Started with SIS, moved on to GU Gels and Tailwind but now very much a Maurten fan with their Drink mix and Gels. Great product and very effective although a bit expensive.
I have been using Maurten gels for about a year on my long runs ,excellent product gives you energy for a few hours .Did my first ultra at the weekend 50k took one gel one bottle of 160 mix ,plain water and 2 bags of crisps got me through ,so top marks to the Maurten stuff
That's great to hear Steven, glad the Maurten products are working well! Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment and who knows you might win some free Maurten goodies 🙏😊
My go to gels for the last few years have been Spring Energy, amazing product that really works, but super expensive and VERY short shelf life. Super keen to try Maurten products🤙🏻
The Spring energy gels are good but you're right about the shelve life 👍 I'll keep my fingers crossed Dean and you never know you might get to try the Maurten products out for free! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏
My go to for fluids is Active Root. Gels wise I’m pretty lucky I’ve used Gu, Sis and High 5 with no stomach issues. On some longer runs I’ve used malt loaf and flapjacks to give my tastebuds a break.
Maurten is the BEST!! I ran a marathon in April, had a 320 drink with me the whole time. Took Maurten gels every 6k (alternating caffeine and non caffeine). My pace didn’t drop the entire race (8:35). Didn’t hit the wall and got my long awaited BOSTON QUALIFYING time!! Won’t use anything else going forward. 😊😊
I typically use SIS for training as they're affordable and always have great offers. But they do give me GI issues. When it comes to performance and races Maurten are the dogs 'particulars'... Spring & Unived also excellent and have great flavours.
I'm not a fan of the SIS products if I'm honest, I think it causes a lot of people issues 👍 Glad you rate the Maurten products, I've been super impressed! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Up to marathon, usually SIS gels (4). For ultras, mostly new potatoes dipped in salt, malt loaf pieces squashed into balls and wrapped in film, mini pork pies, some back up gels and whatever looks good at the aid stations!
As a long distance triathlete I've used many of the top sports drinks and gels, I've in recent years moved over to using Ucan and SFUELS.... Ironman have now started using Maurten as there race drink supplier which is why I'm really interested to try it, along with the fact that Jan Frodeno uses it also.... Very pricey but would pay if for the right product... Thanks for the great channel.
I just saw Maurten have become official nutrition for the Ironman brand, that's a pretty big deal! They are definitely behind some of the best athletes in the world, Jan being one of them 👍 Thanks for watching and I'm really glad you're enjoying the channel 🙏
At the moment I'm a fan of Clif Bloks, and Tailwind in my water on long runs. Find Tailwind has been super reliable so far, and has electrolytes and carbs covered - really keeps me from bonking. Clif Bloks are great as they're just like sweets so easy for me to consume, (if a little too easy!) but you do have to have quite a few to keep you going. I have used (and still occasionally use) SiS caffeine gels, but I have noticed they sometimes give me a stitch - so avoiding at races! Keen to try Maurten out as seem very popular. Love the channel Loyd!
Thanks Charlotte, really glad you're enjoying the channel 😊 Clif bloks are pretty good but I do find they can get stuck in my teeth. I've used Tailwind a few times and it seemed to work pretty well on some of my shorter runs but I'm not sure I could stomach it on a longer race 🤔 Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏
Cheers Lloyd, perfect timing. I used to use torq on my bike but unfortunately they are too thick when I run. Tried sis and had a stitch within minutes. Recently ordered some high5 aqua and mourton. Tried high5 last weekend and was a lot thinner with no reaction going to give mortian ago on Saturday. Plus also going to order some saysky combat gear to complete the run for adventure marathon look
No problem Tom, glad you found it helpful! The high 5 gels are a lot looser than most, I used them for a few years and had no issues. I don't think they have as many calories as some products on the market though. Hope the Maurten works well for you and you'll love you SAYSKY kit 😊 Thanks for watching and supporting as always its really appreciated 🙏
My go to gels are Clif Bar Shots. I typically go with the raspberry flavour as it gives me a jam-like treat. For my fluids, I stick with Skratch hydration mix (orange or strawberry); find that it sits well in the stomach and the flavour is not too sickly sweet.
I've wanted to try these but the price tag always got me... I currently get a mix of Gu, cliff, Huma, and other gels and blocks. I get palette fatigue easily so the more varied the better for me. Thanks for a very descriptive (and relevant) video!
I was the same Tyler when it comes to the Maurten products but I'm really glad I've tried them now 👍 It's definitely pricey but the performance is impressive. Thanks for your kind words and for watching the channel 🙏
I've only tried bringing a banana for fear of having stomach issues along the way. I've heard Maurten is one of the best for that issue, so I'm keen to try them out.
My go-to nutrition for long runs/ultras; packet/s of bliss balls, loads of jellybeans, homemade date/nut/oat balls, baby food pouches, bananas, and a few gels as/if needed. Also a bit random but I always take money with me and really love to stop off for a chocolate magnum mid run if I pass a store. And then for hydration, Tailwind or nuun for electrolytes in one bottle, water in my other bottle.
I want to come out running with you, it sounds so tasty! 😂 This is what I love about running, it's all so personal. Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Really like the Maurten Gel Caf 100. Zero gut issues so far. I have been trying the Skratch Labs Superfuel for my drink mixes and so far so good with that too.
