That episode of Excellent Adventures with Gootecks and Mike Ross where you taught the two on how to pick a costume that blends in with the background, so then the three of you didn't lose a single round during the recording
Either ‘14 or ‘15 after basic training, team, and my first deployment. I went back home for the first time and hung out with my boys that I used to play with. Back in hs I used to body my friends with Dudley. I was the only one getting FADC’s consistently, I had basic rose setups, but LSS, I hadn’t played since i graduated and moved, they caught up, and was dragging me through the mud, and my boi Malcolm suggested looking Up SmugglesPHD to get my Dudley up (like i was anywhere near that level 😆), but I did and saw this fighter with the immaculate flat top that had mastered the turksui no neckbone, so i had to watch and try to learn.
To keep it a thou-wow. I think came across you via a UMVC3 tournament and then your, quotable of, "Acting like you won't get command grabbed!" Had me rolling so I looked up the source and found you channel
I started watching you in 2014-15. I remember New Year’s Day of 2015 I messaged you for a First to Five Dudley mirror match and you literally made my entire year. I was 16 at the time I’m 24 now. I got my ass KICKED but it was amazing to play against the person who got you into the game and the character you love 🙏🏽👍🏽
I found you because I consider Dudley my 3s main, and I love characters that have fun combo sequences/mixes. Its mind-blowing seeing him played on another level so I have deep respect for your ability to read/execute.
I literally just had one of your videos pop up in my feed around 2 years ago. Watched how you wiggity washed your comp with the greatest of ease, and have been a sub since. But yeah, it's a joy to watch your SFIV Dudley and SFV Balrog go to work.
Dont remember why i started watching i think it was the LTG sets? Anyway been a big fan ever since and i just started playing Balrog a few days ago so its dope you just dropped this💯🔥 now we just gotta get brian f back lol
I started playing sfv in 2020, but I couldn’t play that often but I came across you Brian and Punk at the same time and it was an amazing experience. The way you guys dominate the game always had me watching EVERY video to see if I could learn anything. Pure HYPE.
I first heard about you a couple years ago from a fighting game tournament on UA-cam, most likely with IFCYipes doing commentary. One of your videos popped up in my recommended videos and you said “exe-ma-cution” and I was fan immediately afterwards.
I'm glad you asked; I had just been thinking about this a few weeks ago. I actually remember it pretty clearly, now that I think about it. I believe it was 2018, and I had been watching Rage compilations; people losing and being salty in tournaments. That's where I found the antagonist of our little story. You know him, you love to make fun of him: LowTierGod. Sometime after watching that video, another one involving him came around to my recommended, only this time he was playing with somebody else. And that somebody... was the Mayor of Duff City. From there, I went on to watch more and more videos with you, loving every minute. Your magnificent combos, your sense of humor, _and_ you play boxing characters, which I love. You know, you're actually the reason I started playing Street Fighter V. So, thanks, and I'm glad I could be here.
Been a gamer for over 4 decades and I'm a Boxer. I've always loved Balrog and you were the first player I saw to master him and straight WRECK other players with him. The fact that you've mastered Dudley just puts you over the top in my book. He needs to be in SF6.
17:24 The legend of Smug has spread throughout all the FGC, and many have come to challenge him. Some lack the faith that they can defeat him, and so they resort to a plethora of tactics to try and cut down the Flat Top Warrior. The Necalli trained to turn his body gray so that he could blend in with the battlefield. This made him hard to see, and Smug was initially taken aback by the Necalli’s strategy. But it mattered not, for Smug had faith in his abilities. And as the Necalli lay defeated on the ground, Smug reminded him of his fatal mistake. “I believed!”
Compilations about FGC moments, i didn't even play fg that much, but when i was seeing the video, people always seems very salty, very tense in the tournaments in general AND THEN, THERE WAS YOU pre-match smiling, acting, being funny, making handshake mix-ups haha ... that's what made me search more about you and discovering your sick dudley. The thing is, you seem to be a nice person, funny, so it's always a joy to be with you. Came for your charisma, but stayed for hot flaming cheetos kick
i heard about you like a year and a half ago , and funny thing is, i dont even play SF, but ive been watching you because you're a wholesome guy , very funny, and never a sore loser i love seeing you just do you and be happy plus you are very very good at the game and your combos are nice to look at... alright real talk? its when i hear the words "Wiggity wash" it cracked me up XDDDD
