DC couldn't have gone corpo, again, at the worst time possible.
Ever since they started dusting off the archive, it has been the best they have ever been in a long time.
I know the year has just started but, you can definitely feel the tension in the air with this.
I can see the DC “NBA capsule” being inspired by the 2001 NBA FINALS match up Lakers VS 76ers and I think that’s when the Kalis Truth was released if I’m not mistaken!

I see DC Shoes becoming what Adio shoes became. They have the shoes but no more team riders.
WIth them selling Etnies at WalMart I don’t think these brands can ever bounce back. I honestly just wish they would sell them all at WalMart that way if someone wants them at least they could get them cheap but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a brand bounce back from WalMart status.
Vans was able to bounce back and they still sell at Payless and stores like that.

Etnies is only selling very cheap models at Walmart. You won't see Estrelllas there.
if they could just keep in stock the williams og and colorways of lynx og instead of the trash they keep putting on thats not pro models , shanahan the only good shoe thats not a reissue
For me, the biggest mistake was letting DC be brought by quicksilver. After that, the shoes weren't the same and now that a big multi corporation company has brought it, i have fears for where dc is going
I agree. A lot of people liked that second iteration of the super team (Kremer, Mike Mo, Taylor, Evan, Nyjah, etc.), but I could never get into it. I liked most of the skaters, but I absolutely hated the shoes. I’m not a Vulc fan to show my bias, but even when I had to choose, there were other companies making much better shoes.
I have been excited with some of the releases over the last couple of years. Completely understand why they let people go (especially in this tanking economy) and have been excited about the perceived route they’ve been going with creating an idea around that iconic Philadelphia scene. Those skaters they have on the team from out there are amazing.
I really hope they don’t fuck up what they have left.
There was some fairly recent (5+ years ago) interview of Ken Block talking about them selling the company to Quiksilver. Ken stated although they were making a good amount of money they were taking out very very large amounts of credit - in the millions.
Remember those huge ass 300 page Transworld Magazine skate shoe catalogs in the 90s and 00s.. I mean skate magazines? Think about the huge amount of models every skate shoe company was putting out during the late 90s and early 00s it makes sense why Damon, Ken, etc sold. Even though they were making a LOT of money they were investing in a ton of different tooling for all those amazing different models/soles. They had their own factory in Korea that just made DC, and a full website dedicated to it. That's a TON of overhead they operated with, it sucks to look back on it but it made sense. They were a bunch of young skaters and with all the corporate backing and investment it made sense for them to sell to Quiksilver. The market was changing sadly to generic ass vulc and cupsoles, and designers of the classics like Sung Choi (Lynx OG) went with Caroll to Lakai.
If there's some place to send hate twords its Authentic Brands and Jamie Salter, they're a big conglomorate who bought out DC. Danny Way tried to but couldn't. Just look at their portfolio of brands they own.... Reebok, Vision Streetwear, Volcom, Eddie Bauer, and a lot of other brands who have been sold multiple times and have lost a lot of money.
Doesn't look good for DC, it was a good 6 year run where we got a bunch of our nostolgia back and the best styles too. Thank John Shanahan, Jahmir Brown, Kevin Bilyeu, Aleka Lang, Adilson Pedro, and even Tiago. These guys along with the skaters from Soletech brought the 90s goldenera back.
@@ponmlk What is a "vulc generic cupsole". vulcs and cupsoles are different. Maybe you just meant vulcs, that makes sense. Seemed like everybody was skating generic vulcs for awhile and many still do.
@@ponmlk Also, not really right on ABG. They purchased DC at the same time as they purchased those other companies, so pointing to their record of ownership of those brands makes no sense. Boardriders Inc formerly owned DC, Element, Reebok, Billabong, Quiksilver etc. ABG bought Boardriders. There's levels within levels of corporate ownership. Also, are people really saying that DC has been bad since 2004, when they were bought by Quiksilver - insinuating all those early super puffed out shoes were their peak? Wow uh....can't agree with that take
@@FloatDown What the fuck are you talking about? You comment like a new visitor to this channel, it shows. I've always refered to the post 2004'ish era as a vulc and generic cupsole era, it was. The soles in that era for almost every company were generic vulcs and generic cupsoles same'ish soles compared to the COUNTLESS bespoke soles and uppers that DC, Soletech (es, etnies, emerica, 32, since you're obviously fuckin' slow LOL), dvs, adio, lakai, genetic, reef, kastel, axion, c1rca, supra, etc put out during the "golden era" of skate shoes STARTING mid to late 90s.
I KNOW when they (Boardriders) purchased DC. I know that Authentic purchased Boardriders You lost all credibility when you just stated they (Boardriders)owned Reebok which they never did. You even edited your comment and still fucked up LOL. My point which went over your thick head is that THEY (ABG) have bought all failed brands and that ABG is a BIG company that buys bankrupt and failed brands and cleans house, which they obviously did kicking out more than half the team and are in the process of cleaning out management and even their social media team. DC got bad when they started chasing trends during the tight pants generic vulc generic cupsole era, thats obvious culminating in 2015. That take is pretty universal that DC has been bad post 2004 when they went copied and chased trends, even the guys who were in "core" skateboarding have said that see 9 clubs DC Williams highlights video. Holy shit bro, swing and a miss.
all the new Kalis look like ass to me and he’s been one of my favorite skaters for like 25 years. the only dc i would buy at this point is kalis og or truth, lynx or maybe if they use the clocker sole on something less expensive than the shanahan. fuck just give us a clocker it’s not too much to ask
Shanahans sometimes hit big discounts after a bit. Saw some going for like 70 a while back

