I own both these units and they both sound amazing. I perceive the rme a touch darker, I seem to prefer the Mytek this week. Next week it might change. For me, It does depend on the music and the weather 🤣
Thanks for your comparison video. Both are great DACs and I would be happy with either one (I actually own the RME and the Liberty DAC II). But in comparison, the Mytek sounded much more natural and alive. I am a drummer and I always listen for the realism in the percussion and the Mytek wins for me. Plus, the vocals just sounded more real with the Mytek - like the artist was in the room with me. Very nice!
Sorry guys, I think Mytek is like a younger person, faster, more attack, it might presented to be harsh soundings. I will say it is closer to the live sound. On the other hand RME is like a middle aged person, mature but not exciting. I heard both tracks about 6 times. This is my conclusion.
i think rme adi 2 sound for $1000 is best because i feel like ,just, bigger space sound than mytek , it just like smooth and it makes me relaxing as sound
I have the Mytek Brooklyn dac+. After 18 months of light use, the display stopped to work. Contacted the support service of Mytek they have never replied. My only chance to modify settings Is connecting It to my PC. Bad experience
Mytek at a level above, clearer and energetic bass guitars, more natural vocal harmoics , better stereo, but warmer than RME and i hear it after youtube compression tru windows mixer LOL, i'm shocked!
Ahah... this is the very right comment! How the hell might we hear a difference from audiophile dacs recordered in “some way” and listened in a very lossy stream as youtube, and maybe with iPad speakers??? Only the tester can really tell us about his subjective listening... all the rest is nonsense, in my very HUMBLE opinion... I really DO NOT understand these recorded proofs on youtube, other than looking at the units (fine): give space to your more detailed opinion, sir, this is all I’d rather prefer. Anyhow thumb up for the effort and the one-liner summary :)
@ Gusti Ritzerow What is your opinion on depth and stage on RME? It sounds more natural than MT but I can not distinguish a "spacing" in RME. Also RME has endless possibilities in adjusting frequency responses for not-so-good masterings - any comments? Thanks for a great demo! :)
haven't seen this before...sounds like normal difference between AKM and ESS ;-) therefore i bought the ADI 2 Pro (AKM) a few years ago.. nevertheless both are fantastic and the Mytek is just a cool machine
One thing that confuses me (though I'm happy to be corrected as it may be that I'm easily confused) is RME's warranty. I can't find reference to it on the main website and different countries seem to have different warranty arrangements.. UK seems to be 5 years (which is great and very commendable) but Australia seems to be two years (bummer).. and we additionally get royally screwed with the pricing - with this RRP being $1999! and dealers not willing to go much below $1799 - which is still /several hundred dollars/ more than one can buy one from several places overseas for, including the currency conversion, extra shipping, additional import duties and taxes that would mean paying. How about some love for us down-under? I'm sure Innovative Music Australia would move a considerable number more of these units if the pricing here was less punitive. Surely too, it would be better for us to have local support and not for everyone to be buying their units from overseas? As it stands I can't see how anyone would be buying from the local distribution. On the upside, I guess their support line must be pretty quiet. Just a tip for RME - Australian consumer law will make /not/ providing warranty on a product like this (meaning a DAC that is reasonably expensive - despite good value proposition) out to five years impossible in any case.. so it will effectively cost them nothing to provide it. They may as well look good and do it of their own accord.