Really glad you've got on with the Maurten gels 👍 I've heard a lot of good feedback about the Skratch Labs nutrition, I'll have to check them out. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd, what a great, fantastic video about Maurten nutrition! I haven't tried yet, was used to GU Roctane gels and Drink, so far working for me, no stomach issues. But your review makes me sure to go for Maurten as well and it's time to give it try :). Also, tried Veloforte, UK company, very good, also 100% natural energy bars and gels and especially energy bars are so so so tasty. Gave me a nice energy during my marathon attempt, easily digested. But as you're saying that Maurten is really worth its money, need to try it :) Thanks a lot for your views as always :) Peter from Slovakia
Thanks Peter, really glad you enjoyed the review. I tried the GU gels and for me they're a bit to thick in consistency, I found them quite hard to swallow? 😕 Hearing good things about the Veloforte bars, they're meant to be very tasty so I'll have to try some out. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Hey Loyd, I also noticed that GU gels are thick, I could compare with Veloforte gels, but GU that Roctane gel with salt gave me more or quicker energy. But was wondering when tried Veloforte bar in the at around 15K during marathon, ate one bar and was surprised that I was able to eat it during run and had no heavy stomach and yes recommend at least Veloforte bars, haven't eaten so delicious energy sweet and 100% natural, no artificial additives. But want to try "Spring" gels, have you tried them? But Maurten seems to be the best, but Maurten gels are without any flavour, right?
I am still in the midst of trying different types of nutrition but am happy with Lucho Dillitos, Huma gels and have just tried some Mountain Fuel gels and drinks and there are so far so good. Good video 👍
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed the review. The Lucho Dillitos are super tasty aren't they and the Mountain fuel products are pretty good to 👍 Thanks for watching mate 🙏
I'm a big fan of Tailwind and Revvies caffeine strips. Find them very palatable. Really enjoyed this video, I agree nutrition is a very personal thing but it's good to hear your thoughts and opinions on products.
Just starting to try Maurten gels, Lucho Dillitos (from your recommendation), SIS gels, mountain Fuel, Chia Charge, and also started trying Supernatural Fuel. All seem to be ok, and it’s great to have variety!
That's great to hear Matt, really hope the Maurten and the Lucho Dillitos blocks work out for you 👍 Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
I struggled with gels for years, but Gu products work well for me (especially their espresso flavour). For distance running I combine those with Lucho Dillitos (thanks Loyd for the recommendation!) and Active Root drink mix 👍
It can take a long time to get it right Nick and even then it doesn't always go to plan! Really glad you're enjoying the Lucho Dillitos, it's a great product 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Thanks Sarah, really glad you enjoyed the review and you've already discovered the Maurten brand 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the review Loyd. I like crank sports e-fuel, Maurten gels (but very expensive) Been trying to get lucho dillitos, but not easy to get them in the USA
No problem Roy, thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏 I've had a few viewers saying it's hard to find the Lucho Dillitos blocks in some Countries 🤔
Hi Loyd, great video, thanks. I was always put off by the price tag but you might just have convinced me to give it a go. At the moment my go to is High5 aqua caffeine gels as well as baby food pouches. 😋
Thanks Frederique, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍 I was put off by the price to initially but the performance of their products is impressive! I know quite a few ultra runners that use the baby food pouches 😋 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I've been using Skratch Labs hydration, gummies, and bars. They are more prevalent in cycling but I love their stuff and it works great. They are local to us in Colorado, they are out of Boulder, CO where many top athletes live.
I'll have to check Skratch Labs out Adam. They've got a lot of love in the comments so I'd be interested to try them 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The Maurten products have really impressed me Pat 👌 Easy on the stomach but it's the amount of energy they give! 🚀 Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
I have tried a few different brands, really don't appreciate taking them though, from the icky taste a few will give [have tried to blend them up for longer ultras but that has only given my mouth taste for one or two more] to the added thirst they give has made me do ultras without any gels ... as water is precious 🙂 Have never tried Maurten though and would love to find out if this company has found a solution to [doing long trail runs without gels has made me realise] scheduling when you gonna 'hit the wall', i.e. 'pain cave' as you do when the effect of the gel runs out.
Hey Loyd - detailed and insightful review thanks! I ran my first marathon in April and it was all going swimmingly well until mile 20 when the wheels truly came off! Came in with a respectable 3.08 but feel that my nutrition strategy let me down. I'm now in the process of trying gels from the usual suspects (SiS, High5, Torq etc). I have my next marathon lined up for the end of July and I'm determined to break 3 hours! These Maurten gels would go a long way towards that goal. As you say, if it's good enough for Eliud... 😉
Thanks Nehal, glad you enjoyed the review. The wheels can definitely come off in the last 10k of a marathon, especially if you haven't put the calories in! When you're trying to run that sort of time nutrition is so important 😊 Out of interest what do you use on the Marathon? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Cheers Loyd! I used Veloforte cubos which were great but I think I just needed some calories! Next time, I think I'll look to Maurten or Unived Elite gels and aim to take one every 40 minutes!
Thought I'd better get my entry in! Love Maurten gels, but the cost means I only tend to use them on race days. High5 gels and Lucho Dillitos get me through most of my training!
Well done Gavin! The Maurten products are quite expensive but the performance is impressive! Lucho Dillitos are pretty good as well and very tasty 😊 Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞
Mountain Fuel and Huma gels are my current favourites on training runs. On Ultras will also eat solid food and whatever is available at aid stations. Interested in Maurten though.
The Mountain fuel products are pretty good Wes, I've tried their jellys and gels 👍 Thanks for watching and good luck in the giveaway, hopefully you can try the Maurten brand for free! 🤞
SiS and Tailwind for me, just because it's easily available and not too expensive. I once tried a rhubarb and custard Torq gel though and it was incredible so may try and get a few more of those!