I like the look of the new Kalis shoe as well, the Kalynx Zero only looks good if the sole colour matches the upper so I’ll definitely get the black/gum version.
In terms of the company itself I agree it’s a dreadful move dropping Aleka Lang and Shaun Paul as well but keeping hold of Bilyeu, Shanahan, Brown, Cepeda, Clarke and Kalis gives me hope.
Also, the JS1 should never go out of production!

Idk i have mixed feeling about the DC basketball collab. I think its cool cause it kinda correlates to skate shoe era where most skate shoes originated from basketball shoes that where modified for skating like Dunks turning into SB, NB 480 BB turning into a skate shoe , converse and etc just an example. So i think they do correlate just may not be everyones cup of tea.
So Lucien is the creative director at DC as well as being a team rider with that contract he last signed but for how long who knows? Fingers crossed though Kalis's last contract was a few year deal and he stays locked in, Should be a interesting ride for DC SHOES!

After some research, from what I can tell, ABG isn't even currently in control of the companies formerly owned by Boardriders (like DC), so postulating what you're seeing now is a result of the new management doesn't seem correct. They made a binding offer which was accepted in April of 2023 but the deal is not completed yet. BTW some of the owners of ABG include Shaq and David Beckham
I'd pose an alternative theory that DC is currently in a limbo where it knows new management is incoming and they are just dropping some leftovers/quickies to tide them over

Just got my first pair of OG Lynx's since 2002 and I'm loving them. Skating better than I have in a while. If they just made more OG stuff, they'd get nonstop business from me.

DC had a good thing going on when they were retro-ing the old joints. I bought two pair of OG Lynx in 2020 for $40 a pair thinking they weren’t going to be discontinued. Had I known they were a limited release I would have bought at least 6 when they were going dumb cheap. I got one pair left and one pair of Truth OG and after that my fat sole stash is gone. Those joints are so much better than the thin ass feel the ground shoes everyone makes. DC please bring back the chunky shit. It works. It’s for skateboarding.

Are Lynx Zero's from before or after the buyout? Aside from them being a bit narrow, and preferring a less-puffy tongue, I love mine. Totally agree on the basketball crossover stuff. I love basketball but I am not a basketball player and basketball is a mainstream sport. But I feel the same way about Nike and Adidas making skate shoes. I will never ever buy either one. Nike is one of the most environmentally destructive companies on the planet. Adidas isn't far behind.

is that getting kicked off? i dont think so, no one wanted any of that shit to happen but the up top took all the money away, they basically told everyone we have no idea whats going on, no one is off but we cant pay anymore, you can wait it out or if you got any oppurtunity take it, there is no bad person at dc like these guys are kicked off! they were told no one can get a contract renewed and these dudes need money so they went where ever would take them.

From Philly know all the DC guys, bilyeus contracts ending by the end of the year, Shannahan has one more year left of his, everyone else’s contracts are also ending. They’re getting rid of the team completely, and focusing more on snowboarding . The skate team and everything is gonna be no more in a year .

The day they started making them overseas and stocking them in Pacific Sunwear and Zumiez they turned to Total garbage they felt like sticking your foot in a piece of hard plastic shaped like a shoe with a completely flat sole with zero arch support
DC was good back in the 90’s. Had tons of Howard 1’s and Rudy Johnson’s 2 snd 3’s. But DC is not what it used to be. It’s pretty much done. IMO.
DC had a resurgence about three years ago. Obviously not to the effect of the 90s and early 00s . Now it does seem like it’s not looking good at all.
