Not Miyazaki - he was working on Bloodborne while another team did Dark Souls 2.
Some quickfire tips: level ADP to improve animations and s (dodging, drinking, using items). Keep a backup weapon or repair powder, weapons repair automatically at bonfires as long as they aren't completely broken. Broken weapons require a blacksmith. Get used to fighting with a small healthbar, save your effigies for bosses.
Btw, the Pursuer was totally optional, you didn't need to fight him. Good luck!
Those tips would have made my life a lil easier, tad bit upset about that pursuer bar but I have a feeling y'all wanted me to fight him🤔

@@NotPolarEX It's good to learn that fight anyway, for reasons! Although DS2 is objectively the worst Soulsborne, it's still a great game once you get going. Lot of experimental ideas. For example: most enemies have limited lives, kill them 15x and they stop respawning. Until/unless you use a Bonfire Ascetic in that area to refresh the count... or join the Covenant of Champions to give them infinite respawns.

@@swaswj414 I'll disagree on it being objectively the worst Soulsborne, as for me that title is DS3. In fact this is tied to being my personal favorite of the Soulsborne title, and it's a good an easy game game when you learn how to play it. Definitely not objective though despite it's special differences. Fully an opinionated take.

Miyazaki did overlook/supervise the making of the game… he just didn’t play a huge role because he was busy with bloodborne. But they ran stuff by him and he tested stuff.:.

A couple of tips:
1- dodging i frames are tied to the adp stat. So level that up
2- rolling speed and distance is by the weight but it's gradual. There is no medium roll at 30% till 70% like elden ring, there is a light roll below 70%, the lower the weight the faster the dodge, again, gradually.
3- hollowing is gradual to 50%hp. You get a ring that boosts that to 75% when max hollowed
4- Yes, estus is the same as dark souls 3, you find shards to increase the number of sips, and bones to burn to increase the potency of the sip.

@@NotPolarEX because people called DS1 easy because of its rolling mechanics, similar to Elden Ring. And just like Shadow of the Erdtree, Fromsoft took it personally.
If you ever try to fight that pursuer boss again (by resetting the area), try to use the giant crossbows to almost insta kill him.
The usual strategy being:
1. Parry him in the beginning
2. Rush towards the left crossbow
3. Lit the guy up
I heard the game was designed to punish those who rush through so just like how the enemies just entered to clap you after the boss they will not lose aggro so be aware that is you rush to a boss arena and got the whole city after you they will be waiting for you at the end unless its in an area they cannot reach

Ds2 isn’t bad
It's not that bad but some of mechanics make it a chore to play
People complain about the hitboxes when every dark souls game has hitboxes issues, I even heard someone say something stupid where the healing gems are op, but they forgot that humanity fully heals you in ds1, while the gem is a heal overtime, in my opinion ds2 is better than ds3, because everytime I play ds3, I get bored, and play ds2

its not bad,its just worse than every other souls type game fromsoft has put out
One big tip for this game:
Do NOT run through because you will get ganked and chased to the ends of the Earth by every enemy you passed along the way. Either use a eanged attack to agro one at a time or slowly take them all out. Patience is a virtue that saves you in this game.
If you plan to continue DS2 all I can recommend is don't try a bleed build. Almost all the bosses and mobs are made of armor so it won't work. Next I recommend leveling up adaptability and gaining Estes shards and sublime bone dust. PS that lady you saw by the giant tree sells the key to the blacksmith and becomes your lifeline for lifegems once you exhaust her dialogue

They tied the i frames of your dodge to the adp stat (more specifically agility) so you start out with less i frames on your dodge at the start which is why youre taking chip damage on dodges and one of the reasons ppl think the game has bad hitboxes, by 20 it should be more normal
This game went really hard on build variety so you start out stupid weak, but then by the end are extremely op
Theres alot of secrets and smaller gimmicks throughout the game alot of which revolve around the torch or a enemy/boss being super weak to certain damage types (poison kinda op and the torch is highly utilized in puzzles)
Theres estus shards and bone marrow ash that upgrade the flask (theres a shard in the well at majula if you hit the rock) life gems are a consumable you buy and will get better as the game progresses. Estus is slower but fills more faster, life gems are faster but are more of an over time heal, generally lifegems are better in the heat of combat and estus while exploring at least at the higher tiers of lifegems
Adp and dex also increase item use, animations with the environment, and cast speed
This game also has a different feel to its engine which takes some time to get used to if youve been playing the newer games but because of that some builds that wouldnt work in those games are broken here
P.s. that giant was the king of giants and in the late game it shows you why you are in fact his biggest op

