Be careful removing the tips when they are hot... you can marr them or warp them. I found that putting it in front of a fan cools them off really quick so I dont take a chance of messing up my tips or having to wait too long. :)

Hello Robbie. Thank you for watching my video. You will find that burning on leather follows the same techniques as you would use on wood. However, it requires a lower temperature setting. Work on a practice piece first and once you get familiar with it, you will find the surface very rewarding. Just be careful that the tanning method used was chemical-free as that could cause harmful fumes while you are burning your design on the leather. Stay in touch. I look forward to see your work!

I bought a woodburning tool cause I love all aspects of art & wanted to get into something new, not only tat but i'm quite the "earthy person" haha! Mine came with so many different tips, & I'm unsure as to what to do with them. Do you have a video explaining all the tips? I couldn't seem to find it on your channel. All my tips are bronze /i believe, but there's these two needle like silver tips, & I'm unsure if those can be used to burn? Nice video!
Hi Munchchewy0, I'm coming up with a video explaining how to use one or two of the tips, which I hope will help you and other wood-burning artists. Regarding those silver tips, I tried using mine to woodburn, but didn't really work. I believe they are included in the kit to help remove those fine unwanted lines from the wood-burned work. Experiment on them in a scrap of wood, okay?
@The Brewster Files, Some wood burning tools can double as soldering irons (used primarily for electronic repair). A soldering tip is usually pointed but could burn wood too obviously. Harbor freight sells a cheap wood burning tool that's actually a "5 in 1". One of the functions is soldering, another cutting styrofoam, etc. m.harborfreight.com/5-in-1-hobby-woodburner-38593.html

Thanks for watching, Devash. I like your question, but your inquiry is more related to woodcarving, which is quite different from wood-burning. The tool used is not a chisel. The hot tips burn the image into the wood, and you can't go too deep or else you will sear your image, which may result in damaging your design. Pressure on your wood-burning pen may vary depending on your design lines and the heat temperature you choose to use. I hope my answer can help you.

+Roldan Thank you for watching my video. I love working with birch in various thickness and sizes because there's not too much grain to deal with and the color is perfect for my designs. I have also worked on bas when I was just starting woodburning. However I have tried other pieces like maple, with its rich color and beautiful grains, as well as Ponderosa pine and spruce. I have done a lot of woodcarving before and I find all these types of wood challenging for pyrography.

Hi Cami2025, When you start to heat up your burning tool, do you turn it on to maximum? I suggest you do, then it shouldn't take too long. Then before actual woodburning, test-burn first and adjust the heat temperature so the hot tip doesn't scorch your design. Hope this advice helps.

+GITU MAHTANI Hi, Gitu, thanks for your comment. I'm glad that you find my tutorial useful. You mentioned your Salki JWQ-30. I think it's made in Argentina. I Googled it and finally found it. It looks just like the Walnut Hollow Versa Tool and comes with almost the same tips. I am sure you will master it soon, just keep practicing with it. When I was new in Woodburning, I didn't know how to use it and almost gave up on it too. Videos or tutorials were not available then. Keep up with it, use some soft wood at first like baswood or birch and use a manageable design at first. It's a wonderful creative activity you will really enjoy! Great video, but maybe in future videos use a bare wall or some neutral background rather than a green-screen or edited backdrop.. Of course it is possible that my computer screen has gone bad, but the shaky focus on various objects is distracting from the main topic of woodburning. As a beginner I absolutely appreciate the time you clearly put into helping us all learn. Thank you!

Hi AhMaD, Thanks for watching my video tutorial. In response to your inquiry, I will give you my own personal preference. I love doing pyrography on birch wood, firstly because it is light in colour and the fine grains are easy to work with. I have tried others and found balsa, bamboo and maple (hardwood) also fun to work with. If you are new at pyrography, start with a simple, manageable design on birch. I think you will enjoy it! Be careful removing the tips when they are hot... you can marr them or warp them. I found that putting it in front of a fan cools them off really quick so I dont take a chance of messing up my tips or having to wait too long. :)

Very nice tutorial. I am an artist and wood worker and you have inspired me to combine my skills. I will practice until I can burn with some sort of confidence that what I am trying to depict will actually look like that particular object or scene. Hello Robbie. Thank you for watching my video. You will find that burning on leather follows the same techniques as you would use on wood. However, it requires a lower temperature setting. Work on a practice piece first and once you get familiar with it, you will find the surface very rewarding. Just be careful that the tanning method used was chemical-free as that could cause harmful fumes while you are burning your design on the leather. Stay in touch. I look forward to see your work!

I bought a woodburning tool cause I love all aspects of art & wanted to get into something new, not only tat but i'm quite the "earthy person" haha! Mine came with so many different tips, & I'm unsure as to what to do with them. Do you have a video explaining all the tips? I couldn't seem to find it on your channel. All my tips are bronze /i believe, but there's these two needle like silver tips, & I'm unsure if those can be used to burn? Nice video!
Hi Munchchewy0, I'm coming up with a video explaining how to use one or two of the tips, which I hope will help you and other wood-burning artists. Regarding those silver tips, I tried using mine to woodburn, but didn't really work. I believe they are included in the kit to help remove those fine unwanted lines from the wood-burned work. Experiment on them in a scrap of wood, okay?
Those are burning tips for the fine lines.
@The Brewster Files, Some wood burning tools can double as soldering irons (used primarily for electronic repair). A soldering tip is usually pointed but could burn wood too obviously. Harbor freight sells a cheap wood burning tool that's actually a "5 in 1". One of the functions is soldering, another cutting styrofoam, etc.

How deep can the chisel go and what is the minimum thickness of the cut that is achievable?
Thanks for watching, Devash. I like your question, but your inquiry is more related to woodcarving, which is quite different from wood-burning. The tool used is not a chisel. The hot tips burn the image into the wood, and you can't go too deep or else you will sear your image, which may result in damaging your design. Pressure on your wood-burning pen may vary depending on your design lines and the heat temperature you choose to use. I hope my answer can help you.

+Roldan Thank you for watching my video. I love working with birch in various thickness and sizes because there's not too much grain to deal with and the color is perfect for my designs. I have also worked on bas when I was just starting woodburning. However I have tried other pieces like maple, with its rich color and beautiful grains, as well as Ponderosa pine and spruce. I have done a lot of woodcarving before and I find all these types of wood challenging for pyrography.

When you start to heat up your burning tool, do you turn it on to maximum? I suggest you do, then it shouldn't take too long. Then before actual woodburning, test-burn first and adjust the heat temperature so the hot tip doesn't scorch your design. Hope this advice helps.

It looks just like the Walnut Hollow Versa Tool and comes with almost the same tips. I am sure you will master it soon, just keep practicing with it. When I was new in Woodburning, I didn't know how to use it and almost gave up on it too. Videos or tutorials were not available then. Keep up with it, use some soft wood at first like baswood or birch and use a manageable design at first. It's a wonderful creative activity you will really enjoy! Great video, but maybe in future videos use a bare wall or some neutral background rather than a green-screen or edited backdrop.. Of course it is possible that my computer screen has gone bad, but the shaky focus on various objects is distracting from the main topic of woodburning. As a beginner I absolutely appreciate the time you clearly put into helping us all learn. Thank you!

Thanks for watching my video tutorial. In response to your inquiry, I will give you my own personal preference. I love doing pyrography on birch wood, firstly because it is light in colour and the fine grains are easy to work with. I have tried others and found balsa, bamboo and maple (hardwood) also fun to work with. If you are new at pyrography, start with a simple, manageable design on birch. I think you will enjoy it!
