannnnd there it is. 😆
When you inserted the Photo...I CAN NOT 🤣🤣🤣
She reminds me of Norah Jones. She has that beautiful color and soothing texture to her voice which is so inviting 😍😍😍
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS
first perfomance i saw of her she was 8 years old
it blew me away
Her voice is VERY similar to Norah Jones, daughter of the late great Ravi Shankar, RIP... Deliciously enchanting.
I remember her from when she sang Fly Me To The Moon, that was sooo good and she was just a little girl back then
@Sam Johnson I really needed to hear what you were talking about at the end.
Love how much you can appreciate her^^
That intro song slaps, I rewinded the video twice just to hear it properly 😂
You have to listen to a lot of her music. She goes really low and her range is great. She sings differently with each song.
And the best part of Angelina......she probably thought nothing of what you said in her presentation to us, she sings from the heart not the cerebellum.
i don't know much about singing
it might seem silly but they way she slightly cuts end of " never been born at all " to take a breath for the run up to the big note - 4:44 she does it so smoothly, one barely notices the breath she pulls in. she is so relaxed and comfortable. like a good magician the audience doesn't realize when a prep is being employed to help the performer get to the astonishing part.
Sam, the beginning is epic!! That legit made me LOL!! And OMG, the Illuminati!! Your technical problems make everything just that much more interesting! Your analysis is great as always! Keep them coming! ❤️
A unique voice. So cool. Not the same old things
I like that she has the ability to send waves of chills through my body over and over. 😍
"that's an interesting voice"....understatement of the year.
I love it, roddiener!
Yea, I'd say this girl knows more about vocals then this Sam guy. LOL! She's doing with her voice what she chooses to do. All her different song styles prove that. This guy needs schooled.
@@judybrannen he used like 14000 words when 1 would have sufficed......Wow!
@@judybrannen
He should be humiliated if he listens to any other songs by her.
He will be well-schooled.
@@dadams9158 , I love Song For A, written just for her. It's beautiful.
First video I've ever watched of Sam. This is by far the most educational analysis from a voice teacher. Thank you Sam, totally subbed and have notifications turned on!
Please react to her Norway’s got talent performance from when she was 6-7 years old
I love how you literally shake you head as if in “agreement” or understanding throughout her performance!👍🏼
LOL the auto focus bits and the random geeky photo just made this video super classy 😆
Is it bad that the technical difficulties were freaking hilarious and his humor with it made the video for me
Someone else mentioned that they would like to hear your thoughts on the black and white video of "I Put A Spell On You", when she was 9. I would find that interesting also. And... to her "I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston Tribute)" where she belts out some high notes.
Check out her "Put a Spell on You" when she was just 9 y/o - Technically Her most impressive song
I am amazed by how you can technically break down this performance, apply a lot of "what ifs" and ignore the emotions she creates in her audience. There are so many goosebump moments that pass by your analysis. BTW,this is her arrangement so I think she knows more about what she is doing than you give her credit for.
YES
I love how technique is important to you but I also love how you don't give a f*ck about it when the singer can make the audience feel emotional.
thanks he is an ass
Now PLEASE react to her cover of i put a spell on you XDDDD
This is AGT Champions. Angelina is from Norway(: She won Norway’s Got Talent in 2014. Mostly she sings in a jazzy tone, would recommend other songs from her as well.
Great breakdown! Thanks!
I'd love to see your analysis of one of the songs from when she was younger like Gloomy Sunday, Back to Black, or I Put a Spell on You.
Finally!! I've been waiting for this one!! Thanks!! Now, go for Angelina Jordan doing PUT A SPELL ON YOU (black and white video)
Mikaela, you’re a genius. ❤️❤️
She drops her jaw and gives a jaw dropping performance.
-cleans laptop while someone sings an intro.
Me: productive.
oh wow one like : )
Difficult to explain magic.
More difficult to explain god given talent.
100% agree!
This video somehow radiates both lawful good and chaotic neutral energy
This was Angelina's OWN arrangement of a song she knew Simon loved, with an acapella intro, which he also loves. Angelina's tone is from her jazz foundation, which won Norway's got Talent in 2014. She has signed with Republic, and has already sung for countless Children's Chariites, at Quincy Jones' 85th, The Nobel Prize concert, before 40,000 in Japan, invited by Alan Walker to his his two most popular songs at a concert in Norway.... Do some studying. You'll learn some things, I bet.
It's been developing since she was 7. She will figure it out? Her fans are now in the millions.
Cleaning your Mac at the beginning was so funny 😂
You need to listen to some of her other stuff, you would see that she can belt them out with the best of them. Actually, let me rephrase that, she can belt them out better than the best of them.
Could you react to Angelina Jordan , I put A Spell On You? Bl/Wt video, she was 9.
This is the one I think is best:

@@Jimmywinkel Yes, Jimmyw! You are so...perceptive!
@@Jimmywinkel DUDE ... YOU ARE JUST JEALOUS ...
THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS WERE CRAZY AND IMPRESSED ABOUT HER PERFORMANCE.
Nice reaction. Angelina doesn't do stress and it is easy and effortless for her. Would love to see you do more of her. Thank you.
Every time I relisten to her singing this song I cry tears of pleasure. Her singing reminded me of the old school R&B.
Angelina Jordan is also known for ruining common senses and logic. So when she's messing your "should be this" and "should be that" and still sounds great it's a normal thing to her.,😉
well said.
That's what a jazz background does to ya. Learn the rules then break them!
At 8:03 that was deep. Also how you say “warmth” so cute
Been waiting for your reactions for a long time. Always learn alot from you. Thank you.
Thank you for reacting to Angelina. She need and deserve more publicity. Her latest coversong came out 2 days ago, and it is BRILLIANT. Adele-All i ask. @