It's gotta be over 5 years Smug, you are funny and Dudley is my sf3 and sf4 main, you made Balrog look hype and i had a character crisis in sfv so i mained Balrog even tho i never used charge characters. I don't comment often but ive watched every vid on your channel bro with the greatest of ease
i found this guy when like a few years ago as some comp playing some nasty rog. amazing personality good sportsmanship and crazy skills man . once a year for like 2 months im a fighting game guy who re lives his childhood though people like this. ty man.
I believe I started watching SF tournaments and you were the first person that made me actually tune in. Others didn't understand the entertainment aspect of it. I met the Macho Madness of the FGC. Since then I got mad faves now. (Ex. 4 Philz's Faulk) Seriously CPT owe you a bag for pulling in veiwers alone.
Excellent adventures with Miguel and Goose how I found you. Then youtube recommended me your LTG fight where you took his name. Kept coming back every so often to witness the shenanigans and eventually subbed.
Clips of your SF4 Dudley back on the BEASTs channel. That was during my SF4 phase where I growing into the culture of the FGC. Saw your youtube recommended to me sometime later and said "how can I not take that subscribe button to duff city" haven't regret it since.
To answer your question, Smug, I found you thanks to Next Level Battle Circuit during the Ultra Street Fighter 4 days. I saw this dude taking people to duff city with Dudley, one of my favorite characters, and I was like, "I wanna know this guy." And the rest is history.
I was trying to learn Dr. Diddles and was just looking up clips of top players when I came across some of your crazy combos. After you appeared on Excellent Adventures you made me a lifelong fan with the greatest of ease. Also, shout outs to Trunks. Still don't know who that is but shout outs to him anyway
I found you in the SFV era in like 2018 after watching some of the LowTierGod videos on my feed. After that I basically started getting recommended more SFV videos, and that’s how I found you and later Punk. I’d say you (Smug) and Punk are my favorite SFV FGC players. I was so upset seeing Punk lose that Luke mirror in that tournament.
When I first started watching Smug, he was talking about turkey neck bones and Cambodian breast milk, and he was playing Dudley in SF4. I think one of the first matches I saw of his, he was wearing a huge Boondocks Huey chain. Been watchin' ever since.
To answer your question, I saw you first in the video where you washed Sonicfox 35-1. What impressed me was not the wiggidy wash but the fact that you didn't humor that man's request to call him "they". I thought to myself, that man has integrity and is entertaining and subscribed that day.
I don’t exactly remember what video it was, either a Dudley or Balrog video, but I clicked and that’s when you were doing messages at the beginning of vids and that shit was so funny, so I just kept watching and been a fan of your style ever since
You inspired me to pick up Dudley in SFIV, I never got good with him sadly. But I found out how much of a funny ass dude you were so I wanted to see more of your content.
I learn of smug with sf4 dudley! The Set against Sanford Kelly was epic…! Love the channel, boi especially the money match from epardah and rushdown… One of (if not the best) fighting game channel out there…
I found you because I started watching a lot of evo, cb and other tournament's for games like Tekken, street fighter and mk years ago. I seen you fight someone and was like damn this man is a monster!! And been watching you ever since haha
I knew smug from watching random videos at pro events but stayed for his comeuppance and transition into a threat at high level. But also dabbing with the tims is the ultimate shade
I've found your channel very recently. I was addicted in SF6 beta gameplays, in special of Kimberly, and the most recent video of yours, you were playing with her. Then i've started to accompany your videos because you're the best with the greatest of ease.
I found you smug from your SFV sagat videos. I started playing in late 2019 and someone recommended me to play sagat and I wanted to find some good gameplay to learn from and your videos where some of the first that came up. Been watching ever since :)
First time I heard about Smug was... like early SFV timeline. Think it was when Balrog was released. People were comparing him to a hammerhead shark back then, real disrespectful, lol. Fell in love with the Balrog play, and popped back up when he had those sets vs LTG.
Funny enough, I knew about you back when sf4 was kinda still poppin. I saw you're legendary set against PR Balrog, and then from then on I was a fan for life. Stay classy Smug, and I'll keep cheering you on from the sidelines. 😁
i followed you after starting to watch pro play. Saw you play a round where you looked at the camera. That's when l knew you were the type of player that makes the culture interesting and must be supported
