    I feel like the accents are making me want to clarify: it’s not that Walter wants to “go out with a bang” and so he starts making drugs. It’s that the American health care system is so absolutely fucked that he knows that getting terminal cancer will not only take him away from his family, but leave them completely destitute, broke, and most likely homeless. There are several points in the first season where the family’s financial situation is referenced. It’s all to make enough money to survive.

    • @Sugarman96
      @Sugarman96 7 місяців тому +17

      The American healthcare system _is_ fucked to be sure, but making drugs wasn't his only options. He could have taken the money from Elliot and Gretchen, but he turned it down, because of his ego.

      @@Sugarman96this, this and this. There are other realistic options other than that. I had cancer about 7 months ago and I paid $500 for a $330,000 surgery. That’s it. Doesn’t mean the healthcare system doesn’t suck but it’s not necessarily like people say.

    • @ADoovy
      @ADoovy 7 місяців тому +12

      Walt was never a social genius and at most became sociopathic when he entered crime. His attachment to Jessie is a reflection of Walter's inferiority complex and egotistical desire to be "the man". Walt has a genuine passion for teaching but Walt Jr and his students are the least enthusiastic about chemistry, Walt Jr respects Hank more as he is masculine compared to Pre-meth Walt's meekness. So upon fatefully meeting Jesse, a former student, he forces him into an apprenticeship in making meth. Walt sees Jesse as a son or nephew and apprentice despite his fuckups he tries to get him off drugs and reciprocates loyalty, Walter even accidentally mistakes Walt Jr for Jesse in his sleep talk. The catch is that Walter's affections are although genuine, they're calculated to be self serving in his goals.
      Walter thought Gus would eventually replace him with Gale so Walter forced Jesse to murder gale to save both their skins and like a controlling toxic parent, entraps Jesse in the lifestyle he hates but cannot leave, in which further results in ruining his life and soul and the the death of innocents. (Planecrash, Jane, Andrea and her son.)
      It was decided by a coinflip at the start that Jesse is not a murderer. Jesse was an addict but was never meant for the crime business. He sold his proudly crafted stool for a measly ounce of weed and instead of pursuing his passion in art, he masters cooking meth instead, mentored by his former highschool teacher whom instead of pursuing chemistry research, sold his co ownership of the billion dollar company Gray Matter for a measly $5000 and a huge load of pride and ego to become a drug lord.