Very difficult to tell on UA-cam, but possibly the Mytek sounds a little more punchy, maybe more rythmic and involving on a short listen. The RME sounds comfortable, but perhaps more soft in the bass and not quite as instantly rythmic...
Wow, the Mytek sounds way more harsh over youtube than the RME. The MRE sounds more smooth, better balanced, without the harsh high end. Very good. I just bought the MRE yesterday.
Much of that is room overload. Though it is a GREAT sounding space. I am hearing not much macro dynamics from the RME, like years ago when bitstream dac hit the market for mainstream CD replay in the early 1990's; smooth presentation, with long term easy listen-ability but NO dynamic expression. The Mytek Brooklyn is a bit dry but has explosive dynamics, reminiscent of a bit perfect16 bit ladder dac with good current supply, as in the old Nakamichi OMS series, You pays your dollars and picks your pleasure. - Sandy, the Aging Boston Audiophile
@@sandyshoremann7524 It is difficult to convey these details you mentioned over youtube. FWIW I have found the RME to be absolutely incredible, and I use the loudness and EQ functions to make both my 2.1 system and my two pairs of headphones sound perfect to my ears. I don't feel like it lacks any dynamic punch, but I also don't own a DAC that is higher tier than RME. I am not a purist, I love EQ and tailoring sound to my taste. I even have different EQ presets saved for different music genre! Thinking of buying a second unit now for my system upstairs! Anyways, thanks for the videos!
@@gustiritzerow2978 Hi Gusti, thank you very much for the kind and helpful reply. imhe midrange is a weak point with digital and solid state. Often it sounds hard and flat. I am using presently an old Benchmark dac 1. Actually someone adds tubes in the chain to give more body to the midrange at the expense of adding also some kind of distortion. I have noticed that some cables like the one from Cardas help to give a more prominent midrange, nice effect with voices in particular. I have a pair of 300B Microtwin with RCAs that i want to replace with XLRs. I understand solid core copper cables act in a similar way. However RME is an extremely very well regarded brand in the professional sector. I like a lot their usb interfaces. Kind regards, gino
Not such a big difference. It is a matter of teast but there is no way the mytek can justify a 2 times price of the RME! (notice than the RME inclued a usefull DSP)
Mytek sounds denser, had me questioning if you had a tube in your system. RME sounds relaxed, less density but its still there. Am I hearing the effects of your speakers(pre-amp? room?) or are both DACs on the warmer side of neutral?
Mytek makes good products but the service is very poor, they don't respond to emails (if you need repairs or replacement parts) and if something is broken you can throw the product away.
Very interesting and quality comparison. I choose the RME between these two, however around this price point I think Gustard X26 Pro is the best Dac at the moment. And at 5,000 Euro the Holy May Dac with advanced dual mono R2R ladder and separate dual LPSUs blows every other Dac away up to 35,000 Euro in my view.
Well rme goes lower but it is more analytical wich makes it clearer but brighter sounding. I am not so shure wich is better for long listening sessions, metal music and day to day use. Also there is mytek brooklyn dac + available. Do you have any opinion on this subject?
Good day, you're right the RME is more neutral than the fun mytek. I don't own a brooklyn dac +. The difference is supposed to be small. I wish a healthy New Year 2019. Maybe I'll have a Brooklyn + later

The Mytek sound wider to me, and generally I hear a more detailed stereo field, might be an inpression though. Both sound great!

Could you briefly compare Liberty and RME please?
I own the Brooklyn DAC+ - - From what I can hear in this video is the RME has a bigger - wider soundstage.
Love the thumbnail for this video. I could spend hours sitting there.
RME is more analytical and smooth sound, Mytek is good on bass and center, height is not pleasant and occasionally granular.
As this audio is bass driven.
The Mytek seems more pronounced in the low-end.
1:30 and 3:26 listening the trumpets, seems there is more body-right sound on the mytek, while rme si more on highs
they sound the same on that regard.
Mytek, by miles no question...

I like this album. Different and nicely recorded.
This Is Marla Glen.
great demo....can't go wrong with either one but the RME may have more features that would justify the extra $200 you will pay for the RME
i think rme adi 2 sound for $1000 is best because i feel like ,just, bigger space sound than mytek , it just like smooth and it makes me relaxing as sound
Better than audio-GD DACs? (r2r / or Sabre)
What I am also interested is that how the DAC+ shows 24bit during a normal redbook CD playback? :)
I have the Mytek Brooklyn dac+. After 18 months of light use, the display stopped to work. Contacted the support service of Mytek they have never replied. My only chance to modify settings Is connecting It to my PC. Bad experience
elegant aesthetic all around...
As a mastering professional I prefere the Mytek for the details but the RME is huge too. Whatever the choice it is high class DACs
Mytek at a level above, clearer and energetic bass guitars, more natural vocal harmoics , better stereo, but warmer than RME and i hear it after youtube compression tru windows mixer LOL, i'm shocked!
listened on AD1866 dac with Audeze LCD-24
rme looks bluer, while mytek looks blacker

Gianluca Meardi maybe you are using a mono phone speaker. Buy new iphone for stereo speaker and you can hear a different.
Tuan Duong ahah really true :-D Meanwhile I’ve bought a RME ADI-2 FS and it sounds beautifully! Recommended

Don't adjust then. Throw out songs that don't sound good.

Have you noticed the significant difference between Mytek and Rme headphone amplifiers? What Do you like more?
Thank You.
What settings do you use for rme?
Filter? EQ? Volume?
Have you ever tried +7dbu, 0 and +13dbu, -5 don't know why but it sound different on mine.
I prefer the Mytek as the bass is abit more weighty and they trails off nicely, roll off wise.

I pay €1000 and have a 2-Year Warranty in Germany. In Australia equivalent to €1700?? Puu
You have lovely nature there, plus a Burson audio with amazing DACs.
When I buy stuff and it stops working I stick it in the trash and buy something else. Getting things fixed is something I can’t be bothered with.

Mytek warm bright sound - amazing quality, RME - as usually cold, hermatic, more flat sound
RME sounds far better, convincingly in all regards, smoother, more detailed and controlled, more balanced.

Would you recommend the Rme dac for the price ?
Yes, for about a thousand euros it offers many possibilities.
I wonder if you mean timbre, rather than "temper" (meaning one's propensity, or lack thereof, to get angry)"?
The RME definitely sounds very transparent and detailed! This one has been on my radar lately.

I perceive opposite, RME sounds harsh, mytek produces more realistic vocals. I listened with Koss porta pro headphones by the way.