Referring to your question of "What made you tune in to me?" at the beginning of the video: I am a big Balrog and Zangief player and was searching for combo videos and came across your vids. You were KILLING with Balrog and that shit caught my eye immediately. Also Snake Eyes was also killing with Zangief. Both of ya black too so that sealed it. Keep going.
Don't remember the exact tournament but i watched like most of sf4 tournaments back in day like many others. Your sf4 dudley was impressive. You were doin combos in tournaments that many haven't seen before.
I heard about you when I watched you wash LowTierGod, and from then got into your Balrog vids because they're awesome! Much love, brother keep up the grind!
I started getting into watching competitive fighting game videos a while back and came across the video of Kenny Omega carrying you to a ring in which you played some dude and handed him your jacket in between matches. I was like, yup, that does it, this here is my guy. Been enjoyin watchin you wash fools who act like the won't get command grabbed ever since. Stay classy with the greatest of ease.
To answer your question: I discovered you along with basically the entire scene new and old back in Street Fighter 4 days probably about 2012. The first video I saw you had lost and everyone was saying "Here we see the difference in a tournament player and a really good online player." but look at you now. You are a tournament player that everyone knows for your unmatched Dudley combo execution. It's been a lot of years with many new faces and eras.
Smart I’ve been watching you since Sf4 your Dudley was just crazy bro like every move was Calculated with Fundamentals. “With the greatest of ease” -smug 🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
I remember watching a few of smug's matches washing people with dudley back in street fighter 4. then I ended up sticking around after watching him play street fighter 4 online and beat someone with just stand fierce while he shouted "duffed" each time it landed. 😂 Keep being you brother!
I honestly can't remember how I found you, I guess I was looking up G guides back in the day and the algorithm recommended me you, I haven't looked back since
I found you through Yogaflame back in SF4 days. I can't remember which video but your matches were always awesome. One your matches I remember is the one you had with Poongko Seth and he took his shirt off and you were doing your Smug cheesing at the camera. Lol
Kenny Omega carrying you on his shoulders is the first time I saw one of your videos. As a wrestling fan, that blew my mind and I thought “This dude must be really good!”.
The classic Smug vs Poongko and others USF4 games are how I got to know the FGC, and I found out smug had an actual channel way before all the subs came in.
Damn - honestly I can't remember when I started watching your videos, but I think it was back in the SF 4 days cause I remember you wrecking fools with Dudley in that game. I also like how you learn and adapt to your opponent, leading to some ridiculous comebacks from "magic pixel" health. The FGC needs more people like you and jmcrofts. Chill, likes to have fun, but don't get over the top when they are winning.
Lol the necalli matchup blending into the background was like you in your webcam-all I could see was your shirt! Haha, but the first time I saw you was in a sf4 tourney playing Dudley and you were rocking the 8bit Dudley necklace
The first time I remember seeing you was an old video of you vs Daigo in SF4, when he grabbed the energy drink (red bull?) that sponsored him between sets. And the look you gave him.
I first saw you on Cross Counter TV on an Excellent Adventures episode playing SF4 all those years ago, though I have heard your name prior. That episode was about a year old at the time I think.
@SMUG I actually saw you in a tournament video way back when. Then all of a sudden, you have a channel and I started seeing your shorts. And then YT recommended your channel, so here I am 👍
I was watching some sfv tournament stuff when you were giving people the work with balrog. Then my first UA-cam video of you streaming was when you played against low tier god and told him, "you see these cookies?.......if I win you have to mail me an apology letter, along with a box of these delicious cookies," or something like that. I've been watching you duff bad mamajamas into oblivion ever since. Lol. And THEN I learned about your Dudley. So I did everything out of order. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think I started getting recommended your videos around the G era. And I remember seeing u play in NLBC streams. I could not believe the PS4 messages people sent to you.
Heard about you from the start of the come-up during SF4 days. Dapped you up at APEX (and lost to Lee Chung's Hakan in bracket) for SF4, I was the guy wearing the Mike Tyson Mysteries pixel shirt that you said you liked!
I saw a smug funny stage moments compilation dont remember when but it was hilarious when you trolled on stage and still won or put up a fight, then i checked the stream n youtube out and you were godlike
The hilarious sets you had against LowTierGod.
He ran into that turd of a poser?
LTG?