@@NotPolarEX dodge roll wasnt as cemented as the main way of avoiding damage the way it is now, they also made other options better than the other souls like parry being much stronger and its easier to trade hits with enemies. Thats why i thinks its harder to come to this game after playing ds3 and latter games cause it feels and plays different from those games, but at the same time gives some of the most unique features, build options, and viability to playstyles that the other games dont.
You need to level your Adaptability (ADP), it will make using the flask quicker and will give you better chance of dodging attacks with your rolls. ADP controls your agility stat and you ideally want to get it to around 100-105 to get the best chance of dodging attacks

some tips
since rushing areas in this game makes it harder a bow with poison arrows is your best friend in his game
for heals there are items that you give them to emerlad and she gives you more flasks( there is one on top of the roof when you first meet pursuer)
also if you spend enogh stuff from the old hag then talk to her she relocates and sell you infinite lifegems
Saying DS2 is the worst Souls game is like saying Return of the Jedi is the worst of the OG trilogy. Worst or not, it’s still a great game, just like Jedi is a great movie.

To heal faster and dodge better (more i-frames) you need agility, which goes up by a lot when you level adaptability, and by a little when you level up attunement.
You need flask shards to get more flasks, there’s one in the well in Majula (hit the rock that’s on the edge) and one in the basement of the manor (find the guy who likes maps in the fort you were in, he has the key)
No one has ever complained about the visuals of DS2.
for the heals, you gotta found Estus Flask Shards and Sublime Bone Dust, you can upgrade it from Emerald Herald

How does the game not make sense if the enemy attacks you and you get hit? Don't enter boss fog with enemies attacking you.

I saw that you were wondering how to get more heals and to do that you can buy them from the merchant in the forest of fallen giants at the second bonfire at first you can only buy 10 but after you spend 12000 souls and exhausted her yapping she will move to majula and sell infinite of them and to get better estus you need to find estus flask shards and bone dust and burn the dust at the majula bonfire and give the shards to the emerald herald
The frustration is real in this game, and yet, I absolutely loved it.

@@NotPolarEX ds2 leveling is a little different, usually you might get close to level 100 in other souls games but ds2 you can get to like level 300 on your first playthrough because of how much less souls is needed to level
its recommended to level adp to like level 30 or to the point where your agility is 100 so you can roll normally

DS2 is not a bad game as some want to call it, it's just not a very good Soulsborne game. So being called the worst of the Souls games is indeed accurate
ds2 hate is way overblown. its a good game, and most of the common complaints either aren't true, or are problems in every from souls game. honestly imo it's about on par with ds1 and demon's souls, and only a bit behind ds3, bloodborne, & elden ring.
stamina is def more limited than in later games, & there are fewer dodge s by default - medium roll starts off closer to fat roll in elden ring in terms of dodge frames. There's a stat to raise it, but it's usable at the base level, & a lot of attacks can be avoided with careful positioning without dodge rolls.

Personally I'm okay with ADP because it allows you to upgrade your roll with a couple stat points instead of needing to lower equip load AND boost endurance/vitality

