  • When you have been shoveling and plowing snow all morning sometimes you need a distraction and today I found mine playing around back on our frozen, snow covered loading dock. Let me be the first admit that I am abusing both of these vehicles and that this video is pointless. Enjoy. JC.

    Surprising result. I love the good old stuff which will work when you need it to work.

    If you get stuck you can use the rubber florring mattes for, giving the tires grip, all so try to not wheel spin

  • @linebacker79
    @linebacker79 5 років тому +2

    You gotta use 2nd gear always in those old busses. Way too much spinning.

    What i can tell you with my 1970 bay is it is the most dangerous snow vehicle i have ever driven. The front end is so light going around snow packed roads in colorado mountains that i have litterally done 180 degree turns going up monach pass and almost got hit head on by a city bus going up to mount Crested Butte ski area road.

      Thats interesting. My split bus handles the slick roads very well but it also hardly has enough power to get out of its own way. JC.

    205/65r15 Michelin Defenders on my '70 Transporter and 215/65r16 Defenders on my 91 Westy. I took the Westy over Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass last winter in snow without any problems. I totally recommend them but bring your chains too though just in case.

      I had these Michelin defender tires on my 2000 Dodge Caravan bought them through Costco... terrible tires for the SoCal dessert. The tread blocks literally pealed off after 15k miles. I took them back to Costco....Costco tried to get authorization to give me a new set, got denied by Michelin stating "normal wear and tear" won't buy Michelins again.

      @@ghalibabubaker88abubaker87 They're pretty tight on the rear. I rolled my fenders with a 1/4 inch wooden dowel to make sure they wouldn't run. It's hard to tell they were rolled. Looks nice with the wider tires.

    Hey Mate, took our 67 camping ⛺️ and run it up some slick muddy tracks with some incline, had plenty of grip and started to get some momentum into the corners and fish tailing, you would love this place Jeremy, it’s called Crescent Head, beautiful beaches for 4wd’s. Peace ✌️ Jp

    That's just shocking! I was thinking the whole time with the T3 that the snow is compacted, actually less traction that way. But then you came back with the splitty and it did it again. Note to self: never live on a hill with a T3. In the snow.

I love the tyres on the old bus would anyone know the right tyre size as i have a 56 panel van am working on and want to keep some all terrain wheels what would be the perfect size for it without rubbing on rear fenders and also while turning wheels on corners. Tyres is everything in this case. The syncro has almost no snow in the threads. And snow on snow means grip ;-)
    What kind of tyres is the syncro on?

    Sucks to drive these Vans in the snow the salt must really do wonders for that German Steel.
    Maybe do a first ever Subaru swapped AWD system hehe👌
    Also curious about the Tires are those K02's? Have you tried the Hankook Dynapros by chance? I was thinking of getting them for my wife's truck.

    • @Volkswear

      You know what really sucks is owning an old Volkswagen and not being able to drive it half of the year. I have a couple we put away for the winter but the Deluxe gets driven all year long. The tires on the Deluxe are the early KO All Terrains. BFG doesn't currently make the KO2 in the 14" wheel size. I haven't tried the Hankook but I have a friend who runs them and seems to like them although most of his driving is on the road. Thanks for watching. JC.

      Winter is almost half the year here in Idaho. I refuse to park my vehicles half the year just so the next guy who gets them has a pristine, rust free car. I'll enjoy them year round until the day I die. Rust can be maintained and dealt with as needed. Some of our most memorable trips in VW's have been in the middle of Winter. Thanks for watching. JC.

    My main bus project is a 67 same color as yours, i'm looking forward to getting it one the road. I did buy was 5 new Continental Vanco light truck tires. they are 15 . I put them on new Raider Wheels hope they work out; man I paid some stupid money for them, if not I guess i can alway sell them. I might now put them on my 64 bus, starting to like the idea of stock wheels and tires look on the 67 buses. You have a good source for 14" LT tires for these buses 1967's ?

      @Volkswear  5 років тому

      Dan Love General Grabber has a 27X8.50R14 that is very similar to the tires I'm running. My buddy runs them on his 64 Standard. There is a tire comparison video on our Channel that shows them. Good Luck with your Bus Projects. JC.

    Question I plan like you to drive my bus in Iowa winters , with the system in good repair how well does it keep the window clear in the winter, I drove a 1978 vert. in the winter everyday to work here in Iowa winters no issue with starting or getting through snow cold inside well yes but spring does come every year too.

    • @Volkswear
      @Volkswear  5 років тому

      Dan Love My heater actually works really well and keeps the windows clear. I can usually get the temps around 30 degrees warmer inside than it is outside. Secret is good heat exchangers that fully open and seal up all the duct work. I've been thinking of doing a video showing how well the heater works in the Deluxe. JC.
