Great guide. I know people love the WHM, but I love the complexity and buff management of the AST and am hoping for an AST guide. I have no problems crushing dungeons on AST, but have honestly not tried it in a raid.
To aspiring White Mages: Please don't be afraid to use Cure I. I've been WHM for two years now, and I can say that as long as you're very comfortable with WHM, Cure I will be a very good friend for keeping Tanks healed no matter how much damage they're soaking up. That Freecure for Cure II can be nice at times, and if you're in a pinch, Afflatus Solus will back you up pretty nicely. As well, it's always good to keep a regen on a Tank once they grab the enemy's attention. Doing a regen before a fight will likely give you the enmity.
I started playing less than a month ago, and granted Im only level 50 something, cure 1 is still my go-to. Still got a lot to learn and at my level, as long as Im keeping the party alive I think I'll be doing alright. Obviously get DPS where I can.
White Mage is the boss healer! I am trying to level all healers together but once I got ahold to Holy then the other healers just don't compare..... until I played my first raid. So White Mage is the dungeon destroyer and Scholar is the king of raids, with Astrologian as the Jack of all trades.
WHM is the healer carry in PUG raids. It makes what would usually be harsh AoE damage in Savage raids look like a complete joke. Honestly, in a static, you can probably get away with a single WHM in most of the current Eden Savage fights and just replace the co-healer with another DPS.
Unfortunately white mage has to much of it. Strong healing - check, strong mp recovery - check, strong dps - check. The problem is that other healers would need such things. Fot example. Astro's mp recovery sucks out of all healing but still he has nothing else them lucid dreaming. Or scholar. He need better healing on point and he he got is seraph. Not a fair exchange.
@@fallenintodarkness9702 I think that was true at the start of Shadowbringers, but now most endgame teams want AST and SCH since Diurnal is better than Nocturnal and they give raid buffs that is usually more favored right now and SCH, while I think they should do higher damage, they stand out because they synergize with AST and WHM while most teams have to pick either to take a WHM or an AST, so the tradeoff is WHM brings personal DPS while AST gives buffs right now. If they take personal power away from WHM it will be completely overshadowed by AST, and MP management isn't really a problem anymore for any of them unless you're spamming on SCH or not using lucid right. And also, I'm fine with certain jobs being stronger or weaker each expansion/patch, it's bound to happen, and WHM was the weakest in Stormblood, so they actually got tools that made them a strong pick, they don't overshadow AST or SCH anymore though. Like SMN and SAM are really the only crazy centralizing jobs right now from what I can tell.
PoM + Raise is also great if you have to get a party back up to prevent a wipe. Sometimes both tanks are down and I have them up in seconds with Swift + PoM + 2x Raise
this may be a weird question but when you raise do you click the party members name in the party list or are you supposed to click their body? and do you click them before or after you select raise. i feel like i always delay my raises because i try clicking their body and then the name in the list and i’m like?? is this going off as idk i’m new
@@kyundere7442 You can do either! You have to make sure that the member is "Targeted', this can be done by clicking the party member name, the body, Keyboard shortcut (F1, F2 etc) or if you're on PS4 like me, select the member from the party tray (up, down), then you can cast raise
About 5 minutes in and I would like to leave a remark on the fact that spellspeed effects the strength of your DoT and HoT ticks. That being said, it's not bad at all.
has anyone figured out a good spell speed # to shoot for? I bard and skill speed is the same, everyone keeps acting like you don't need it but it effects dot ticks.