I used the Torq gels for years and they are a really good product but they can get a bit to sweet if you're taking them for hours 🤢 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Yeap you definitely want to train your body to eat more solid foods if you're getting into the Ultra scene Matthew 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
For me, hands down Maurten.. I got a sensitive stumach. Maurten is amazing.. No troubles... Will be running my first Marathon in August. But have used them on long trail competitions and in my Marathon long run training. 6/6. But haven't tried them with coffein. Would have loved that. Cheers from Norway, and a great Channel you got 😁🇳🇴🏞️🙌 Ps, Liked both Run4adventure and Maurten_Official on Instagram ✅
That's great that you've discovered the Maurten products already 😊 Best of luck with your first marathon and I hope training is going well 🏃♂️ Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
We tend to stick to whole foods but occasionally use a Spring gel or Mountain fuel. Would be very interested to try Maurten, especially in the water as don't really get on with Tailwind. Like the idea of minimal taste 👌
Nutrition is such a tricky thing and I don't think you ever master it Martin! Best of luck with the giveaway and hopefully you'll get to try the Maurten products out for free 🤞 Thanks for watching 🙏
Never tried Maurten before because of the price, I’ve always been happy enough on SiS and occasionally Tailwind, Trek bars and cheese n marmite sarnies 😋
I was put off by the price as well Tom but I'm glad I've tried it now because it is an impressive product! Hopefully you'll get to try some for free by winning the giveaway 🤞 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always 🙏
Totally agree, the Torq and high 5 gels are pretty loose and go down pretty easily compared to some. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated, good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Mountain Fuel for me, amazing product. They are the original "hydro-gel", hence Maurten can't Patent it. Mountain Fuel have just released a new sports jelly (gel) to rival the Maurten equivalent. Well worth a look
I have tried Mountain fuel products before Ashley. I thought their bars where really tasty but I wasn't that impressed with their gels 🤔 They didn't seem to give me that much energy after taking them? Haven't tried their Jellys before though so I'll have to give them a go. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I ran 30 miles on the trail sunday and had maurten 320, i thought i was going to wake up sore but i woke up feeling great like when you go out binge drinking and to your amazement you wake up energized 😂. I bought a bunch of the stuff for leadville 100
I’ve used a range but settled on Torq but only certain flavours. To break up the routine I use malt loaf and homemade flapjacks with dates and coconut. If Maurten is as good as you say this may be my go to for the Dragon Back in Sept! I’d be keen to give it a spin! Cheers
Hey Loyd. Tried the Maurten and it was easy on my stomach, but tasteless and the old version didn’t contain enough sodium. Funny the new mixes DO contain enough sodium? Use Skratch labs and then a variety of other REAL food - bacon, mashed potatoes and the list goes on. Great review though! 20K subs are quickly approaching. 👍Cheers. Dave
I'm hearing a lot of good feedback about the Skratch Labs nutrition, I'll have to give them a go at some point 👍 Really glad you enjoyed the review and not far away from 20k subs, thanks for the support 🙏
Currently using a mix of tailwind, lucho dillios and torq gels. Still trying to find the perfect fit but would love to try maurten, sounds like you get what you pay for! 🤑
That's a good mix of products Tom. Nutrition sure is a tricky thing and even once you've got a system in place it won't always work out 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, good luck in the giveaway 🤞😊
I've used SiS mostly for both gels as well as energy drinks. I don't really use specialised products of any other kind. I like just basic apple bars or something like that for "real" food and I just wold down whatever is at aid stations. I'm fortunate in that I have never had stomach issues during ultras, no matter what I eat or drink.
It sounds like you've got a good strong stomach there, which always helps 👍 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
What was your intake and timing during your 44miler ? Did you have 1x320 mix in your 500ml water + a normal 500ml of water and then a load of gels to top up ? I'm just trying to figure out a good 300-400 kcal/hour routine.
I used the 160 mix in one soft flask and just water in the other and I used 4x sachets. As far as gels go I was having one every 45mins - 1hr throughout the race 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Just ordered a multitude of different gels to find something new as I have suffered stomach cramps on last 2 long runs using high 5 slow release... Always heard great things about maurten gels but never tried them....maybe a little pricey?
It is pretty pricey when you compare it to a lot of other products out there. But if you are struggling with your nutrition Si it might be worth a go 🤔 Hope you find something that works for you and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
It really depends how I'm feeling Chad. In the race if just run using the Maurten products I pretty much just had the drink mix and the Gels. A part from one banana at half way and a bag of crisps at 40 miles 👍 Hope this helps and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure Well i just took the 320 mix on an hour run. It's cooking here today in the states. 101F outside. I was shocked how sweet the mix was. Almost like a sugar water. But after 60 min it was great. body felt good.
@@Gentlemanwick Glad to hear that Chad 👍 It has got a different consistency to it and there is some sweetness but that's because it's crammed full of calories, it's like rocket fuel 😊
Great review, I have always been put off by the cost of Maurten but keen to try the brand. I have used a number of brands SIS, Kendel but more recently Mountain Fuel - sports jelly. I have tried thier ultra range but it was too thick. Big fan of malt loaf and Chia Charge flapjacks especially banana 🍌 and chocolate 🍫 😋
Thanks Alan, really gkad you enjoyed the review. I was the same when it came to the Maurten brand, it is expensive! But I'm glad I've tried it now because the performance is impressive 👍 The Mountain feul jellys are actually very good, I did try their gels and I wasn't that impressed if I'm honest. You can't beat a bit of Malt loaf when you're going long, brings back childhood memories 😊 Thanks for watching!
