As someone who has beaten the game once or twice I would recommend not using the lock on system, unless you use magic or a bow. Also resins and upgrading your weapon will help you out a lot. Good luck my man don't you dare go hollow!
I use the lock-on as the fight is more natural AND you avoid to be backstabbed randomly because you just turned your backs to the enemy... what can't happen in lock-on mode.

Now if you are talking about PvP that's a whole different story, but I just do PvE. I do hard challenge runs and lock on will screw you over more than you think. Lock on is even worse for duo fights Especially O&S because you can be locked on to one of them and the other one is just lurking behind you and you will never know if they are about to hit you or not because you can not see them. Now if you do not have the lock on, on you can position the camera to see both enemies at all times. DS1 has the worst lock on system in the series and this coming from someone who really likes DS1. When locked on you can not run which is a very useful tool during normal fights and boss fights. When locked on you will always roll when pressing the roll/run button. It does not matter if you hold the button to run, you will roll when you would want to run. I never played DS2 but they fixed this in DS3 for sure. I have tried multiple times to use the lock on in my runs and it has caused me to die more times than not, but at the end of the day if you enjoy using it that's perfectly fine. I have nothing against it, this is just my personal experience with the mechanic with 400 hours and 10 challenge runs.
@@x_mau9355 Also I should note I do increase the camera speed to help with not locking on. The default speed works fine, but when you get to some of the faster bosses it helps to have the camera speed up to 8 or 9

And yes for sure the danger is to be backstabbed by OTHER enemies nearby but I'm not that stupid to ignore them. Generally speaking you should avoid 1vsMANY in DS or you get destroyed even by the lamest enemy.. so I am just saying that locking on a target is useful. Probably you have also seen those "thank you DS" video when the player suddenly turns the backs to the enemy in front of him and gets punished by a backstab. THAT is avoidable with the locking on. AND playing cautious avoids the 1vsMANY situation. I can also better control the aggro walls, running around without lock-on exposes you to aggro other enemies nearby. Finally with lock-on you can parry slightly better, as the distance is shorter. On the other hand without lock on the backstabbing is somehow easier as your player is faster and runs around the enemy. So as experienced player I use both. I just find the lock-on useful... and I use it a lot. I switch also a lot. 😎

Yes should you fight 1v1 but this isn't the case for two boss fights in the game. Also it is easier to get around enemies in DS1 when you're not locked on to them. Also you don't have to worry about the Camera screwing you over. The lock on also will randomly switch targets from time to time without you choosing to. Also it's bad at targeting enemies you want from, this doesn't happen often but does occur. I have beaten the game with and without lock on and without is 100% easier. You say you don't understand bc you have always used lock on. Also when you're not locked on it's on you to be aware and use camera positioning to know your soundings. Again when being locked on with multiple engines can screw you up or screw over. I am not saying it happens all the time but as someone who has beaten the game with just the skull lantern, it would have been hell bc of the bad hit boxes of some bosses and the lantern itself, but not every boss just most. Like I stated I think it's fine if you use it but to say it's objectively good I have to disagree from a mechanical view. In general fromsofts lock on systems have never been that great. They are just starting to get decent but still have a ways to go in comparison to other games. If you want to understand what I mean fight bell gargoyles or O&S without lock on and you will see it's easier to be aware of both bosses. I would recommend even testing both to understand. I understand where you're coming from but I can't agree with using it but not going to say you can't. I will say play the game the way you want to play it. You paid for it so do what you find fun. Of all the souls games this is the one where a shield is the most needed. Especially until you get your vigor up way more. Damn, If only you had scrolled over at the first merchant.He sells so many good weapons and shields. Love the Taurus Demon "tutorial" 😂😂😂
Not true about shields, its almost the same and completely fine without it. May be even its easier here without, than in ds3+, cause enemies here are slow.
@Elcnar Ds1 had the worst controls by FAR and to combat that, there was more emphasis on shields. Get a 100% shield and the game becomes much easier. The enemies are slower but when the enemy hits the shield they are stunned. Ds1 is NOT easier without a shield on someone's first playthrough. Like I said, until you get your vigor up, a shield makes the early game a joke. Especially when you can only roll in 4 directions when locked on

Attack the tail of the gargoil for a good weapon, Upgrade your weapons at Andre's it's super important. And take your time exploring, it's an important part of the game
You can get 10 flasks to heal if you Kindle the bonfire but to Kindle, you have to be a human by reversing hollowing you can do both things with 2 humanities in a bonfire you get humanities by looting or by beating a boss. Later in the game when you beat a particular boss you can get up to 20 flask

So if you're not locked on you can roll like how you can in elden ring(omni-directional). Maybe give it a shot & see if you like it 🤷♂️. I don't lock on for 1v1 fights except a couple bosses.
This is the worse dark souls advice ever, because there are literally areas in this game where you have to run instead of fight. Just 2 which I can think of: > the bridge at 14:41 > and later on when he is in Lost Izalith where he just needs to run past the first enemies

Best way to play Dark Souls 1 is without locking on imo. You can roll more freely that way. I only lock on to block or use projectiles and then disable it

Get a stronger wrapon, itll make the gargoyles fight easier, i suggets the helbert or if u kill one of the black nights they have a a 20% chance of dropping their weapon, (they do not respawn after u kill them), if u get the black night weapon youll be set for the rest of the game as their one of the strongest weapons to have
For the gargoyles, i found it best to be guarding with a shield at all times and to prioritize your spacing. Don't be locked on all the time, and try not to roll forward as much. The fire breath from the second one can be avoided by simply moving to the side, but keep an eye on the other gargoyle when trying to punish the breath attack. The key to this fight is patience.