I'm considering returning to XIV and maining White Mage once more. I've gotten pretty close to Heavensward and this might be just the job to get me there.
I’ve always played as a dps and I thought maybe it’s time for a change so I leveled AST with my squardon and after reaching 55 I thought it’s time to try with randoms, got sastasha hard in dury roulette and it was going very well and then we died twice at the first boss, ninja kept dying and eating aoes, i cried and left and said “sorry it’s my first time as a healer” as soon as somebody wrote “bruh” 😔 I think I’m traumatized
Honestly dear, it's practise, I get nervous doing something new. I reccomend not listening to people being negative, there's a learning curve with healing and it's just practise and patience. I reccomend asking for small pulls in dungeons. Make sure you put regen/shield on every 30 seconds (single regen stacks) and focus on healing. Then when you are comfortable begin using your cards, then you can try to dps. Plant your heavenly star in pulls and in bosses as much as possible. You got this
So silly question.. I've mained a whm on and off since launch.. And I can say I've never once used Cure3..I used to raid (birth of kids now makes it hard now)..and never had an issue.. Now in Shadowbringers I main a Samurai but I do wanna go back to my whm roots..I know you touched on our but is Cure3 even remotely worth it now
Yeah Medica2 or Plenary Indulgence+Afflatus Rapture is usually a better option than Cure3. Medica2 heals more overtime, has a larger range, and is cheaper than Cure3. Meanwhile Plenary Rapture is only 50 less potency than Cure3, has a larger range, and is free. Cure3 is only good if you need a lot of healing ASAP while everyone is stacked together like when Thunder God Cid reduces everyone's HP to 1 and everyone needs to get healed to full quickly to remove the Doom.
The entire game has changed a lot, as a returning player I was shocked that tanks are actually allowed to attack now (back in the day you were expected to just spam the ability Flash to gain aggro, actual attacks just couldn't keep up with pulls)
I've found that regen has another useful ability... helping provide a cushion for when you're paired with a Leroy Jenkins type tank who likes to pull the entire dungeon section and always seems to take off with a sprint leaving you to catch up and quickly heal them before they die and start blaming you. I've gotten into the habit of making sure my target is the tank and as soon as the encounter ends, I'm casting regen onto them and then high tailing them afterwards because those types of tanks always seem to get in over their heads.
Do you use mouse over macros for healing spells? From my years playing wow I would use shift modifiers for mouseover and ctrl modifiers for targeting self so you can always dps the target (disc priest)
atleast one lil hint, divine benison isnt used for its shield, u will mostly use it as ogcd heal with tetra. its always better to use DB as healing spell on cooldown before you touch your lillies. u can even use it directly after your Dia cast to remembering you u need to refresh Dia DoT.
i use it very much because of its shield :D dont underestimate its power...it might not be the best shield out there, but placing it on the main tank right before a TB has helped quite a bit with healing :D
@@Atrigraphy You actually do if the tank has 0 enmity on a mob. Everything in the game actually generates enmity, yes even just pressing aetherflow on SCH generates enmity.
So basically for endwalker is the same thing right ? Critical hit then Spell Speed or Determation even tho you use a lot heal spells often i didn't felt i had MP issues

