It has been said that truth is stranger than fiction. Whatever the case, this week's show is about real people doing real things...and their stories are pretty incredible.
"I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace; that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a Congress!" ~ John Adams, 1776 (musical)
Love the story about the Wilhelm Scream. Sheb Wooley was a regular on "Rawhide." He also had a bit part in "Silverado" as a grizzled army Sgt who had to determine whether Kevin Kline's stolen horse was really his after Kevin gunned down the thief. Reunited, the horse and Kevin were kissing each other on the lips, and Kevin said "Can't you see this horse loves me?" Sheb said, "I had a gal do that to me--didn't make her my wife."
This is slightly embarrassing but as soon as you said the name Sheb Woolley, I immediately thought “Flying purple people eater!” I teach dance and use that song all the time for the little ones during Halloween. I struggle to remember why I walked into a room so I don’t know why I remembered that name from glancing at a playlist.
I cannot be polite enough for my own podcast, so I love listening to yours, Seth! One of my heroes, with an epic voice! Always wish I could hop on and chat with you, but I will settle to listen. Stay epic! 🍻
This podcast took me back many years, right down to the sound of the voice and the cadence. Paul Harvey. Fabulous episode, thank you. " and now you know the rest of the story."
I guessed it - the reveal about it being the founding fathers!! That's why Im a strong believer in meeting up with like-minded buddies in pubs to this day 😁👍
I worked at Waverly country club in Portland Oregon and one night the host of the party told the staff we have so much alcohol go ahead and help yourself and oh my God we were drunker than the guest and got in trouble for it😅🎉
I really enjoyed this. I've listened to a few of your True Stories episodes, but since they are so short, I find myself having to stop whatever I'm in the middle of to put on a new one, or put on something longer. I really like having them in sequence for a longer piece. You should do more of these.
Talking of the Wilhelm Scream, by far the best on-screen cry of pain I can think of is in Terminator 2, when Arnie has to win a shootout with massed cops, but without killing any of them. There's one bit, as he mows down a building lobby with heavy artillery, when you hear someone cry "Ouch!"
There is so much more information about lawn chair Larry now than there used to be. I remember looking into that story on the internet probably in the mid-2000s? Late enough that Google was a thing. At the time it was hard to tell if it even happened, and there were several different versions of the story floating around citing different names and different places, and wildly different details of his interactions with authorities during and after. Now there are whole bios written about the guy with citations and pictures from the event itself.
I was working at Sydney international airport when "United breaks guitars" went viral. It was quite the hit amongst the staff. A couple of years later, I had the great pleasure of meeting Dave Carroll. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't flying United. 😂
I had only heard a couple of these before, so this was great. One very important question was missed about one of the stories, though. Who "knocks up" the "Knocker Upper".... 🤔 Cheers Seth. 😊
😂😅Frat parties just aren't what they used to be! 😅😂 For the "Founding Fathers" they were writing the Constitution. These days, there always serms to be an ulterior motive involving sororities and clothes coming off! 😂😅
A Brazilian Catholic priest took a helium balloon flight in the early 2000s to raise money. He drifted into a storm before losing contact with his ground crew, and the lower half of his body was found floating in the ocean some 6 months later.
I have a book called "The Flight of the Eagle" by Per Olof Sundman that is about 3 French men who tried to fly a balloon to the North Pole in 1897. (They failed.) The intriguing thing about the book is that it has "Vonnegut, March 1970" written inside the cover. I found it while living at the farm in British Columbia where Kurt Vonnegut's son Mark lived for a time. Mark Vonnegut later wrote the book "The Eden Express" in which he writes about his experiences at the farm. Did this book once belong to him? I like to think so.
Just finished watching Holy Koolaids latest video, The biggest miracle scam. At about 3:08, he uses the “scream”. Never would’ve given it a second thought if not for Seth. Ha Ha.
The Kegger that Rocked The World. That should be made into a movie. There have been plenty of special effects/ super hero movies. Show some variety, Hollywood.
Fun fact, helium balloons can fly much higher than hot air balloons. They can reach the stratosphere. They can go about 20 miles higher than Mount Everest. If you do make a helium balloon, make sure there is a safe way to descend when needed and bring oxygen, just in case.
Re: the screamer who wasn't credited. Mercedes McCambridge was promised to be included in the credits for her voice of the devil in The Exorcist, but she was left out. It wasn't until a second printin of the film that she was acknowledged.
Anyone familiar with the work of Dickens would consider your initial explanation of the "Knocker Uppers" profession to be a bit long-winded, especially as the specifics of Mary Smith's story are the interesting part.
43:07 rott my brain and destroy my future? Employers that fire me at the drop of a dime and say they are hiring but never actually follow through? Oh. We're talking about something else. hehehehe
I'm an atheist and agree with this channel's philosophy but I turned off the video immediately after hearing that obnoxious irritating intro music. I also unsubscribed.
SORRY SETH, BUT YOU HAVE MISINFORMED THE PUBLIC. The Challenger flight of Jan 28 1986 was supposed to include John Denver, but due to President Regan’s choice to send a teacher, Christa McAuliffe was given the seat. John wrote a song in dedication called “Fly for me”.🫡

