- 🌟 Skin Care Alert: Not All Trends Are for Everyone!🌟
💡 Did you know that viral skincare products like Kojic Acid soaps can cause more harm than good if not used correctly? Here’s a quick guide to keep your skin happy:
1. Bar Soaps, especially those with Kojic Acid, might be too harsh for your face. They can strip away natural oils and disrupt your skin barrier, leading to dryness and irritation. Opt for liquid cleansers and always use lukewarm water.
2. Kojic Acid Dosage Matters: The concentration of Kojic Acid is crucial. A higher percentage doesn’t always mean better results. Concentrations greater than 1% can lead to contact dermatitis and irritation, undoing any benefits by worsening hyperpigmentation.
3. Formula and Sensitivity:Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it's vital to spot test. Kojic Acid is not generally recommended for sensitive skin due to its potential for causing redness and irritation.
4. SPF and Moisturizer are Musts:Always follow up with a moisturizer and SPF. Kojic Acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so protecting it is key.
5. Understand the Science: Kojic Acid is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which means it helps reduce melanin production and lighten dark spots. But remember, it's potent and needs to be introduced slowly into your skincare routine.
🌿 Aftercare Tips:To minimize irritation, look for moisturizers with skin-repairing ingredients like ceramides, oatmeal, niacinamide, and cica. Always use SPF during the day!
📚 Wise Choices:While Kojic Acid can be fantastic for reducing dark spots and brightening skin, it’s not suitable for everyone. Be mindful of the products you choose and how you use them.
🔍 Stay Informed and always do your research before jumping on the skincare trend bandwagon. Your skin will thank you!

Most people are in a hurry to fix their skin issues. I learned the slower you go the better the results
Yes indeed
Also stop looking at the skin every waking minute.
This is true. I also gave my skin a while to reset when I got serious about it--no makeup, VERY basic gentle ingredients. I realized I was fixing side effects and symptoms instead of the root cause. If you've been messing with your skin for long enough, at some point, you're constantly fixing things that you've caused with the wrong products (right for the issue, wrong for the root). I found that by the time I finally gave my skin a rest after I initially started messing with it, My skin type was even different than I initially thought!! It's important to think about when you first started noticing skin problems and why, a lot of people only start addressing their skin health after they start wearing irritating makeup and noticing reactions....
@@anonymixx8106 true! I noticed my skin is only ever calm when I don’t use makeup and I have come to terms with it
Yes.
“Burning is your skin barrier's way of crying.”
Same for using hair relaxers. I keep telling people, your scalp is not supposed to burn and turn red.😂😂😂😂 STOP it
That but about burning was so LOUD. thanks Doc! ❤
You're welcome!
@@DrAlexisStephens UA-cam is messing with your videos I don’t get notifications and yes they are on
it’s not burning!! it’s the melanin being faded away, koji acid is a whitening chemical
@@DrAlexisStephensSo you’re saying cleansing your face with soap bars isn’t a good idea?
@@symplyemy62Hi hun I was asking the doctor.
My beautiful dermatologist is the truth. Love Dr Stephens
Aww thank you. Trying to help 👩🏾⚕️
@@DrAlexisStephenshi, how are you?
She really is gorgeous. And that skin tells me that she knows what she's talking about!
Does Dr. Stephens work on clients in Texas?
I love how soothing your voice is and how politely, calmly you explain everything!
Dr Stephens can you do a video on how to heal the skin after having that reaction? Thank you!
Yesssss!! Please 🙏
I had a situation where my skin barrier was damaged. What I did was use the Aveeno calm+restore cleanser and CeraVe moisturizer cream only at night. Then I used a warm wash cloth in the morning to cleanse along with the calm+restore serum and my sunscreen moisturizer. That's it, and my skin healed within 4-6 weeks which is how long it takes. You have to keep the routine very simple bc your skin is super vulnerable at this time. Hope this helps.
Raw Aloe Vera gel
Diaper rash cream!!!!
Go see a dermatologist or a great licensed esthetician.
I’m glad I watched this! I had the bars in my Amazon cart and was about to purchase it , now I changed my mind.
Good morning, I also have them in my Amazon cart. Now we have to figure out which product is actually good for us; back to the damn drawing board; I'm about to search for her and Dr. Vanita to see if they have any recommendations; I wish she would have named some in this shorts.
It did nothing to me, and I have sensitive skin. I don't recommend it though. It's not cheap, but try clear and brilliant lazer treatment.
Me too.. what can I use on my thighs in dark a lil... I was going to use to fir that
@@shanon1144you're definitely lighter. Vitamin c and kojic acid are lighteners.
@@mekajones7273African Black soap
You are BREATH TAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL!! keep up the good work.
I have been using the same combination of skin product since I was 13 years old. A generic lotion for dry skin, and soap and water. I thought I would be fancy and try other things but it led to me breaking out. So I just stick with my normal routine.
I have some decent working Koji soap never have this issue. You gotta do your research & know your skin. Dove was the GOAT But the San Koji Acid got my face clean and clear no issues at all ❤
Same here. KojiSan twice a week with moisturizing and sunscreen does wonders for my skin. I use it in the shower and only leave it on my face 20-30 seconds before rinsing it off.
@@LatiWins, same here.
Yepp SAME! Kojie San is AMAZING! Leave it no more than 60 seconds, 2-3 times a week for about 1 month. Then I skin cycle for a month and restart. Slower is better!
I saw this at the right time! I have so many stubborn dark marks I want to get rid of but I don’t want to cause any more damage
I learned this the hard way, cleansed with black soap, then used kojic acid soap, followed by lactic acid serum and a moisturizer. Lawdddd idk what I was thinking, I had the worst breakout, my skin is finally getting back to normal after using just cerave hydrating cleanser, panoxl and niacinamide/ha serums, NEVER again
DID YOUR SKIN COLOR RETURN 😍
Jesus Christ, why would you use TWO DEEP CLEANSING SOAPS AT THE SAME TIME!?
Omg
Please do a Q and A! For the life of me I need a black dermatologist who understands my skin. I have so many questions on what I should use.
Where do you live? You can do a search in your city. I found 2 that I love in Atlanta.