I've been a SCH main for a year now, I know this because I'm nearing my 330th day subscribed. ...why can white mage do absolutely everything better than I can? No! I refuse! I cannot tolerate cure2, or straight shot, or fire1->fire3! The "proc" happens too far into the cast time for me to use it, I've already pressed cure1 again, it's too late!
I just got into FF14. My problem is deciding what job to main. I can’t make up my mind. I got a few jobs to 30. I like healing so I want to main White Mage. But when I see other jobs, I am like, I want to do that. Can’t focus.
I'm lvl 45 atm. Having basic knowledge of playing a healer in other MMOs healing was pretty easy up to lvl 30-40, but with every new spell it gets more interesting (and harder). Although i only have about half the spells, this guide is really great. I will bookmark it to watch again and again the higher i get. With that said, i have a little problem with regen. I quickly learned NOT to put it on the tank BEFORE the pull 😅 But it's often that i put it on him right after he aggroed the mobs, enemies are down, regen still up, and next mobs attack me. Or in bossfights when adds are spawning it's a problem to have regen on the tank. So far i at least try to be near the tank so he doesn't have to move around much to get them off me, but how do i use it correctly so i don't get into much trouble? Do i simply have to learn when ads spawn or how long fights last? Or is there a basic "guideline" on when to use regen? Thanks for your tips and thanks again to Desperius for this guide 😊
In my opinion, use regen on the tank when he has already pulled all the mobs but only if you have holy (I don’t remember what level you get it). I only use regen when I want to do dps. That way the tank has a small heal while I’m not healing. I almost always have regen on the tank during a boss fight because you don’t need to constantly heal him yourself, and this gives you time to just use your damage attacks on the boss.
@@servpro5star389 I know, it shows in the instant invites to dungeons 😄 And so far i really like WHM. I like how you can heal and also deal solid damage. I watched a video which explained all the skills etc and i can't wait to get the lilly and all those sweet OGCD skills 😁 But, of course, it's also tough. Not only when the tank wants to win the "who pulls the most" competition, but also getting used to the 2.5 GCD and managing that. But i'm sure that's only a matter of time 😊
I love healing and all, but the only thing holding me back in FF is switching between players quickly with PS4 controller. I’m not use to Final fantasy’s style when it comes to this. Sometimes I’ll lock on enemies etc when I try to heal.
Yeah finding certain targets with the ps4 controller is difficult, especially in a busy mob pack!! I have never played anything with keyboard and mouse so I don’t think it would suit me!! When i play whm i tend to not try and do too much dps and just keep my party alive. Some people will moan but if they’re alive isn’t that the main thing lol
WHM main here. Just set up your target filters correctly. Dpad up/down cycles through your party list, while dpad left/right cycles through enemies only. Then it's just a matter of muscle memory. And remember, dpad up starts you at the bottom of the party list. Very useful in 8-man content. You can even set up some shortcuts to make alliance members much easier to target in raids. And make use of the soft target feature! No need to lock on to somebody if they just need a single healing spell. Meanwhile, pressing Circle removes any targeting, good if you quickly need to heal yourself. Healing is very much doable on controller (I know players who heal savage content with a controller). It just takes practice, and some messing around with target settings.
Cure 3 is great for shared AoE's from the boss, everyone is close and it heals ALOT,. just to be sure to cast on front or everyone will walk away and you wasted alot of mp, because the range is really small. Spamming Holy in dungeons is useless, the enemy's can only be stunned 3 times so dont spam it but wait a bit.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm a level 30 Conjure and, I can't get quest to turn me into a Whitemage. I did all the quests J-pop Harry wanted me to do.
I had the same problem two weeks ago I guarantee you you're accepted the quest from the Conjure guild and you forgot to complete it. You can try to look in Gridania Quest logs and see which one it is? or you can just abandon all of them in the Gridania Quest logs will appear back in the Conjure guild
Hey Im about two weeks into ff14 and I absolutely love the game. I chose to become a white mage as my job and Im level 61 so far. In the he says critical hit is king but, im a little confused because I thought mind was the healers priority stat? (Based off what I read from the character stats) Am I missing something here? Any answer is appreciated as I want to know exactly what stats to go for because theirs so many different guides. Not sure what to think.
Prince Solitude Mind is the primary stat for healing, and I don’t believe mind materia exists anymore. In essence you can’t gain extra mind through melding your gear. So for when adding materia to gear, you should find a comfortable level of piety (mana regeneration), then prioritize critical hit, determination, and spell speed
Telling the least mobile healer (and potentially the least mobile job right now with how smooth BLM is) to ignore movement tools is very much not cool. I think most of this guide was fine but do not leave Swift on CD unless you're doing something like fresh savage prog.

Coming from wow, are there any healing addons in FFXIV? I find that using the default one is very slow like I have to click on another character bar to focus it and then heal them etc.
Use the F1-F4 keys, I think it's much simpler. You could even try out a Controller, back in my Ps4-FFXIV-Days, I found it pretty chill to heal with it. If you find your own tempo, it's quite easy. Definitely would recommend it to you.

@@Chun-1208 I actually played WoW as an ele / resto sham and aff lock from BC to Legion on Arthas, and I still love the game aside from BfA and Warlords. The only time it's "necessary" is in rated pvp, because everyone else is using it. It's not required in pve content by any means. Judging from your original post, you're just not used to games without it is all. You'll get used to using key targeting or macros pretty quickly. At least you didn't start on FF11. That mess would be a nightmare for WoW players.