I feel like ds2 is where they tried new things and yea for some that might be to much. But really look at what first showed up in ds2 and then made it to the other games. It is a lot. So ok maybe "Polished" more is not right, but only when I compare it to ds3, coz ds1 was way uglier and more unfinished stuff and just feel clunky.
@@AllramYT I genuinely don’t see how anyone can have this take tbh. DS2 is WAAAAAAY clunkier than DS1. The hitboxes just feel awful. When you parry, you gotta wait for the enemy to fall over before capitalizing on it. Rolling just feels hella awkward, even after investing in agility.
I started DS2 immediately after finishing DS1 and felt like I was playing a game that was older than even Demon’s Souls. I was just constantly frustrated at how janky and off, every single movement and attack felt. I mean hell, I was using a fricking dagger and it would get caught on literally EVERY obstacle in existence. I have never clipped on walls so much in ANY other souls game.
DS1 had a such a well designed and compact map layout. It made the world feel like a giant interconnected labyrinth, to the point where by the end of the game, I could pretty much close my eyes and navigate the entire thing in my head. DS2 on the other hand, doesn’t feel nearly as well thought out. And with every area that’s visually stunning, there’s like 3 others that just feel like filler to make the game longer.
This is also the only game where I actually straight up gave up on finishing one of the DLC areas. Why? Because trying to see enemies in a fricking blizzard was giving me a MASSIVE headache. Whoever thought that that would be a fun area should be blacklisted from game design.
And you can’t tell me DS1 was more “unfinished” when DS2’s main hub was MADJULA. The biggest waste of potential in the entire series. It was painfully obvious that there was supposed to be more done with the area. I mean hell, we get a fricking player house. The only Souls Game where the player gets to own a house… yet absolutely NOTHING was done with it. It just sits there. No decorations, no mannequins for placing armor, nothing. Not even a bonfire and maiden inside of it, to give us an actual motivation to visit it frequently.
And then there’s that cartographer in the basement, who’s just kind of there. I would bet hard money he was supposed to be the guy you talk to, for adding customization to the house.
I mean hell, there’s also that pyromancer girl, who wears clothes you give her. Doesn’t that just come across suspiciously like a mannequin for armor display? It’s like she became the alternative after they got told to abandon the house customization they were planning.
And again, the entirety of Madjula was supposed to be this sort of last bastian of normalcy in this dying world. I was fully expecting it to sort of grow into a more lively and sustainable settlement over the course of the game. Would have been such a nice change of pace for the series and would have really cemented the cyclical nature of world, but no. Again, nothing was done with it. It’s just there. If there wasn’t maiden and blacksmith in the village, you’d have basically no real reason to return to it.

The main game has only few good bosses
so, in all of my honesty i do not think DS2 is not a bad game. i do believe that the adaptability stat was not a good idea to have. where the i-frames when dodging are determined by a stat is just a terrible idea to have.

Honestly, I could overlook the clunkiness and the s stuff, if they followed through on building up Majula. I feel like there were so many cool ideas there that just didn’t get any depth whatsoever. This is the only souls game where we basically get our own player house, yet you can’t do ANYTHING with it, whatsoever. No decorations, no setting up manakins to place armor on. We don’t even get a bonfire inside of it, making it hella easy to just forget about.
As for the rest of Majula, I think it would have been so much cooler if we got an inversion of the normal Dark Souls formula of everything slowly getting darker and emptier, and instead had us build up the town into a sustainable settlement, with NPCs and other improvements.
Out of all the Souls games, I really gotta say, DS2 is the one that feels the most… unfinished. Which sucks, because I do think there’s a lot from it that should have become mainstays of the series.

Aye bro just go to malentia in the forest of giants the merchant and just hit talk on her dialogue option and she’ll eventually say “I gotta get outta here” or sum like that and she’ll be in Majula where you can get infinite life gems from her for like 300 and if you spend 10k she’ll give you something nice
Keep in mind she’ll only move after you beat the last giant but you’ve already done that so she should move after you go through all her dialogue

Pursuer is actually an insanely easy boss as his moves are very telegraphed and predictable.

Buy more lifegems. Level ADP. Git Gud the game isn't bad you just have to play it differently. Don't come at it like it's Dark Souls or Elden Ring. It's a whole different animal. Also to level your Estus flask there is an Estus flask shard in town
Hit the rock sitting on the well and take the shard to the Emerald Herald. Also just as a pro tip in DS2 most enemies can just be straffed instead of rolling. Just walk around one side or the other and stay close and you can dodge most attacks 😂
I have been waiting and hoping for this :D I love DS2 Sotfs and all I can say is look at the world and use the items :D

For instance you asked about your flask. Close to the pit in Mar"i"jula you can find a "small" well :P try and do something there.
And last piece of advice for now, illusion walls are not hit they are opened like doors, And there are invis mobs just sitting on the ground close to light sources.

Ekhem, actualy you were hit by alot... and it has nothing to do with hitboxes, since animations of dodging are tied up to it, here there is not as much "invincibility frames" like in Elden Ring while Shadow of the Erdtree has fucked up hitboxes and sometimes you are not hitting enemy since when the animation start he was "invincible'...😂

ds2 was made for hardcore soulsfan who wanted a challenge thats why it is punishing.

U need range weapons in this game.
You rely on Lifegems for heals, your Estus ALWAYS fully heals, thats why it makes you imobile to make it risk/reward. You find Estus shards and hand them over to the Emerald Herald for more flasks