If its working, it's working Claire 👍 Also 19 miles is a long way so I'm not sure its 'only' 19 miles 😉 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment, best of luck with the giveaway 🙏
Useful video! I currently use Torq, SIS and Clif's Bloks, but I'm looking to try a new gel and drinks mix in preparation for my first marathon in Manchester. I'll definitely give this brand a whirl.
That's great Karen, I'm glad you found it useful 😊 We'll hopefully be a Manchester to, it's a great Marathon, you'll love it! Best of luck with your preparations and the giveaway 🤞 Thanks for watching!
A great mix of products there Dominic 👍 The Mountain feul jellys and Lucho Dillitos are really good products! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I use regular Maurten gels with caffeinated Tailwind drink mix. Love the gels but I've found the Maurten drink mix just a little too sweet for my liking. Took 9 Maurten 100 gels a few weeks ago for a 50 mile race
That's the thing with nutrition Carl it's so personal but I'm glad the Gels work well for you 👍 Hope the 50 miler went to plan and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Don’t know if it’s the time of year in the hight of summer, though I feel knackered all the time! I put a SIS electrolyte in water for my 12k yesterday and it helps, though just feel so tired 😴. Will try the Mauten products 👍
The heat can definitely make a difference when it comes to energy levels but so can diet and hydration Richard 🤔 Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Hello Loyd, for me I personnaly use Näak Bars or Clif Bars and electrolytes from Decathlon. I wanted to test Maurten products sucha as the hydratation mixes and your video convinced me to try.
Awesome Gianni 👍 I really hope you enjoy the product and you never know you might win some on the giveaway! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
I haven’t really found a gel that I like. Struggle to have many on longer runs. One product I do really like and use is tailwind (berry flavour), really like the taste and seems to help me on those long runs =)
It can take a while before you find something that works for you but it's good that Tailwind is working out. Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
The High 5 stuff is pretty good and I used it for a few years. The Gels are nice and loose but they don't have a lot of calories in them when you compare them to other products on the market 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated Ruben 🙏
The Torq gels are a really good product and they've got me through many races in the past Steven 👍 Hopefully you'll get to try the Maurten products out for free if you're lucky in the giveaway! Thanks for watching 🙏😊
I've been a big fan of Tailwind and Babybel cheese 😂 for years, I'd love to try Maurten though as I quite often struggle to eat anything with too much flavour later in ultras
Im only up to half marathon distance so haven’t needed any gels. Just a cup of coffee and a banana before i run dose the trick. I do want to do my first marathon within the next year so will be considering gels
Yeap you'll definitely need to think of a nutrition strategy for your Marathon Paul, getting it right can make all the difference 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Well, l'm still trying to find my ideal nutrition. Although l prefer solid food l find it difficult to swallow during a long run. If l had a preference it would be Veloforte. I love their Doppio caffeine gel and find their chews easy to swallow. Their bars are very thick and difficult to swallow but taste great. Cheap sausage rolls go down easy so are a godsend for me.
It can take some time to get it right John and even then it doesn't work all the time 🤔 Not sure cheap sausage rolls are the way forward though 😉 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Yeap I got on with the Torq gel and really enjoyed a lot of the flavours but they could get a bit sweat when you've been taking them for several hours! Thanks for watching Carl and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
That's a good plan Rob 👍 If you're planing on running long it's a good idea to practice eating more solid foods just so your body can get use to it 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
It's alway good to try out new things Nick because you never know how well it's going to work 👍 Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Tested Maurten Gels and the 320 drink (both decaf :) ). The gels are ok. Not feeling an impact when taking them but not bonking so they work. The drink not so good. The problem I encountered is that it can only be mixed with water that has a specific hardness. I had issues with it mixing during training so I stopped using it. I live in the countryside and the tap water has higher pH.
I'm glad the Maurten gels are working out for you Mihai 👍 Yeah you're right about the mixing of the drink mix, it is very specific. My water at home must be just right because it mixed really easily, I was actually shocked how easily 😳 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The only Maurten product I've used is the Gel 100 and like you, I found it the best gel I've ever tried. Really kick of energy and easy in the stomach. Can't use caffeinated products on runs though. 💩 My other go to energy brand is Mountain Fuel, really like their products and they do an unflavoured drink mix. 👍
The Gels are very impressive Stuart and I can have a similar reaction to caffeine when I run! 😳 I've tried a few of the mountain feul products, their bars are very tasty! Thanks for watching mate 🙏
@@Run4Adventure the good thing about the Maurten gels are the carb to weight ratio, 25g carbs per 40g gel. Most others are about 20g carbs to +60g "gel".
Sorry to hear you're injured Ben 😔 Always a frustrating time but stay positive and do your rehab and you'll be back in no time! Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
Tailwind and high 5, flapjack, jam sandwiches, malt loaf and lucho dullitos. There's probably more if you include scoffing everything in sight at the checkpoints 😂😂
Hi 🙂 you are from UK like SIS ? Read a commet that sis make problems? What kind of problems? We can buy sometimes sis in Serbia and some third grade gels.. I am participating in NYC in November and exporting gels- I am interested in Maurten and Huma for now, to buy in nyc (i try Naurten one time) …but sis beta fuel in gel whit most carbohydrates per dose; that good?? (I combine sis beta fuel and electrolytes in my PB races; but i am open to take something new; I know it's not recommended for racing but I don’t have stomach problems)
@@Run4Adventure I highly suggest you this spanish brand. All their products are really amazing. Developed and tested by Movistar Cyclism Team. Thanks heaps Loyd!!
Maurten have intrigued me but not tried them yet. Tailwind powder, Nakd bars and sometimes Mountain Fuel or Chia Charge flapjacks. Sadly I'm still looking for a deli sponsor for scotch eggs and pork pies!