So many of these youtube vids for “beginners” are hard to grasp because your all talking about the game after years playing it but you don’t break it down enough for “beginners”. I'm a brand new ffxiv and mmo player in general. Chose whM. I'm not sure what you take issue with here. Sub 40, you literally just spam 3 or 4 abilities. Basically the game is giving you time to understand balancing dps with healing then layering on complexity as you lvl up. For sub 50, I almost always start boss fights with regen-tank>aero>presence> stonespam>lucid>healing> repeat as needed. For even earlier levels pre-regen it's just stone into aero, stonespam, heal as needed. Meld effects are negligible in the early game, gear is most handed to you, so that discussion isn't necessary. The game let's you figure out how to be healer with a manageable difficulty gradient
@@TastyGamingQc I mostly used macros for 'cheat death' tank abilities. Having the macro delay casts on those abilities (to the point where it didn't go off after after I'd already died) was a massive issue. What kind of macros are you using? AoE aiming stuff, I assume?
Where do I recommend Piety? Just saying, that you need as much, as your optimization lacks skill and experience. I actually hit for lowest Piety tier myself

Jay Dee Cure 3 is super powerful especially when you have to stack together :) I use it allot actually.

DivineB is great for dungeons when the tank is gathering the mobs as it protects and we don't get healaggro from it

...why can white mage do absolutely everything better than I can?
No! I refuse! I cannot tolerate cure2, or straight shot, or fire1->fire3! The "proc" happens too far into the cast time for me to use it, I've already pressed cure1 again, it's too late!

I just got into FF14. My problem is deciding what job to main. I can’t make up my mind. I got a few jobs to 30. I like healing so I want to main White Mage. But when I see other jobs, I am like, I want to do that. Can’t focus.
Coming back to the game, used to main a beast sch...guess this is my life now 🙃

It's called ACT. Search FF14 ACT and it should show up.
I'm lvl 45 atm. Having basic knowledge of playing a healer in other MMOs healing was pretty easy up to lvl 30-40, but with every new spell it gets more interesting (and harder).
Although i only have about half the spells, this guide is really great. I will bookmark it to watch again and again the higher i get.
With that said, i have a little problem with regen. I quickly learned NOT to put it on the tank BEFORE the pull 😅
But it's often that i put it on him right after he aggroed the mobs, enemies are down, regen still up, and next mobs attack me.
Or in bossfights when adds are spawning it's a problem to have regen on the tank.
So far i at least try to be near the tank so he doesn't have to move around much to get them off me, but how do i use it correctly so i don't get into much trouble?
Do i simply have to learn when ads spawn or how long fights last? Or is there a basic "guideline" on when to use regen?

In my opinion, use regen on the tank when he has already pulled all the mobs but only if you have holy (I don’t remember what level you get it). I only use regen when I want to do dps. That way the tank has a small heal while I’m not healing. I almost always have regen on the tank during a boss fight because you don’t need to constantly heal him yourself, and this gives you time to just use your damage attacks on the boss.

And so far i really like WHM. I like how you can heal and also deal solid damage. I watched a video which explained all the skills etc and i can't wait to get the lilly and all those sweet OGCD skills 😁
But, of course, it's also tough. Not only when the tank wants to win the "who pulls the most" competition, but also getting used to the 2.5 GCD and managing that.
But i'm sure that's only a matter of time 😊
How do you unlock the white mage? I'm level 40 and have unlocked the full game (No longer on free) yet the conjure quest giver has no more quests?
You have to seek the twins in the black shroud forest. The girl one, at least.

I love healing and all, but the only thing holding me back in FF is switching between players quickly with PS4 controller.
I’m not use to Final fantasy’s style when it comes to this.
Sometimes I’ll lock on enemies etc when I try to heal.
hmm, yeah that sounds pretty rough.. any tip i can give you is buy a mouse/keyboard for your PS4 :(.

Yeah finding certain targets with the ps4 controller is difficult, especially in a busy mob pack!! I have never played anything with keyboard and mouse so I don’t think it would suit me!! When i play whm i tend to not try and do too much dps and just keep my party alive. Some people will moan but if they’re alive isn’t that the main thing lol
WHM main here. Just set up your target filters correctly. Dpad up/down cycles through your party list, while dpad left/right cycles through enemies only. Then it's just a matter of muscle memory.
And remember, dpad up starts you at the bottom of the party list. Very useful in 8-man content. You can even set up some shortcuts to make alliance members much easier to target in raids.
And make use of the soft target feature! No need to lock on to somebody if they just need a single healing spell. Meanwhile, pressing Circle removes any targeting, good if you quickly need to heal yourself.
Healing is very much doable on controller (I know players who heal savage content with a controller). It just takes practice, and some messing around with target settings.

