    Most important part of speakers for recording is understanding the speakers you're listening to and how they relate to other common systems. One popular brand is very bass heavy, people mix on them, but when they take their recording somewhere else they wonder where the bass went. JBL is know for crispy highs so have to remind yourself of that. No matter what speakers you get do a few mixes on them, then take that mix to friends and other places and listen to it and varous speakers so you can learn the sound of what your speakers. This is a big part of why all studios have Yamaha NS 10's they aren't the greatest sounding speaker, but they are a speaker all the working pros know the sound of and know how it will relate to the real world. Knowing your speakers is more important than the speaker themselves.

      you always adjust levels , but you dont need you speakers for that . You can use a tool to tell you how loud things are . RMS or linear .
      Just like that , you can mix with any speaker system , the story about how mix sounds good if mixed on this , or that , its just not true . Marketing .
      I am a producer for decades , and i can mix on anything . I have tools to tell me exactly whats going on . In all aspects . Frequency , levels , dynamics , you name it .
      So ill probably get this pair .
      Not because of their size of sound , but because of the shape .

    • @dedskin1
      @dedskin1 4 роки тому +2

      @Bradley Johnson ive learned it in school and by working , if you mean theory if you mean what tools for example izotope tonal balance will tell you how youre song sounds you dont even need to hear it .
      Waves and Neuton 2 will have all the plug ins and tools you will ever need .

    Hi, I have such monitors, and a sound card, I connected it all via TRS cables, and the sound through BT is many times louder than through TRS, maybe I need to connect it with TS mono-RCA mono cables? Don’t you have such a problem? Maybe there’s a problem with my sound card? Or my JBL? I need the clearest and loudest sound to mix

    Very well presentation! I actually bought this pair after watching your video. However, I feel like a need to a subwoofer too. I've also read great reviews for the JBL LSR10S. Can you detail it a bit how you connected your 104s to the LSR310S? What cables do I need, and where do they go? Thank you!

    The only issue I've had with it is the connection between the 2. 3 times now the right speaker has gone out and I've had to clip the wire and strip a new section. Other than that, I love these guys. They work really well, pretty even on sound. Solid 9.5/10

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816 2 місяці тому

      You should tin the wires before you put them into the connectors. The clip connectors over time can crush bare wire and cause the connection to degrade.

    • @SanjayC
      @SanjayC  4 роки тому +7

      Great question. You'll need to get a powered subwoofer that is meant to be used with studio monitors (get one that has 1/4" jacks or RCA inputs). You will route the output from your audio interface or computer to the subwoofer first and then the subwoofer will have outputs that route to the JBL 104s.

    • @junglist1soldier
      @junglist1soldier 4 роки тому

      @@trippybeats4823 I was there too but, I'm going with the Newer PreSonus E5's because of the front port's & the variable space adjustments. Not only that but, I need some bass but not too much like the Rokit's & some other's. I do need to preserve real estate but, I know I'd regret getting the 104BT's instead of a class a/b dedicated bi-amp design. I can't stand having those tacky red & black cheap speaker wire's going all the way across to the slave/passive speaker. I
      It's weird too right now because the JBL 305MKII's are $30 cheaper than the newer PreSonus Monitor's. The reviews are great also! Since I can't get a powered studio sub yet, I'll manage with the E5. Dedicated class a/b amps also draw less current than class D amp's. Class D's are better suited for sub's anyhow.
      JBL should have made the 104bt passive speaker wireless so no cheap looking wire's get strung across or, something else instead of that tacky outdated option. Come on guys! Supposed to be busting out with the latest technology like your waveguides yo! Sheesh What's so hard about placing port's towards the front face of a monitor also? Is it really better to deflect lower frequencies off a wall sitting on a desk? Some work area's/studio's have too many objects or, no place to even consider that method.
      So, JBL get back in the lab & give the professionals what they really want from a modern monitor. I can give a few tips right off the bat but, I'm not getting a jbl paycheck. Yet. 🤓

    You are a musician! How did you not hear that the sound is plastic and cheap. For example I tried connecting through an sound interface and directly to MacBook, same result - low quality sound. Power wires are poorly inserted into the monitor socket. I did not expect this quality from JBL. My wife and I are not musicians, but when we hooked up and listened this JBL, we both looked at each other, packed back , and sent it back. Your review is more like an advertisement than a true review.

    The speakers of the laptop have similar frequency response to this speaker(60hz to 20khz)…
    Even if you made a video on the MacBook for music, many didn’t mention regarding its frequency response…
    It turns out to be a portable solution for music producers…

      I'd only give them 3 out of 5 stars if I'm honest... First I tried the the big jack style leads but the amount of noise was unbearable , I have a Roland quad capture but even with the noise cancelling switched on there was still a noticeable hum , in the end I had to use the head phone socket output on my quad capture and this gives a good low noise floor, but if I then connect head phones to the speaker head phone socket I can hear a wierd noise in the background , which you can only hear when there is no other sound passing through the speakers... With this all put aside the actual sound quality of the speakers is pretty good and I can use them to make and listen to music.. so for the price I'm happy enough, just not blown away!

      Honestly, any subwoofer will work. But make sure you get one that has the right inputs and outputs. You'll need RCA or 1/4 inch connections as opposed to just speaker wire connections. I have the Presonus T8 sub which works well. They are not cheap, but you'll be happy.

    As an amateur musician looking to to buy first time monitor speakers, are these worth it over the presonus eris 4.5 or Mackie cr4? All fall within similar price ranges and i like all 3, but these do look really good and very portable which is a plus point for my small desk. I'm gonna use them to practice guitar as well as mix my recordings, genres mainly rock and metal.

      You may have a tough time without a sub. Regular speakers just can't get the super low frequencies you'll need to hear. I know some trap producers use Yamaha HS5s - but they are not in this price range. Your best option is to look for something used. Even then you may have to spend a couple hundred more.