The only info youll be needed, everything else is spoilers: 1. Boss weapons from boss souls are kinda tricky here. You need a lvl +10 specific item and ascend it by using boss souls at blacksmith in Anor-Londo. For instance Quelaag soul is for katana and curved sword. 2. The heavier your armor - easier the game. Bigger weapons - same. Bigger shields - same. Magic - same. DEX weapons pool have -1 size compared to STR. Choose your destiny. Since poise and defense are god in this game you pretty much may touch yourself with it, make rolls obsolete, if you want. Also footwork is strong in this one, try it )

The only tip for DS beginners is: be humble, as the game will humble you down anyway. Then everybody can beat the game (assuming that the player's IQ is higher than room temperature of course)
Use lock-on only to change direction for bloching. In any other situation its easier to run for back without lock-on. Plus boss armour soaks flat damage, heavier weapons are insane in ds1. 30% of gargoyles hp per swing -_- Parry windows are generous, you can parry humanouds with bare hand (same parry timing as medium shield). Weapon resins? Less than 25% equip load for fastroll?
the simplest way to beat DS is the to be a mage. But the begin is harder, and nope, you can't use the Zweihander as mage. BUT if you grind enough in the erly stages, then you become gradually unstoppable. As knight he could pile up on INT and become a Mage ... he could struggle less at start as he has a balanced charchter, but he should improve his sword, and buy a long sword... otherwise LOL

I played ER as my first FromSoft game and since played Sekiro, DS3 and most recently Bloodborne along with games like Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. But DS1 Nd DS2 never got to me. The movement is so slow (DS1) and the enemy placement seems more unfair to me than even in Lords of the Fallen. Maybe some day I’ll give it another try, but for now I’m fine with the games I have mastered (not yet through the Bloodborne DLC - would have been nice, if someone told me you shouldn’t kill Gehrman before completing the DLC 😂).

When I saw the title, I was really thought, "Oh my sweet summer child, how wrong you'll realize you are." If you think this is hard, then youll see how hard Dark Souls 2 is. Not SotFS, no, the original!
Also, recommendations are: Use shields if you're not comfortable with just weapons(as you already know), there are a multitude of different areas that can be unlocked from the firelink shrine off rip(but I don't think you have the master key), and be extra careful when you meet the Caprus Demon, also there is a bird nest near the Undead Asylum that gives you items depending on what you give it, there is an online trading list on the DS Fextralife wikipage.
@@belaschmidt1770 I have to say it's a matter of how you play. I tried both and I find the constant dodging and rolling around pffff ! I get that you have to, but you know it's something that the game forces you to do. Then, if you play without shield usually you bear 1 weapon and you do 2-hands attacks, what draw your stamina down... and that's not good. So the game basically wants you to constant dodge-dodge-hit dodge-dodge-dodge-hit.... pffff I hate that actually. So yes at the end I do use the shield too and I alternate one and two.hands attacks... with simple shield-blocks. I don't know. I'm not saying I'm a one of those "streaming players" like those who take "no damage" because they keep rolling even when they are miles away. So f. that... I take my risks and wear a shield.
to experience true dark souls go back and play the original DS. I got/getting back into the series to stream after a break of a couple of years and man the remastered version is so much easier in the sense you get so much more drops and resources, summoned npc's definitely do more dmg and better a.i. and I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you get more souls from bosses than in the original. have you tried DS2? if you want a truly unfair game and to torture yourself play it. I'm playing through it again atm and man did I forget how painful the start of the game is (if you don't cheese the game) till you can get leveled up. its an awesome game in how many different move set/ fighting style and customablity you have with you characters doh, if you can get past the pain of starter game 😂
Just got to love how some cocky player, comes in and talks about how great they are and easy it's gonna be for them, even though most people that played the same game say it's really hard only to find out, it's HARD! Not for me though ("It was harder when I first played it and had problem's") but I've played and beaten this game like maybe 10 times at least, for me it's still my favorite of the souls games but that's just me.
One free tip: in DS1, armour actually works. The trade-off is that it can trivialise some bosses, as it can make face-tanking an option.