Cure 3 is great for shared AoE's from the boss, everyone is close and it heals ALOT,. just to be sure to cast on front or everyone will walk away and you wasted alot of mp, because the range is really small. Spamming Holy in dungeons is useless, the enemy's can only be stunned 3 times so dont spam it but wait a bit.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm a level 30 Conjure and, I can't get quest to turn me into a Whitemage. I did all the quests J-pop Harry wanted me to do.
I had the same problem two weeks ago I guarantee you you're accepted the quest from the Conjure guild and you forgot to complete it. You can try to look in Gridania Quest logs and see which one it is? or you can just abandon all of them in the Gridania Quest logs will appear back in the Conjure guild
You need to get to a certain quest on your MSQ
Hey Im about two weeks into ff14 and I absolutely love the game. I chose to become a white mage as my job and Im level 61 so far. In the he says critical hit is king but, im a little confused because I thought mind was the healers priority stat? (Based off what I read from the character stats) Am I missing something here? Any answer is appreciated as I want to know exactly what stats to go for because theirs so many different guides. Not sure what to think.
Prince Solitude Mind is the primary stat for healing, and I don’t believe mind materia exists anymore. In essence you can’t gain extra mind through melding your gear. So for when adding materia to gear, you should find a comfortable level of piety (mana regeneration), then prioritize critical hit, determination, and spell speed

cure 1 here with cure ii for emergencies at 35. occasional medica if needed
Medica 2 fulltime during bosses and spot healing, DPS otherwise.

Telling the least mobile healer (and potentially the least mobile job right now with how smooth BLM is) to ignore movement tools is very much not cool. I think most of this guide was fine but do not leave Swift on CD unless you're doing something like fresh savage prog.

Coming from wow, are there any healing addons in FFXIV? I find that using the default one is very slow like I have to click on another character bar to focus it and then heal them etc.
No no add-ons in ff you can make a mouse over macro tho
Use the F1-F4 keys, I think it's much simpler.
You could even try out a Controller, back in my Ps4-FFXIV-Days, I found it pretty chill to heal with it. If you find your own tempo, it's quite easy. Definitely would recommend it to you.
There's no autopilot healing nonsense like healbot or vudu here, nor do most games allow bs like that. Just use the F1-8 keys.

@@Chun-1208 I actually played WoW as an ele / resto sham and aff lock from BC to Legion on Arthas, and I still love the game aside from BfA and Warlords. The only time it's "necessary" is in rated pvp, because everyone else is using it. It's not required in pve content by any means. Judging from your original post, you're just not used to games without it is all. You'll get used to using key targeting or macros pretty quickly.
At least you didn't start on FF11. That mess would be a nightmare for WoW players.

Beginners guide? Really? I got to 4:12 of this video and my head hurts. So many of these youtube vids for “beginners” are hard to grasp because your all talking about the game after years playing it but you don’t break it down enough for “beginners”. Sorry but thats how I feel about these video’s...
I am sorry, I really tried to break it down, but the combat system is complex and you definitely need some time to get into a certain job
I'm a brand new ffxiv and mmo player in general. Chose whM. I'm not sure what you take issue with here. Sub 40, you literally just spam 3 or 4 abilities. Basically the game is giving you time to understand balancing dps with healing then layering on complexity as you lvl up. For sub 50, I almost always start boss fights with regen-tank>aero>presence> stonespam>lucid>healing> repeat as needed. For even earlier levels pre-regen it's just stone into aero, stonespam, heal as needed. Meld effects are negligible in the early game, gear is most handed to you, so that discussion isn't necessary. The game let's you figure out how to be healer with a manageable difficulty gradient

Macros have gotten me killed more times than I can count. They're completely unreliable, and a crutch that will weaken your play.

@@TastyGamingQc I mostly used macros for 'cheat death' tank abilities. Having the macro delay casts on those abilities (to the point where it didn't go off after after I'd already died) was a massive issue. What kind of macros are you using? AoE aiming stuff, I assume?

Where do I recommend Piety? Just saying, that you need as much, as your optimization lacks skill and experience. I actually hit for lowest Piety tier myself