Thanks Dr Stephens! Love seeing your beautiful face. I always know it's going to be educational & kind. 🥰
I am so scared of over using actives, I always clear it with my derm. I know that a slightly privileged take but your skin is worth the time it takes to be sure that you’re not using ingredients that are too abrasive.
Truth. It caused really wild patterned hives on my hands and leg after using it for maybe a week- but only on my face. I stopped using it and with the help of Benadryl the hives went away in about 2 days
Wow
Thank you so much! You're so valuable! And you remind me of a Disney princess. I'm gonna tell my daughter you are the princess of skin.
I will ALWAYS TRUST you! Your skin is living proof! I've met so many of my skin care goals bc of your videos 💜🌻
Is there anything she can do to heal her skin after this?
Same question I had!
Time and more sun could help
@Iamnotgoingbackandforth, melinated skin heals in the sun. All things in moderation just like that soap. She probably was overusing it.
Glad I saw this pop up. I always check the ingredients before buying any new products I want to try but thanks for the info about kojic acid 👍🏾(check where it is on the ingredients list)
It’s recommended to stay out of the sun when using the kojic bar soap.
Not only that it looks like one of those Etsy soaps. I rather buy skin care from larger companies with strict regulations and regular safety checks
Thanks for this detailed video.I appreciate your message. Many folks need to view this video. Each one, teach one.Folks beware of harmful trends.Stay safe.
I have sensitive skin so less is more when it comes to skincare. Also diet plays a huge part in skin issues.
Thanks for the warning!
Wow ma’am ur skin is GLOWING
Where can you find it in a serum, lotion or moisturizer thanks Dr Alexis

EXCELLENT INFORMATION, I WAS JUST GETTING READY TO PURCHASE THAT SOAP!! THANK-YOU 😅
Her skin is raw and patchy. There's no way that is safe to use at home. I could probably use that on my knees though. 🤔
Yes. I feel so bad for her
I used kojie san soap for 10 years and my skin was smooth and perfect , it has a low amount of kojic acid so it will work slowly but beautifully , I used to struggle with the farmers tans and hyperpigmentation.
Thank you Dr Stephen's for keeping us informed
Thank you so much for sharing 🥹‼️‼️
I love me some Dr. Stephens. Thank you for your contribution to skin, especially Melanated ones.
I have tried Everythingggggg, till i tried dove bar soap.
Koji San is the best to use for my skin
Yes I have dry skin and I only allow to sit on my skin 30 to 60 seconds and I also moisturize and use use sunscreen

Perfect! Thank you and sharing with my teen🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
PLEASE Patch Test hair color, and skincare products. Save yourself from a bad reaction and unnecessary expenses (fixing a preventable problem).
I've only seen Kojic Acid in soap form though. I use a Kojic Acid soap now. I had some redness on my cheeks for a while but other than that, it has been working for my face especially my dark marks.🤔
Kya ap hindi me explain kar sakti hai ki apne kya likha hai...

