This video is absolutely spot on in every detail. Thats the lens I would advise any videographer or photographer to buy first, I only go to 2.8 glass if im shooting natural light and need the extra stop in a wedding or similar. For how I shoot commercially, f4 is as open as I would like to go unless theres a specific artistic decision to incorporate bokeh into a scene or shot. Class video on my go to lens man 👏
All my ASMR videos are shot with it, except for the Christmas one and people DM me asking how did I shoot at f1.8 and still have loads in focus... because it was shot at f4 😅🤣😅
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Thinking of 16-35 or 20-70, but this classic seems way more versatile. Hope a Mark does not come out a month after I get one. lol
@@WarHorsesForVeterans of a mark ii does come out then the mark I would be far cheaper for you. The new lens they seem to be working on is a 24-70mm f2

The 24-105 f4 is such a beauty. The best kitlens out there, and to be honest the word "kitlens" is so wrong with this one! It's my most used lens. Verry happy about it!
Great video. May I know your thoughts with the recently released lenses from Sony competing against the Sony 24-105/4. The Sony FE 20-70/4G, and the twin 16-25 and 24-50 F2.8 G I own the 24/1.8, 35/1.4, 55/1.8 and the 85.14 and I am thinking I could use a zoom. Thank you.
I keep going back and forth in my head on this vs a 24-70 2.8 for film making outdoors... torn man. This makes more sense, especially as it has IS and extra reach
It is a tough one, I had considered those 35-150mm lenses but I'd miss being able to zoom out to 24 without having to change lenses to my Tamron 17-28mm.
Ive the Sigma Art 24-70 2.8 and unless I need the stop I always go with the 24-105 unless I need the light. It such a versatile lens. Photography and videography

I am trying to find a lens to take photos at theme parks in Orlando. Is this one versatile enough? For rides, characters, attractions, food… everything in there. Thank you, Mark!
@@MarkDuffyPhotographyAmazing. I think I will give it a try. The only downside is that if I decide to stay at night in the park, then I will probably need another one with a 1.8. Thank you for the response. I think I will give it a try.
@JheffMathis-i4v Depends what you want to shoot. If it's the park itself. Tripod, f16 long exposure, epic with all the lights and movement etc but if its people and 1/100th sec, yeah you'll need to bump up your ISO but Sony can handle it
@@MarkDuffyPhotography At night will probably be the characters during the parade and some rides. I think the ones I have no clue is how to shoot fireworks. I agree in theory, I bought mine as the Canon version served me well for years. But I’m not convinced, it’s just not up to it outside the centre of the frame. For shoots in a controlled environment where changing lenses is easy, I use use various primes and the Tamron 70-180, all stopped down for the most part of course.
I didnt like the Tamron 70-180 at all, I found it to be very soft and ended up going for Sony 70-200m. I've never had an issue with sharpness and it is my primary lens for commercial. My landscapes are shot on Tamron 17-28mm as I like to shoot around 20mm
@@MarkDuffyPhotography I’m the other way around. I used the Sony for a few paid jobs, but avoid doing so now, I use the Tamron without hesitation. I never put too much belief in the idea of sample variation, but perhaps there’s something to it. Either that or I’m ‘seeing things’!😀
I have and it's vertualy bolted to my A9ii, it's absultly ideal travel lense . Ps it used to bolted on my A7Riii. In the past also taken primes as a backup, but never used the primes.
Thank you. I’ve owned the 24-105 for both my Canon and now Sony systems. It’s the first lens I buy on a new system to test out to make sure I want to invest more in it. Would like a Mark II version though. Take care.
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Just concerned the lenses like the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 are bigger and heavier than II want. It ways more than my Sony 79-200/2.8;GM II.
Wondering the same, but I think there isn't. It's either a Sigma/Sony 24-70 F/2.8 or this lens. Tamron lenses aren't the sharpest out there, Sigma doesn't have the 28-105 range and lenses like 35-150 are not wide enough. Going on holidays and been wondering if I should buy this lens for my A7RV... But for 61MP it's not very sharp. Tough 1st world problems
@BOTG_Adventures the 24-105mm would suit you if you don't shoot any wider too often. It has a really decent close focusing. I use it loads for my product photography but I also have a macro lens if I need a macro shot which is only every so often
You cant bring forward that stabilisation as a useful feature on this lens. Lowest possible stabilisation avaliable. Does it even work together with tHE cameas IBIS or are they working against each other? ;-) Exept for that - its a great lens. My edge sharpness (on the left sides) is not very high though.
I'm not a videographer so the stabilisation works well for photography. I haven't tested against my 70-200mm f2.8ii but I can and see for how well it works for video
I was considering it or the their f1.4 but it looks like quite a big lens. Samyang were supposed to send out their 35-150mm for me to test out but that fell through for some reason
Really? I've never had that issue with mine. I love it for video, all of my ASMR reels are done with it and majority of my b-roll for reviews on UA-cam too
Quite a few people are disputing this. If it isn't anymore, it definitely was when I switched to Sony and hence why I bought it as it cost hardly anything extra with the camera.

Great lens. Highly underrated these days. I used it for a long time before replacing it with the 24-70 GM and now the 24-70 GM II.
I use it so often I haven't been able to justify getting the 24-70mm. Though those lenses have always been known for being really good