Best advice you can get is don't run past enemies cause if you slip up once they will give you the most devious backshots oat

Get a stronger wrapon, itll make the gargoyles fight easier, i suggets the helbert or if u kill one of the black nights they have a a 20% chance of dropping their weapon, (they do not respawn after u kill them), if u get the black night weapon youll be set for the rest of the game as their one of the strongest weapons to have
Black Knight weapons also have a damage buff against Demon enemies, which them there gargoyles count as I think
Hmmm so I have a choice between katanas or they black knights weapons...
For the gargoyles, i found it best to be guarding with a shield at all times and to prioritize your spacing. Don't be locked on all the time, and try not to roll forward as much. The fire breath from the second one can be avoided by simply moving to the side, but keep an eye on the other gargoyle when trying to punish the breath attack. The key to this fight is patience.

Love how he started by thinking the game would be easy. Granted the gargoyles are a pain in the ass, I'm a DS1 veteran and I still struggle with them whenever I start a new save. The difficulty curve on the first bosses is kinda bizarre too, it's all over the place. This gon' be good, I'll stick around

The only info youll be needed, everything else is spoilers:
1. Boss weapons from boss souls are kinda tricky here. You need a lvl +10 specific item and ascend it by using boss souls at blacksmith in Anor-Londo. For instance Quelaag soul is for katana and curved sword.
2. The heavier your armor - easier the game. Bigger weapons - same. Bigger shields - same. Magic - same. DEX weapons pool have -1 size compared to STR. Choose your destiny. Since poise and defense are god in this game you pretty much may touch yourself with it, make rolls obsolete, if you want. Also footwork is strong in this one, try it )

The only tip for DS beginners is: be humble, as the game will humble you down anyway.
Then everybody can beat the game (assuming that the player's IQ is higher than room temperature of course)
If only you knew how easy the gargoyles are ...
Use lock-on only to change direction for bloching. In any other situation its easier to run for back without lock-on.
Plus boss armour soaks flat damage, heavier weapons are insane in ds1. 30% of gargoyles hp per swing -_-
Parry windows are generous, you can parry humanouds with bare hand (same parry timing as medium shield).

Yo suggestion use the Zwhihander found in the graveyard at firelink shrine I love great swords
the simplest way to beat DS is the to be a mage.
But the begin is harder, and nope, you can't use the Zweihander as mage. BUT if you grind enough in the erly stages, then you become gradually unstoppable.
As knight he could pile up on INT and become a Mage ... he could struggle less at start as he has a balanced charchter, but he should improve his sword, and buy a long sword... otherwise LOL

I look at the title and think “Yeah, obviously, DS1 is easy”, but people say that sarcastically a lot
I played ER as my first FromSoft game and since played Sekiro, DS3 and most recently Bloodborne along with games like Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. But DS1 Nd DS2 never got to me. The movement is so slow (DS1) and the enemy placement seems more unfair to me than even in Lords of the Fallen. Maybe some day I’ll give it another try, but for now I’m fine with the games I have mastered (not yet through the Bloodborne DLC - would have been nice, if someone told me you shouldn’t kill Gehrman before completing the DLC 😂).

When I saw the title, I was really thought, "Oh my sweet summer child, how wrong you'll realize you are." If you think this is hard, then youll see how hard Dark Souls 2 is. Not SotFS, no, the original!
Also, recommendations are: Use shields if you're not comfortable with just weapons(as you already know), there are a multitude of different areas that can be unlocked from the firelink shrine off rip(but I don't think you have the master key), and be extra careful when you meet the Caprus Demon, also there is a bird nest near the Undead Asylum that gives you items depending on what you give it, there is an online trading list on the DS Fextralife wikipage.

You have a Shield!!! Shield is King in DS 1. Also parrying would be really useful
you can parry with the bare hand. But you can't parry bosses and in general what is bigger than you (but not Gwyn for a programming error).

@@belaschmidt1770 I have to say it's a matter of how you play. I tried both and I find the constant dodging and rolling around pffff ! I get that you have to, but you know it's something that the game forces you to do. Then, if you play without shield usually you bear 1 weapon and you do 2-hands attacks, what draw your stamina down... and that's not good. So the game basically wants you to constant dodge-dodge-hit dodge-dodge-dodge-hit.... pffff I hate that actually.
So yes at the end I do use the shield too and I alternate one and two.hands attacks... with simple shield-blocks. I don't know. I'm not saying I'm a one of those "streaming players" like those who take "no damage" because they keep rolling even when they are miles away. So f. that... I take my risks and wear a shield.

to experience true dark souls go back and play the original DS. I got/getting back into the series to stream after a break of a couple of years and man the remastered version is so much easier in the sense you get so much more drops and resources, summoned npc's definitely do more dmg and better a.i. and I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you get more souls from bosses than in the original. have you tried DS2? if you want a truly unfair game and to torture yourself play it. I'm playing through it again atm and man did I forget how painful the start of the game is (if you don't cheese the game) till you can get leveled up. its an awesome game in how many different move set/ fighting style and customablity you have with you characters doh, if you can get past the pain of starter game 😂
Just got to love how some cocky player, comes in and talks about how great they are and easy it's gonna be for them, even though most people that played the same game say it's really hard only to find out, it's HARD!
Not for me though ("It was harder when I first played it and had problem's") but I've played and beaten this game like maybe 10 times at least, for me it's still my favorite of the souls games but that's just me.