Love it!! Maybe these scotch egg and pork pie companies are missing a trick 😂 Mountain fuel and Chia bars are both great products though 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I have tried a few different products from Gu gels but they are too hard to swallow when running. Nuun but feel there is better option and honey stinger gummies. Now i use Skratch a smaller company but feel it has been working pretty good so far. Always wanted to use Maurten but probably like everyone else the price is high for constant use through training.
I had exactly the same issue with the GU gels Scotty, just to thick and hard to swallow! 😕 I've been hearing lots of good things about Skratch products I'm going have to get some to try. Thanks for watching the review and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure Skratch is a great company and there service is probably the best. I really like there recovery drink powder! Works really well. Only problem they dont have gels yet. They have chews which Im not a big fan of unfortunately because it takes longer to eat while on a run. Hopefully they get some gels though.
Very interesting video ‼️ So far I have used PowerBar or Sponsor products... Also tried Winforce - but that did not work... So I take your advice and try Maurten 👍👌🤞 By the way: which vest from Salomon did you wear? 😜🤔

I just saw Maurten have become official nutrition for the Ironman brand, that's a pretty big deal! They are definitely behind some of the best athletes in the world, Jan being one of them 👍
Thanks for watching and I'm really glad you're enjoying the channel 🙏
At the moment I'm a fan of Clif Bloks, and Tailwind in my water on long runs. Find Tailwind has been super reliable so far, and has electrolytes and carbs covered - really keeps me from bonking. Clif Bloks are great as they're just like sweets so easy for me to consume, (if a little too easy!) but you do have to have quite a few to keep you going. I have used (and still occasionally use) SiS caffeine gels, but I have noticed they sometimes give me a stitch - so avoiding at races! Keen to try Maurten out as seem very popular. Love the channel Loyd!
Thanks Charlotte, really glad you're enjoying the channel 😊
Clif bloks are pretty good but I do find they can get stuck in my teeth. I've used Tailwind a few times and it seemed to work pretty well on some of my shorter runs but I'm not sure I could stomach it on a longer race 🤔
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏
Hope the Maurten works well for you and you'll love you SAYSKY kit 😊
Thanks for watching and supporting as always its really appreciated 🙏
My go to gels are Clif Bar Shots. I typically go with the raspberry flavour as it gives me a jam-like treat. For my fluids, I stick with Skratch hydration mix (orange or strawberry); find that it sits well in the stomach and the flavour is not too sickly sweet.
A lot of people seem to rate the Skratch hydration, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for watching the channel and best of luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
I've wanted to try these but the price tag always got me... I currently get a mix of Gu, cliff, Huma, and other gels and blocks. I get palette fatigue easily so the more varied the better for me. Thanks for a very descriptive (and relevant) video!
I was the same Tyler when it comes to the Maurten products but I'm really glad I've tried them now 👍
It's definitely pricey but the performance is impressive. Thanks for your kind words and for watching the channel 🙏
I've only tried bringing a banana for fear of having stomach issues along the way. I've heard Maurten is one of the best for that issue, so I'm keen to try them out.
You can't beat a good old banana for giving you some natural energy Joe. Fingers crossed in the giveaway and thanks for watching the channel 🤞
This is what I love about running, it's all so personal. Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway
🤞😊
Really like the Maurten Gel Caf 100. Zero gut issues so far. I have been trying the Skratch Labs Superfuel for my drink mixes and so far so good with that too.
Really glad you've got on with the Maurten gels 👍
I've heard a lot of good feedback about the Skratch Labs nutrition, I'll have to check them out.
Hearing good things about the Veloforte bars, they're meant to be very tasty so I'll have to try some out.
The Lucho Dillitos are super tasty aren't they and the Mountain fuel products are pretty good to 👍
Thanks for watching mate 🙏
I'm a big fan of Tailwind and Revvies caffeine strips. Find them very palatable. Really enjoyed this video, I agree nutrition is a very personal thing but it's good to hear your thoughts and opinions on products.
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍
Best of luck with the giveaway and thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏
Just starting to try Maurten gels, Lucho Dillitos (from your recommendation), SIS gels, mountain Fuel, Chia Charge, and also started trying Supernatural Fuel. All seem to be ok, and it’s great to have variety!
That's great to hear Matt, really hope the Maurten and the Lucho Dillitos blocks work out for you 👍
Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
I struggled with gels for years, but Gu products work well for me (especially their espresso flavour). For distance running I combine those with Lucho Dillitos (thanks Loyd for the recommendation!) and Active Root drink mix 👍
It can take a long time to get it right Nick and even then it doesn't always go to plan! Really glad you're enjoying the Lucho Dillitos, it's a great product 😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review. Maurten for me for marathon or half marathon. For longer ultras it’s PB wraps all the way!
Thanks Sarah, really glad you enjoyed the review and you've already discovered the Maurten brand 😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the review Loyd. I like crank sports e-fuel, Maurten gels (but very expensive)
Been trying to get lucho dillitos, but not easy to get them in the USA
No problem Roy, thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
I've had a few viewers saying it's hard to find the Lucho Dillitos blocks in some Countries 🤔
Hi Loyd, great video, thanks. I was always put off by the price tag but you might just have convinced me to give it a go. At the moment my go to is High5 aqua caffeine gels as well as baby food pouches. 😋
Thanks Frederique, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍
I was put off by the price to initially but the performance of their products is impressive! I know quite a few ultra runners that use the baby food pouches 😋
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I missed this video . Glad I looked to see if I missed any. Definitely going to try the gels on my long run days .
