  • In a recent episode I asked our viewers if they could 'visualize' a nice buck in this overgrown field as I was working it up to create a new bottom field Missouri micro food plot. Well it all comes full circle today! Join me for the complete process from start to finish as I found this severely overgrown bottom field, cleared it, terminated it, bush hogged it, chisel disced it, planted it, set a trail cam on it, and then realized complete success!
If anyone tells you that food plotting for deer is easy, then they are simply full of BS.. The fact of the matter is that there is MORE that is NOT in your control than is! But even then, IF you do everything right, by the book, by the numbers you will still face a significant chance of your fall food plots for deer failing! WHY?? Well, while this is a complicated answer due to your specific geographical region, your weather patterns, your invasive species growth, your area's weed chemical resistence, your soil composition, and much more all come into play. But in reality, the MAIN struggle that you will have, regardless of all of the other situational factors that you will face is that Mother Nature can be your number one enemy when it comes to fall food plots! And this means much more than just moisture and rain; please let me explain.. Noxious species, grasses, chemical tolerance, soil properties, weed competition, soil moisture, and the list goes on, but when it comes to successful fall food plots for deer there is a lot to take into consideration! For example if you have land in an area that has become roundup resistant, that will come into play. If you have poor soil and bad timing of the few rains you get that will come into play. If you have undesirable, invasive plant species that will come into play. And heck, even if you do EVERYTHING RIGHT, and by the book, step by step but Mother Nature deals you one set of deuces after another, you might still be doomed to fail! But fear not, if you are persistent, and are willing to do the best that you can when it comes to weed control, weed management, soil preparation and planting methods, you can overcome many of the negative food plot battles and end up with a beautiful and nutritious fall food plot that will attract deer and other wildlife throughout the entire fall season! And depending on what you plant, it may sustain them until early winter, which in my book, is a huge success! So join me for today's fall food plot updates from our new Southern Missouri farm in the Ozark's as I do all that I can, at least all that is within my control, to make the best fall food plots for deer and wildlife and I'll take you along with my on this new epic journey, one step at a time! This fall I have tried many experiments on fall food plot soil preparations, so if you are interested in seeing them all then hit the like button and subscirbe as I will be rolling them out in the coming weeks. But for today's food plot updates lets start with some recent and relevant food plots episodes before we get to today's update:

So for today's episode I will try to take advantage of mother nature offering up a couple of nice rains during late August, 2024, which is pretty rare! I will overseed some already planted plots, I will 'overseed' some worked up dirt areas that have not been planted yet, and I will overseed some granular fertilizer on some plots that have been planted and have germinated as well. Let's see how things progress in the coming weeks on this epic battle against the cattle fields and hayfield of this beautiful and rugged Ozark's Mountain property that I am trying to transform into a great deer and wildlife property!

Just plant it and forget it. Bucks need some areas that get no pressure or intrusive activity. But have to admit the plot did well according to plan.

That’s a pretty plot in the woods. Reminds me of that one on your IL farm that had the watering hole that turned orange/cat tails. I think you had your Banks blind on that one too
