@@old-fashionedmusic6606 From what I heard from a friend who was a big Eddie Lang fan, he supposedly used very heavy gauge strings on his L5. I don't know on what authority he knows this to be true, but that's what I've been told. Gotta figure if you were playing in say Paul Whiteman's orchestra, you'd have a good bit of volume competition with horns, etc. Very nice guitar work on your part !
@@markmccornack7983 yeah that should be true, according what I read in my guitar career. The clue is the strings sold in that era. Very heavy but most importantly even if the gauge Eddie used is extremely heavy compared with nowadays strings, his action and picks, how to hold it or his way of playing are more important.
One of your finest videos. Glad to see you back with a full screen. Excellent stage setting. Beautiful guitar, beautiful tune, beautifully played. Thank you from Southern Oregon USA.
My Grandfather, born in 1909 used to play April Kisses and taught it to me. It's possible that he met Eddie Lang. Grandad played banjo in Harold Arlen's band for a while as did Joe Venuti (violin) JV played a lot w/ Eddie Lang. I was touched ny the authenticity that you bring to this song. Thank you.
Thank you very much. I believe there are too many good stories buried like your grandfather’s to be heard to next generation. It is nearly impossible to know early jazz history in my country unless I read jazz history books written in English. Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti are my heros which are almost forgotten in today’s world. But without them, Jazz history can be diffenet. I respect them deeply and want to keep them alive for today’s world. 😊
@@old-fashionedmusic6606 Yuji-san. No. I just remember very little from when I was in Japan many years ago for a business workshop in Ebina. After the workshop, I went to Fuji-kyu Highland, and climbed Mt. Fuji. Beautiful country. I was a drummer in two (rock) bands, but always loved the sound and tones of guitars -both nylon (classical), and electric (archtops). I have one of each, and your videos (and with Hirofumi-san) are very nicely done. You both should make a CD, and get Yano-san to join.

This is sublime. Congratulations, sir.
A fine guitar.
If only Eddie could hear this too ... He would love your rendition just like the rest of us do!
I wanna meet him in person🤩And, wanna see his action and strings. Probably, that was so different from what we think the guitar should be!!!😅💦

Came back to watch again. You might consider playing more waltzes.
Yeah, waltz tune suits well with acoustic archtop guitars, I assume!
Nicely done. Who is the guitar Luthier ? thank you.
I believe SUMI.
Thanks for your comment!! Yeah, this is made by Sumi!!! Looks and sounds more vintage, although I had some L-5s including 16inch!!
@@old-fashionedmusic6606 Sumi ?
Made by Japanese Luthier, his name is Sumi. He is famous for mandolin at first.
@@old-fashionedmusic6606 thank you. Expensive instrument ?
What guitar is this?
Sumi L-5 replica made in Japan!!!
