Hi Manuel, not really. There are a few things to keep in mind, but nothing overly complicated. Unlike your sculptures. They require a lot more work and knowledge than pyrography!
Polishing your tips is fairly easy. Just get some jewellers rouge and a scrap of leather. Apply the rouge to the leather and then burnish the surface of the tip by rubbing it on the leather. Depending on how polished you want the tip this can take a while. Both leatherworkers and woodworkers often do this on their chisels/knives to get an even sharper edge.
Hi Dave, thank you for the information. I can tell a difference between the Colwood polished and the ones I polish using rouge & a strop. Maybe I'm just not polishing them long enough. Thank you again for the comment and information!
Excellent explanation of the difference between vegetable tanned and chromium tanned leather. The chromium tanned leathers can corrode the metal parts of fountain pens, so I always use the vegetable tanned leather for my fountain pen cases. You certainly put a lot of work into this. Your three dimensional effects near the end were great.
Thank you. I had read about chrome tanned leather being corrosive to metal. I usually spent much longer than I plan on these videos. I keep thinking on more stuff to add...
Thanks Brenda!!! Your video helped a lot! I did do some erasing so the products to resist the dye will be helpful. I also bought the set of ball tips. (I had been wanting them for awhile anyway). I’ll send you a photo of the finished product. Thanks for your help!
Hi Laura, I'm glad the video will help. The pro resist won't hide erase marks, but I thought it might be helpful on the Celtic knot. I look forward to seeing the final artwork!
Hello there Brenda, you certainly pack a lot of valuable information into your tuorial video's.. i am always impressed by this. Even though i do not create Pyrography art, i do find your tutorial video's extremely interesting. Big thumbs up from me !
Hi DK! Thank you. That is so kind of you to say. I actually think of my tutorial videos as being rather boring. I do think they are a sleeping agent. Have problems getting to sleep? Watch one of my monotone boring videos and you'll be in slumberland in no time. :) Happy Holidays! Hope the new year is filled with much happiness!!
Hola Brenda buen día... agradezco mucho tu información y consejos para mejorar este bello arte.... deseo para ti un buen fin de año.....y para el año venidero todo lo mejor...un gran abrazo desde mi México
Very informative video. I was wondering if you were going to decuss the heat adjustment pot on the burner. I have a burnmaster and it be adjusted too. The adjustment hole is located around 3 burn temp setting, you find the right size Allen key some call it a hex head. I don't recall what size it is but it is in their manual. I also found the pg = to propylene glycol funny but we do use a usp food grade which make a difference. It's used in many foods that is the argument. But that's not my point i just wanted to throw it in their for just in case factor. I am a DIY ejuice/eliquid mixer we use usp propylene glycol in our ejuice mixing as a flavor carrier and to thin out the vegetable glycerin out. Some people do have a type of allergic reaction to pg, most do not. I am one who doesn't have this problem.
Thanks for the comment and sharing that Burnmaster has a way to adjust the burner. I wouldn't be surprised if most burners do, but I didn't want to take the time to research of all of them. It was just a fluke I discovered Optima's because I wasn't looking for it. There are a lot of chemical used in an assortment of applications. I'm guessing the dosage or concentration levels impact the safety level. I'm just trying to discourage people from burning on chrome tanned and / or dyed leathers. It just amazed me (not in a good way) at how many people contacted me asking about it.
Posso capire i tuoi sentimenti. L'unica cosa che sottolineerò è che almeno con la pelle di mucca, l'animale non viene ucciso per la sua pelle. Invece la pelle è un sottoprodotto.
Leather burning is more science than expected. A great video Brenda (and one like to you.