The Maurten products are very impressive and you never know you may win some in the giveaway 🤞
Thanks for watching 🙏
I've been using Skratch Labs hydration, gummies, and bars. They are more prevalent in cycling but I love their stuff and it works great. They are local to us in Colorado, they are out of Boulder, CO where many top athletes live.
I'll have to check Skratch Labs out Adam. They've got a lot of love in the comments so I'd be interested to try them 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Sounds like it's worth a try cheers again Loyd 👍 count me in 😎
The Maurten products have really impressed me Pat 👌
Easy on the stomach but it's the amount of energy they give! 🚀
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
I have tried a few different brands, really don't appreciate taking them though, from the icky taste a few will give [have tried to blend them up for longer ultras but that has only given my mouth taste for one or two more] to the added thirst they give has made me do ultras without any gels ... as water is precious 🙂
Have never tried Maurten though and would love to find out if this company has found a solution to [doing long trail runs without gels has made me realise] scheduling when you gonna 'hit the wall', i.e.
When you're trying to run that sort of time nutrition is so important 😊
Out of interest what do you use on the Marathon?
Lucho Dillitos are pretty good as well and very tasty 😊
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞
Currently using High5 and VALA gels - VALA are completely natural and have a great taste to them as well!
I'll have to check out VALA gels Ben, I haven't come across them before. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Mountain Fuel and Huma gels are my current favourites on training runs. On Ultras will also eat solid food and whatever is available at aid stations. Interested in Maurten though.
The Mountain fuel products are pretty good Wes, I've tried their jellys and gels 👍
Thanks for watching and good luck in the giveaway, hopefully you can try the Maurten brand for free! 🤞
SiS and Tailwind for me, just because it's easily available and not too expensive. I once tried a rhubarb and custard Torq gel though and it was incredible so may try and get a few more of those!
I used the Torq gels for years and they are a really good product but they can get a bit to sweet if you're taking them for hours 🤢
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Only used Powerbar and High5 gels in the past. Learning to use more real food now I’m getting into Ultras.
Yeap you definitely want to train your body to eat more solid foods if you're getting into the Ultra scene Matthew 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
For me, hands down Maurten.. I got a sensitive stumach. Maurten is amazing.. No troubles... Will be running my first Marathon in August. But have used them on long trail competitions and in my Marathon long run training. 6/6. But haven't tried them with coffein. Would have loved that.
Cheers from Norway, and a great Channel you got 😁🇳🇴🏞️🙌
Ps, Liked both Run4adventure and Maurten_Official on Instagram ✅
That's great that you've discovered the Maurten products already 😊
Best of luck with your first marathon and I hope training is going well 🏃♂️
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
We tend to stick to whole foods but occasionally use a Spring gel or Mountain fuel. Would be very interested to try Maurten, especially in the water as don't really get on with Tailwind. Like the idea of minimal taste 👌
Nutrition is such a tricky thing and I don't think you ever master it Martin! Best of luck with the giveaway and hopefully you'll get to try the Maurten products out for free 🤞
Thanks for watching 🙏
Soreen malt loaf has got me through my last 3 ultras!
You can't beat a bit of Malt loaf Martin! Butter or no butter that's the question? 🤔
Thanks for watching 🙏
Never tried Maurten before because of the price, I’ve always been happy enough on SiS and occasionally Tailwind, Trek bars and cheese n marmite sarnies 😋
I was put off by the price as well Tom but I'm glad I've tried it now because it is an impressive product! Hopefully you'll get to try some for free by winning the giveaway 🤞
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always 🙏
Like you I'm a big fan of the Torq gels. Don't mind High 5 as they slip down nice and easily. Don't tend to go for gels which are too thick.
I thought their bars where really tasty but I wasn't that impressed with their gels 🤔
They didn't seem to give me that much energy after taking them? Haven't tried their Jellys before though so I'll have to give them a go. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I ran 30 miles on the trail sunday and had maurten 320, i thought i was going to wake up sore but i woke up feeling great like when you go out binge drinking and to your amazement you wake up energized 😂.
I bought a bunch of the stuff for leadville 100
I use Gu because I have a strong stomach and they are super cheap. Tailwind in the water bottles. Huma if I’m racing, easy delivery
It definitely helps having a strong stomach! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, good luck 😊
I’ve used a range but settled on Torq but only certain flavours. To break up the routine I use malt loaf and homemade flapjacks with dates and coconut. If Maurten is as good as you say this may be my go to for the Dragon Back in Sept! I’d be keen to give it a spin! Cheers
You can't beat a bit of Malt loaf Mark! Hope your preparations for the Dragons back are going well and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
My go to is whatever i can grab at the time. Gels normally SIS or High5 with SIS energy powders
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway Sean🤞😊
👍Cheers. Dave
I'm hearing a lot of good feedback about the Skratch Labs nutrition, I'll have to give them a go at some point 👍
Really glad you enjoyed the review and not far away from 20k subs, thanks for the support 🙏
Currently using a mix of tailwind, lucho dillios and torq gels. Still trying to find the perfect fit but would love to try maurten, sounds like you get what you pay for! 🤑
That's a good mix of products Tom. Nutrition sure is a tricky thing and even once you've got a system in place it won't always work out 🤔
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, good luck in the giveaway 🤞😊
Currently experimenting with Mountain Fuel, Torq and SIS products. None of these seem to stand out but would love to try Maurten.
Fingers crossed Roland 🤞😊
I've used SiS mostly for both gels as well as energy drinks. I don't really use specialised products of any other kind. I like just basic apple bars or something like that for "real" food and I just wold down whatever is at aid stations. I'm fortunate in that I have never had stomach issues during ultras, no matter what I eat or drink.
