    Dude, i've watched so many videos on how to play, but yours actually clicked for me.

    Thank you so much for this awesome video! I had a blast watching you play it, and you did give me a couple of pretty good ideas for fixes and such. You got a couple of rules details wrong but overall it was fantastic! It's funny you mentioned that it would be cool that magic properties had some sort of tags, I did precisely that with my previous game, Riftbreakers. Maybe I should do it here as well, yeah... I'll see if there's room for it in the tables.

    • @MisterWebb
      @MisterWebb 10 місяців тому +1

      Did you find room for those tags in the end?

    • @blackoathentertainment
      @blackoathentertainment 10 місяців тому +1

      @@MisterWebbI'm afraid not, it would have meant redoing the loot tables, adding pages, and splitting them across several pages, and I wasn't really willing to do that. I'm still thinking of an elegant way to implement them as future content.

    Great to see some gameplay on this game, seems very close to D100 dungeon, but with a darker theme, more of it and more interesting character progression

    Thanks for making this video! I watched it once, and I was ready to cancel my pledge, as the game feels a lot like D100 Dungeon. And I’m not a big fan of that game, it tends to feel more like D100 Bookkeeping to me. But then I watched the video again, and I felt there’s enough of a difference to give this a chance. This clearly has a lot more theme and flavor than D100 Dungeon, and the character progression and magic seem better as well. So to be honest I’m kind of looking forward to it now. Thanks again for the video 🙏

      Glad you decided to stay for the ride! I can really say that the only similarity it has with D100 Dungeon is that both use a D100 ruleset. I'm a huge fan of D100 Dungeon, but it's kind a bit too generic when it comes to its theme, and the character progression is somewhat limited. My main focus when designing Ker Nethalas was to have a strong focus on character development, with lots of options, have a cool random magic item generation system to get that fun Diablo feel, and to have a clearly defined, dark fantasy setting with lots of world-building. As an example, there are lore books (an idea that I might or might have not stolen from The Elder Scrolls series...) that you can find and read to learn about the ancient Vaelorian society and their practices.

      Glad it helped! Honestly I'm happy if my videos steers someone AWAY from a game they wouldn't like/need, but helping find things they DO like obviously feels better ^_^
      I agree about the similarities to d100 Dungeon, but also the differences. The interesting character options and distinct theming are obviously huge!

      Fun fact: “bookkeeping” is the only word in the English language with three consecutive double letters

    • @markstanley4836
      @markstanley4836 10 місяців тому +2

      Looking into this post-kickstarter. Can you offer your thoughts on the bookkeeping versus the decision making, and in general how it compares to d100? I struggled to enjoy d100 because of the bookkeeping and the lack of choices. Although this looks better than d100, it's also not free... Can you predict whether I will have similar complaints?

    • @blackoathentertainment
      @blackoathentertainment 10 місяців тому

      @@markstanley4836 the video should give you a good idea of how the game plays. It's a dungeon crawler so of course it has similarities to D100 Dungeon (a game I absolutely adore, by the way), but Ker Nethalas has a more detailed combat, more interesting enemies, and a very fun random magic item generation system. There's some tracking to do (light, food, crafting materials), but I think that's a staple in the genre and if you don't enjoy that then it's probably an issue with this sort of gamestyle.

    if you roll under your attack skill
    and the enemy defends and rolls below their defensive skill
    + defense roll of enmy > your attack roll = enemy rolls from defensive table
    always
    to sum it all up:
    you only score a hit if:
    you score a critical hit (enemy has to do critical defsensive reaction to prevent the hit)
    you roll under attack skill; enemies rolls under their defense skill + enemy roll < your roll
    you roll under attack skill and anemy rolls over defensive skill

    It also reminds me of Dark Fort. All those dungeon generators have a familiar vibe.

    I've seen that usage die somewhere before and love it! I like the scaled damage, but not the number steps to do it.

    so about opening doors the book says the "Each failed attempt increases successive Athletics checks by 20". does this mean it gets easier each time you, try. and also that you didn't do that here?
