i am a practicing optician in india,i take each and every measurment of my clients eyes and the adjustment of the frame, and trust me it makes way more differance in the vision, plenty of times clients are amazed when i take the precal measurments because they arent aware of such precise work and they been wearing just a usual spects for a long time.THANKYOU ROBERT YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.

Wow! I had no idea that there were these many measurements to be taken… that must be why I never felt my glasses were perfectly adjusted, even since I was a kid. Would you know about anyone in Brazil who is capable of making the perfect adjusted pair of glasses? Every optics I go to just measure PD, and that’s all! 😢

Good God! I have spent the last 6h watching your videos! 😅 as a fellow nerd and perfectionist I really feel like I need to fly over for a consultation. Is it weird that I feel this excited about getting new glasses? Mostly because of the tech to be honest 😁 used to work in the world’s leading thermal camera lens manufacturer and loved it.

What an informative video! I recently bought glasses with Zeiss Smart Life Individual SV lenses. I've transitioned from a smaller round frame with Essilor Eye Zen lenses to a larger rectangular one. Additionally, I've switched from polycarbonate to a 1.67 high index. My optician marked where I look through the lens, but didn't measure the pantoscopic tilt. I've observed significant distortion at the lens edges. Is this distortion due to the larger lens size? Or would taking additional measurements have made a difference?

Hello. Can you elaborate a bit on how you can accommodate for eye dominance?
I'm left-eye dominant and when I tilt my eyes down to look at something close, my right eye tilts further in, making it impossible to converge - it causes the right-eye image to be slanted upper/right. When I'm looking straight ahead (or upward), I don't have the same issue.

I had a pair of glasses with Zeiss Digital SmartLife lenses where the PD was off in one eye by 3mm; it rendered them useless! I thought it was a bit strange when they measured my PD using a weird flimsy plastic guage. The second time they used a corneal reflex pupilometer and now the glasses work perfectly.

Quick question: for a basic single vision stock lens like Zeiss clearview, is PD and pupil height two measurements good enough? Thanks.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Рік тому +3

Hi! The answer is no. Here's why all aspects are important:
Panto - to work out the fitting height (the rule is for every 2 degree of tilt, drop the height below pupil by 1mm)
BVD - to know what stock power to select
Bow - just a cursory glance to make sure you aren't dealing with a wraparound frame, as ClearView wouldn't be suitable.
You have to look at all measurements holistically as they all interact with each other.

Sir, i am from kolkata, india. I recently have got my eyeglass with zeiss smartlife singlevision individual lenses. before i ordered the lenses, the optician only marked two points (according to the position of my pupils) on the eyeglasses which i ordered from the shop and took the measurements of spherical and cylendrical powers with its curresponding axis according to my prescription and after a week they finally provided me the pair of glasses fit on the frame. But it is zeiss's most advanced singlevision individual lenses which requires lots of parameters to make the perfect glasses for my own individual eyes. Are only those information (PD, Frame and Prescription only) that the optician took from me enough to make those glasses ?? probably they also need the centre of eye rotation and distance between eye and lens as well to make the indibidual lenses . Without measuring those parameters how can the smartlife individual lenses be made in zeiss lab ?? I have checked that those lenses are original from zeiss . if possible, pease clear my doubt sir since i am doubting that those parameter values were taken from some other person's eyes to make that eventually possible in zeiss' lab.

The comparison to having a tailored suit is the problem. Bespoke suits are an expensive luxury. Eyewear is a necessity.
Why the PD isn't included in the Eye test is a disadvantage and should be compulsory. The problem is the majority of Opticians are catering to the majority of the population who are on low to average income. The Optician doesn't have the time nor budget to cater for the "average person". Also most people really aren't interested in the mechanics/science of how these things work...only what the cost will be to them & that they can see. Therefore the service is below par. The mark up on most frames is criminal. I know what I know by watching videos like this. When I go to Opticians I'm usually speaking to someone who's very young or not overly knowledgeable. I for one am one of the majority who can't & won't go to high end & exclusive Opticians because of the expense.

Well said, as the owner of one of the first visufit 1000’s in the world I am aghast that the vast majority of optometrists still use a felt tip pen (dart throwing as I call it). Similarly I only use Zeiss lenses which need the many many measurements to achieve their true potential. My Zeiss gripe is that they permit the “dart throwers” to dispense their excellent products. One chemist based chain particularly springs to mind!

Is there a way for people on an extreme budget to get such tailor-made glasses? My prescription is not very strong at all, and I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on glasses that I can do without if need be. I have glasses from Zenni and Payne Glasses, so I guess my main question is this: can my optician make adjustments to my Zenni and Payne frames so they're clear all around? My glasses help with clarity, but I experience fairly bothersome peripheral distortion.

I had a friend who was an optician. My glasses were amazing. Been mostly garbage since then. My last pair really really suck. Shit doc and cheap internet frames and lenses.

In my opinion the worse thing about glasses, is the frame adaptation to each user's head.
The nose pads and especially the temple + temple tips are worst.
The nose pads can apply pressure on the bone of the nose and generate discomfort and pain.
The temple can apply pressure horizontally towards the inner part of the skull, not only generatin discomfort and pain causing the user to be irritated, but if it's done to a growing body, a child, it can affect the shape of his/her skull compared to the situation where his head grows free because there is a force pushing inwards while the skull develops. This can visually be seen as a deeper curvature on the area right above the ear where the temple was pressing.
The Temple can also apply pressure, but since they are at the end of the temple, they apply it at the top of the eat, the back of the eat itself an the area of the head behind the ear, depends of the frame adjustment. This can also create distortions of the shape of the ear, for example it can make a sag cannal of the concha of the ear by applying pressure from behind as well as the bone shape of the area to which the ear is attached to.
And it's not only the disturbed growth of bones and cartilages, but also, the pressure blocks/difficults the blood flow of the vains/arteries/capillaries which is problematic for an optimal supply of blood to the area or the who skull and therefore the supply of nutrients and oxigen. That could affect academic/athletic performance compared to a glasses free head. It can be felt as pain and irritability.
Most people would not dare to adjust their own frame to their head after spending around 200€ on the pair of lenses and 100€ for the frame because they have no experience and dont know what they're doing as well as the risk of breaking them.
Maybe head messurements should be taken as well and have a program that shows the adecuate curves the frame needs to have so that the glasses just 'float' instead of choking the skull to sit on it.
Perfection may not be achievable, but the could be some strive towards the frame perfection instead of only the lens perfection.
Also pardon me for the mucho texto for whoever read that.

It's more simple than taking head measurements.
Try your eye-glasses and don't buy one that doesn't lend itself to be worn by you with comfort.
Don't buy frames with nose pads if you can't stand them or they do you harm.

Depends what you want from your glasses. Certainly not in terms of comfort and durability

@The Spectacle Factory Some Matsuda frames are also fully made from titanium (not every frame, though). Comfort can be subjective. Something that fits to one's face might not work for someone else and vice versa. I'd rank both of them as top tier but I prefer matsuda more (personal opinion)