It sounds like you've got a good strong stomach there, which always helps 👍
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
As far as gels go I was having one every 45mins - 1hr throughout the race 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Maurten, 33 Fuel Chia Gels, Dates - mix it up a bit mainly for texture change !!
It's good to mix it up a bit when it comes to your nutrition Rory 👍
Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🙏
Currently FutureLife protein bars, 32gi gels and Herbalife Hydrate (electrolyte) mix. I always struggled with nutrition, so I would LOVE to try this!
Thanks for watching and fingers crossed Mister B, hopefully you'll get to try out Maurten for free 🤞😊
Just ordered a multitude of different gels to find something new as I have suffered stomach cramps on last 2 long runs using high 5 slow release...
Always heard great things about maurten gels but never tried them....maybe a little pricey?
It is pretty pricey when you compare it to a lot of other products out there. But if you are struggling with your nutrition Si it might be worth a go 🤔
Hope you find something that works for you and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
What another great video and son informal... defo gonna try these... water is my go to currently 😂😂😂
Thanks that's very kind 😊
Really glad you enjoyed it and found it useful, thanks for the support 🙏
I just got the 320 mix. Excited to try it. For longer pushes, say 4+ hours, do you eat any solid food or just the 320 mix each hour plus Gel? Thanks!
It really depends how I'm feeling Chad. In the race if just run using the Maurten products I pretty much just had the drink mix and the Gels. A part from one banana at half way and a bag of crisps at 40 miles 👍
Hope this helps and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure Well i just took the 320 mix on an hour run. It's cooking here today in the states. 101F outside. I was shocked how sweet the mix was. Almost like a sugar water. But after 60 min it was great. body felt good.
@@Gentlemanwick
Glad to hear that Chad 👍
It has got a different consistency to it and there is some sweetness but that's because it's crammed full of calories, it's like rocket fuel 😊
Banana and a boiled egg for really long workouts. My nutrition mostly comes from Hammer Nutrition. I will so use Nuun and Bix.
Keeping it natural Scott, that's great if you can do that 😊
Thanks for watching the channel and good luck with the giveaway! 🤞
I use Pure gels and drink. They work well but have some stomach issues. Would love to give these guys a go.
Fingers crossed Chris and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🤞🙏
SIS Fruit Salad Gels and Ready Salted Hula Hoops are my go to energy source!!
You can't beat ready salted crips towards the end of a long race David. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
But I'm glad I've tried it now because the performance is impressive 👍
The Mountain feul jellys are actually very good, I did try their gels and I wasn't that impressed if I'm honest.
You can't beat a bit of Malt loaf when you're going long, brings back childhood memories 😊
Thanks for watching!
High 5 gels and tailwind for me. I've only got up to 19 miles but they seem to do job with no issues 👍🏻
If its working, it's working Claire 👍
Also 19 miles is a long way so I'm not sure its 'only' 19 miles 😉
Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment, best of luck with the giveaway 🙏
Useful video! I currently use Torq, SIS and Clif's Bloks, but I'm looking to try a new gel and drinks mix in preparation for my first marathon in Manchester. I'll definitely give this brand a whirl.
That's great Karen, I'm glad you found it useful 😊
We'll hopefully be a Manchester to, it's a great Marathon, you'll love it! Best of luck with your preparations and the giveaway 🤞
Thanks for watching!
@@Run4Adventure Thank you. 😊 Good luck for your future races and well done on your return from injury. I'll look out for you at Manchester! 😎
My go to at the moment is a mixture of the torq gels, mountain fuel sports jellies, ote super gels and lucho dulitto blocks
A great mix of products there Dominic 👍
The Mountain feul jellys and Lucho Dillitos are really good products! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Stuck to High5 purely because I've had no issues with the mix or gels. Maurten look good though!
If it works Andy stick with it, that's what I say 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
I use regular Maurten gels with caffeinated Tailwind drink mix. Love the gels but I've found the Maurten drink mix just a little too sweet for my liking. Took 9 Maurten 100 gels a few weeks ago for a 50 mile race
That's the thing with nutrition Carl it's so personal but I'm glad the Gels work well for you 👍
Hope the 50 miler went to plan and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Hi Lloyd, I use a mix of Maurten and Zoom energy bars. Love Maurten products.
That's great to hear Jai 👍

Romney's Kendal Mint Cake! Has saved me on a few ultras when I couldn't stomach other food/gels!
You can always really on the old favorite to get you out of trouble Zen! Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Don’t know if it’s the time of year in the hight of summer, though I feel knackered all the time! I put a SIS electrolyte in water for my 12k yesterday and it helps, though just feel so tired 😴. Will try the Mauten products 👍
The heat can definitely make a difference when it comes to energy levels but so can diet and hydration Richard 🤔
Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Hello Loyd, for me I personnaly use Näak Bars or Clif Bars and electrolytes from Decathlon. I wanted to test Maurten products sucha as the hydratation mixes and your video convinced me to try.
Awesome Gianni 👍
I really hope you enjoy the product and you never know you might win some on the giveaway!
I am using SIS products for now. I haven't used Maurten but I am interested in trying them out.
It's great product Svetlin 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated and best of luck with the giveaway 🙏
As I am triathlete I am currently trying out a few new options and I am certainly interested in trying out Maurten
You never know Mark, fingers crossed! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Just started using High 5 stuff on longer runs. Fairly new to the nutrition side of running so this would start me off nicely!