My skin looks flawless and clear like Dr. Stephens. the I agree with the dermatologist when your skin burns that means you are having a reaction to the product. Every skin product is not good for everyone. Thank you Dr Stephens for sharing!! Sending you, Dr. Stephens and everyone here love, light and good deeds.❤️❤️🙏🙏☮️☮️
Thank you for sharing this video.
My absolute favourite dermatologist, Doctor Stephens❤.
My skin is real sensitive! I tried an expensive dept store brand fade cream and I got a few red bumps after using it for three days! Did an exchange for some face lotion so I didn't lose any money!😊
Kojic acid messed up my face! On my body it’s ok but people should be careful with the face.
Classy & intelligent women for the win 🏆
Kojic San bar removed my cystic acne..
She's right 100% listen to your skin. I got the kojic acid bar and my kin burned. I quickly washed it again. I only tried 1 more time and I had the same reaction, after this I don't use it anymore.
I bought that exact same bar and never used it. Thank God!
So, she's using that soap to lighten her complexion?
if so, that's truly sad that our community still views dark skin as unattractive
That’s what I was going to say. It seems like the ingredients are to lighten skin.. it’s a shame the limits people will go to
@@MoGermaine smh 🤦🏾♀️ black is so beautiful
I believe she was trying to lighten some discolorations and ended up with this result
@@rjbennett3448 oooh ... this don't look right
Thanks Doctor.
I bought that soap. It did nothing. I did a prx peel and is currently doing the CLEAR AND BRILLIANT lazer. I highly recommend it. 1st treatment has my skin on 10.
She skips the sunscreen🤦🏾♀️
People are quick to do anything but put sunscreen on
Girl you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! JEEZ. love my melaninated women❤
You're so beautiful and your voice is so soothing, my god. 🥺
kojic dipalmitate instead of kojic acid I've heard is safer. What is a good product recommended pleae
Hello, Dr Stephens✨
Would you recommend about 10% of Niacinamide in sunscreen?
So which liquid kojic acid do you recommend?
I used kojic soap on my feet and legs and felt a tingle. I cannot imagine using this on my face.
What is good sunscreen lotion or spray for people of color?
One should never ever try anything on their face before trying it on the inner body. Face is hard to correct, and don't leave anything overnight you are not sure of
Hello. What should my 11 year old daughter use for her acne?
Do you mind talking about the right amount of facial sunscreen? I've seen some mixed opinions on the 2 finger rule for some peoples needs.
I used kojic soap for over 6 years and haven’t had any issues it makes my skin brighter and even and I use it daily. I use it less on my face and more on my body. I didn’t like the kojic lotions or serums that burned me more or didn’t work much.
I've noticed some people are very lucky when using the bars. I think like many things, it will depend on the person, when your skin is wet it's more likely to pull products in.
Is kojic acid ok for seborrheic dermatitis?
Is her skin before or after this treatment, just curious?
What soap was it?
Yrs ago I started purchasing the lotion bc it was cheaper than buying bars. Never knew I was accidentally becoming a skin care professional lol.
What brand?
@@thehouseofmillie some Korean brand. My ex gf got it for me and I just stayed with it. It’s on Amazon tho.
@@wolfhernedez7739 no name?
Doctor, please give advice on extremely dry skin. I am 38 and now even started to develop wrinkles. I tried Vaseline petroleum jelly but still after few minutes am dry again
I have searched high and low for the best product to fade burn marks on my legs from a laser treatment nightmare. Luckily no keloids. Do you recommend Kojic acid?
Hi I have hypo pigmentation from tinea versicolor. How can I get my color back?
I have a question I have tiny bumps on my forehead and my cheeks I never had this before kinda white headish and it’s annoying maybe I should drink more water I don’t know
Hi Dr Alexis, I have very hard to control seborrheic dermatitis as I am Irish it has caused broken capillaries also some hyperpigmentation . Is laser the best treatment for this? and do those lasers use Diathermy as I have a Spinal cord stimulator, so I can not have diathermy..
I want that product she used. What is it called?
I use a soap but only on my legs and 1-2 a week, when my legs started burning I stopped using it every day
Her part reminds me of when Moses parted the Red Sea
Would that soap be okay for inner thighs tho? Mine are DARK!!! and I’d like to lighten them.
Dr. Alexis, could you recommend some great affordable products for kojic acid for the face and body? I found a kojic acid bar on Amazon with all the good ingredients including collagen, now I have to eliminate that. Just when I think I found something good , there's always a setback in starting a routine.
I am looking to use the kojic bar for my elbows only
My skin is extremely light around my upper lip area where I got waxed how do I even out the tone in that area it is a huge insecurity for me all the rest of my fave is the same color but my upper lip and I can’t stop waxing there when the hair is constantly growing
In school you learn and listen 😊
Okay, then what are good Kojic acid products ?
I’m 54 I’ve never used anything on my face other than warm water and Vaseline.
She also used lemon juice and other things that contributed to that reaction.
Mandelic acid for ethnic or any skin tones
If you have skin issues, find an excellent dermatologist! I can use thé kojic acid Bar soap but I’m lighter skinned. However my fabulous dermatologist in the DC metro area has corrected 80% of my face problems in less than two weeks. Still use the bar soap for body dark marks Mixed with heavy moisturizing body wash and it’s effective. BUT never could get even close to my doctor’s result’s for face issues. Sometimes you need prescription strength help and a professional eye.
I just ordered mines but I'm kinda scare
Now doc I have a I used this same soap and don’t have this issue. It it actually cleared up most but not all my markings on my face. C