Learning about the Christmas Truce in college is what made me a pacifist. Happy holidays Seth! Thank you for all you do!
Admittedly a good story, whether real or not
Enjoy your holidays! Thanks for all you do!

I love these so much. My favorite of your True Stories was the one of Madeleine & the unicorn. I have listened to it so many times. Thank you, Seth!🦄
Seth Happy holidays to you and yours thanks for all that you do! Looking forward to this podcast
This had me laughing, crying, and everything in between. Thank you so much!

Seth: This was a great program. You truly are the "reincarnation" of the wonderful Paul Harvey! As always, thank you!
As a child I actually loved Paul Harvey's "The rest of the story".
This was an excellent hour spent. Thank you.
Thanks Seth! Merry Christmas
You had me curious about the Wilhelm scream so I looked it up....he has over 60 credits on IMDb for that same scream under archival sound.
This podcast took me back many years, right down to the sound of the voice and the cadence. Paul Harvey. Fabulous episode, thank you.
" and now you know the rest of the story."
Thanks, Seth. I needed this today.

Seth, you are a Master Story Teller! 😮 I love this format. Please do more!!! 😊😊😊 BTW, thank you for getting me out of religion! 😊

☕️ cuppa n ear 👂ready.
Enjoy xmas holidays Seth,Nat and Linus n Gracie 🐾 ❤️
I seem to recall a 2003 movie called “Danny Deckchair”, that was so similar to the Larry Lawnchair story!
Have a beautiful holiday ❤

Happy winter solstice.
Your podcast you can have any intro you like. It’s your show.
The quick brown fox, etc, is a typewriter exercise for learning the keyboard.
Spending $17,000 on a government party is relatively inexpensive by today's standards, where such events can cost millions.
I think that was just the booze for the attendees.
My income as a disabled person is 15,000/yr. It's too much no matter what...
Still dont make it right.
The 2003 movie "Danny Deckchair" starring Rhys Ifans is loosely based on the flight of Larry Walters aka "Lawnchair Larry".
A Brazilian Catholic priest took a helium balloon flight in the early 2000s to raise money. He drifted into a storm before losing contact with his ground crew, and the lower half of his body was found floating in the ocean some 6 months later.
...well thanks for the holiday cheer 😐
So god only wanted the top part, there was too much sin carried out by the bottom part. The head probably got consumed and sunk.

49:04 Seth discovering Willow Smiths social media
That guitar song is actually not bad.
46:46 this has become "today I watch, tomorrow I love cats"

Hey namesake. Happy/Merry seasonal celebration of your choice (if it were up to me, Yuletide).
Fun fact, helium balloons can fly much higher than hot air balloons. They can reach the stratosphere. They can go about 20 miles higher than Mount Everest. If you do make a helium balloon, make sure there is a safe way to descend when needed and bring oxygen, just in case.
The Wilhelm scream is also used in video games...😂
Don’t forget the movie Danny Deckchair, inspired by Larry?
The insanity of war
Cool!
I avoid United Airlines at all cost due to personal experience.
I'm surprised that United didn't file a "cease and dissist" order on the song.
*Desist.
And now you've heard...the rest---of the story.

Funny podcast - Did you realize the word phonetic is not phonetic
This was a super nice way to spend my evening! Thank you for the joy you brought! 🥰🫶
Merry Christmas Seth, we appreciate you and as always hail Satan
3:59 And a partridge in a pear tree!
No way the brew was cold or even normal room temp, but I am sure it was welcome
Merry Bah Humbug ! !

They should make a biopic of Larry Walters life, starring The Great Gonzo & Camilla The Chicken as his girlfriend.

Re: Can't Sleep......I go to bed with you every night listening to your voice. Give it a try.......gloria
Sheb Wooley was also the man who sang THAT'S MY PAW. ua-cam.com/video/9ebWLw2xZSQ/v-deo.html

Bye bye to both of you👋👋👋👋
Good grief!