The High 5 stuff is pretty good and I used it for a few years. The Gels are nice and loose but they don't have a lot of calories in them when you compare them to other products on the market 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated Ruben 🙏
Much like you I have been using torq, never tried Maurten due to the price. For an ultra I go to my local coffee shop for some brownie 😋
The Torq gels are a really good product and they've got me through many races in the past Steven 👍
Hopefully you'll get to try the Maurten products out for free if you're lucky in the giveaway!
Thanks for watching 🙏😊
I've been a big fan of Tailwind and Babybel cheese 😂 for years, I'd love to try Maurten though as I quite often struggle to eat anything with too much flavour later in ultras
Thanks for watching and fingers crossed in the giveaway Steve! 🤞
My go tos are Mountain Fuel extreme energy drink, Maureen & Spring gels plus Nuun in the hot weather
A good mix of products there Lelore. Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thank you! For me variety is key, I do get bored of the same thing during long races
Im only up to half marathon distance so haven’t needed any gels. Just a cup of coffee and a banana before i run dose the trick. I do want to do my first marathon within the next year so will be considering gels
Yeap you'll definitely need to think of a nutrition strategy for your Marathon Paul, getting it right can make all the difference 😊

Big fan of the Maurten Gels!! Pricy but good!
Yeap totally agree Johan, it's expensive but very impressive! Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
It can take some time to get it right John and even then it doesn't work all the time 🤔
Not sure cheap sausage rolls are the way forward though 😉
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Torq gels in past. Quite sweet but nice flavours.
Currently working my way through an SIS variety box
Yeap I got on with the Torq gel and really enjoyed a lot of the flavours but they could get a bit sweat when you've been taking them for several hours! Thanks for watching Carl and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
I use Maurten gel for my half-marathon and it was the best experience I had whit gel.
That's great to hear Pier 👍
Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🙏
SIS Gels, but recently added Clif bars to the longer runs as I wanted to get used to running with real food.
That's a good plan Rob 👍
If you're planing on running long it's a good idea to practice eating more solid foods just so your body can get use to it 😊

Been using Tailwind and Scrath chews I have stomach issues with other products. Would like to try Maurten products
I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Scrath chews Sherry 👍
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Currently a big fan of Jelly Babies and Cliff bars........always willing to try something new though 👍
It's alway good to try out new things Nick because you never know how well it's going to work 👍
Thanks for watching and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
Tested Maurten Gels and the 320 drink (both decaf :) ). The gels are ok. Not feeling an impact when taking them but not bonking so they work. The drink not so good. The problem I encountered is that it can only be mixed with water that has a specific hardness. I had issues with it mixing during training so I stopped using it. I live in the countryside and the tap water has higher pH.
I'm glad the Maurten gels are working out for you Mihai 👍
Yeah you're right about the mixing of the drink mix, it is very specific. My water at home must be just right because it mixed really easily, I was actually shocked how easily 😳
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The only Maurten product I've used is the Gel 100 and like you, I found it the best gel I've ever tried. Really kick of energy and easy in the stomach. Can't use caffeinated products on runs though. 💩
My other go to energy brand is Mountain Fuel, really like their products and they do an unflavoured drink mix. 👍
The Gels are very impressive Stuart and I can have a similar reaction to caffeine when I run! 😳
I've tried a few of the mountain feul products, their bars are very tasty!
Thanks for watching mate 🙏
@@Run4Adventure the good thing about the Maurten gels are the carb to weight ratio, 25g carbs per 40g gel. Most others are about 20g carbs to +60g "gel".

Totally agree stauart, that's what I like about them 👍😊

Great review. I use Science in Sport

I haven't come across these Aaron, I'll check them out 👍
Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🙏
@@Run4Adventure I highly suggest you this spanish brand. All their products are really amazing. Developed and tested by Movistar Cyclism Team. Thanks heaps Loyd!!

No worries Aaron, I'll check them out 👍
Maurten have intrigued me but not tried them yet. Tailwind powder, Nakd bars and sometimes Mountain Fuel or Chia Charge flapjacks. Sadly I'm still looking for a deli sponsor for scotch eggs and pork pies!
Love it!! Maybe these scotch egg and pork pie companies are missing a trick 😂
Mountain fuel and Chia bars are both great products though 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I have tried a few different products from Gu gels but they are too hard to swallow when running. Nuun but feel there is better option and honey stinger gummies. Now i use Skratch a smaller company but feel it has been working pretty good so far. Always wanted to use Maurten but probably like everyone else the price is high for constant use through training.
I had exactly the same issue with the GU gels Scotty, just to thick and hard to swallow! 😕
I've been hearing lots of good things about Skratch products I'm going have to get some to try.
It's impressive product Roland 👌
It was the Salomon Advance 12 set I used for the race. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated, best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😉
@@Run4Adventure Great - so that's the one I use for Ultras too 👌🤩🤞😎
Love and use the Power Bar Energy Gels
But would realy like to try the Maurten ones out too!;)
You never know, good luck in the giveaway and thanks for watching 🙏😊
High5 energy gels, as they are not to gloopy. I like the sound of Maurton though 👍
I used the High 5 gels for a few years and your right they are nice and loose but they don't co tain as many calories as some products on the market 👍
Thanks for watching the channel and good luck in the give away 🙏
Iv been using maurten for races and time trails for a while now and swear by them, unfortunately not priced well enough for daily training so I use high5 for daily training
You're right James it is a bit pricey to use as a training product but perfect on race day 👍
Thanks for watching the channel and best of luck with the giveaway 🤞😊
You know I’m smashing those Lucho Dillitos! Always room for a hydrogel though 😜
Great roduct mate, super tasty! Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway 🤞😉
I use Vala energy gels. UK product and all natural ingredients.