You blew up during SFIV with your legendary Dudley can't really tell what year but clips of your Dudley were everywhere
yep same

At 7:53 did Smug just combo into a overhead?! WHAT
I found you because I consider Dudley my 3s main, and I love characters that have fun combo sequences/mixes.

I saw Yogaflame's compilations years ago and thought "holy shit this Dudley is incredible". Been a fan ever since.
I think I might've seen you in some SFIV set a wayyys back but I just subbed this year because of your editing and attitude, the hype around SF6.
Been a gamer for over 4 decades and I'm a Boxer. I've always loved Balrog and you were the first player I saw to master him and straight WRECK other players with him. The fact that you've mastered Dudley just puts you over the top in my book. He needs to be in SF6.

I saw you on sf iv with Dudley but I became a fan becuase of mike Ross and gootechs excellent adventures. You were HALLARIOUS on that.
JWong vs Smug in SF2 was the first time I seen you bro. Hilarious sets.
I remember being entertained by you in your appearances at EVO in sf4 early days, and always enjoyed when you were up to bat.

like 2012 or 2013 from seeing you in majors and money matches. thanks for sticking around
I've been watching you duff people since the SF4 days but only recently found your youtube channel. Shoutouts to Xanadu's old location and Coin Up lol
I fell in love with your content after watching you cook LTG with the greatest of ease.

Noticed you when I mained Balrog. Been watching your videos and studying your style for years!

I discovered you and punk at the same time. they had Sfv on TBS that ish blew my mind to see fighting games on tv
Smart I’ve been watching you since Sf4 your Dudley was just crazy bro like every move was Calculated with Fundamentals.

The Wiggitywashing from Zangief is what brought me here 🤣🤣🤣 ill never forget it lol
I remember watching a few of smug's matches washing people with dudley back in street fighter 4. then I ended up sticking around after watching him play street fighter 4 online and beat someone with just stand fierce while he shouted "duffed" each time it landed. 😂
Keep being you brother!
I honestly can't remember how I found you, I guess I was looking up G guides back in the day and the algorithm recommended me you, I haven't looked back since
2022 - started playing fighting games 2 weeks ago with SF5 and learned about your channel
first found you in 2020 when i started playing sfv, wanted to learn gill but me seeing you play g convinced me to switch and now hes my secondary main
I first seen you in NLBC SF4. Your Dudley was so damn stylish. It was ridiculous
I found you through Yogaflame back in SF4 days. I can't remember which video but your matches were always awesome. One your matches I remember is the one you had with Poongko Seth and he took his shirt off and you were doing your Smug cheesing at the camera. Lol
Since street fighter 4 pretty much evo tournaments or just tournaments in general your one of the greats in the fighting game community man 💯💪💯💪🔥
I found you when G was released and you started picking him up, I've been watching you ever since!
Kenny Omega carrying you on his shoulders is the first time I saw one of your videos. As a wrestling fan, that blew my mind and I thought “This dude must be really good!”.
Around 2018 when i started playing street fighter and watching a lot of street fighter 4 tournaments.
14:41 Power Thru That Tireless "Tire-Man" with this.
The classic Smug vs Poongko and others USF4 games are how I got to know the FGC, and I found out smug had an actual channel way before all the subs came in.
Abigail said, “I want to see if you know how to check this ‘tire pressure’”. And unnecessary roughness on that Chun Li with those overheads
Found your channel yesterday and subscribed because I started playing street fighter 5 for the 1st time and needed tips
Damn - honestly I can't remember when I started watching your videos, but I think it was back in the SF 4 days cause I remember you wrecking fools with Dudley in that game. The video on Twitter of you saying "acting like you won't get command grabbed". Made me laugh out loud so I watched some more videos.
When you made that dude take his shirt off before playing you in a match, mad funny.
The first stuff i remember of you is your SF4 dudley when you were rocking the boondocks chain
I found you in Sf3rd strike. That Dudley nasty! Since then been a fan
UA-cam algorithm is how I became a fan, that was like three or four years ago
I was watching some sfv tournament stuff when you were giving people the work with balrog. Then my first UA-cam video of you streaming was when you played against low tier god and told him, "you see these cookies?.......if I win you have to mail me an apology letter, along with a box of these delicious cookies," or something like that.
I've been watching you duff bad mamajamas into oblivion ever since. Lol.
And THEN I learned about your Dudley. So I did everything out of order. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fight between you and Punk with all the hats.
I think I started getting recommended your videos around the G era. And I remember seeing u play in NLBC streams. I could not believe the PS4 messages people sent to you.
Your the best boxer player hands down man 👏🏾 your Dudley in sf4 got me hooked 😂
From punk's suggestion, glad i did find ya!
I'm so old, I knew Smug during his silent teenage era when he wouldn't talk at all on camera
