    You are a gift to the art community, and UA-cam. This is a great practice, and i wish some one taught me something like this sooner. Whether it's a charcoal, or graphite pencil, this helped me figure out what is the darkest the choice of media can get, and then work form there to create the value scale. Thank you so much!

    I don’t mind that there is no verbal instruction as watching the magic unfold is usually enough, however could you possibly explain some terms for beginners - for example ‘refine and lock with HB pencil’ and ‘edge control’ as not every member knows these unless you have a basics course that I haven’t been able to find yet?

    • @zinlimart
      @zinlimart  4 роки тому

      ‘lock with HB pencil’ : Vine charcoal is easily erased. So, HB pencil is used to hold the edge's positions.
      ‘edge control’ : blending, refining, detailing, softening, sharpening around edges.
      Thanks for watching.

      You can do this exercise with either one! I used a 2B pencil for starters as its less messy, but I think the real beauty of this exercise is that it shows that you should first find the darkest dark of the media you choose. Once you know the darkest dark, you are less likely to second guess if you think you can go any darker, and then build hand muscle memory on how much pressure to go extreme dark, or light. Good luck and have fun! I wish I saw this type of exercise way earlier in my art journey.
